  1. Organisations like SISA need an enemy. They started with Branfo*t (quite rightly) and moved on to Rupert. Now, most fans are reasonably happy with things and hope to see steady progress, so SISA don't really have a reason to exist. Unless they can create a bit of conflict, they're out of the limelight.
  2. Totton can be a pain if you work in Southampton. I travel every day from Southampton to the Waterside and the Totton by-pass going into town is often stationary back past the Rushington roundabout. It only needs a small shunt on the Redbridge flyover for everything to grind to a halt. Upper Shirley is the place to live (no riff-raff, please).
  3. D-Day by Anthony Beevor. A balanced, detailed but highly readable account by a serious historian. It really shows how close the whole thing came to failure. Just tried Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco but found it very hard going.
  4. I work for an Italian company and the unions in Italy are very powerful and it's quite difficult to sack people. Unfortunately that means when redundancies are needed the UK is favourite because of our weak labour laws. It also means that the Italian management have to consult extensively with their employees and disputes are usually resolved with a bit of give and take on both sides. European countries with strong unions and labour laws (France, Italy, Germany) are also successful economically. It seems to be only in the UK that there is such a strong "them and us" attitude. Companies who treat their employees well have a motivated workforce. You cannot force people to work hard. If people see that by working hard the company benefits and they share in this, you're more likely to have a happy (and therefore enthusiastic) workforce. Co-operation on both sides is required, not confrontation.
  5. Mrs ecuk268 dropped us off and picked us up from the Marks & Sparks car park. No problems at all. From what I could see, there were loads of buses and it all seemed to be going quite smoothly after the game. The only thing was the concourse was absolutely jammed during the break. It took me about 20 mins just to go for a leak.
  6. I heard that he still has an 80's haircut - a sort of mullet.

    Big Macs

Burger King are more expensive but better quality. I had an Angry Burger last week but, due to the lack of chillies, it was only mildly annoyed.
  8. This whole thread seems a bit fishy to me.
  9. £50 for the Toshiba
  10. One of the Apollo missions left a mirror on the moon which many universities use to measure the precise distance from earth to moon by bouncing a laser beam off it.
  11. I would think that you are entitled to a new machine or a full refund. Have a chat with Trading Standards, they're usually very helpful.
  12. I'm the opposite in that I have to take a tablet first thing in the morning before food (under-active thyroid). It says on the packet that digestive juices can dilute the effectiveness of the drug. Probably, taking them with food gives a slower release into the bloodstream.
  13. Seeing a load of whingeing, diving prima donnas who are so talented that they don't need to cheat.
  14. Journalists never let the truth stand in the way of a good story. The consultation paper proposes 20mph limits near schools and 50 mph on rural roads with a high accident record. Emotive language like "the law will be steamrollered through" really means that it will be voted on democratically like any other law.
  15. MP3MyMP3 will record anything going through your sound card, Will save as wav or mp3.
  16. Slightly off-topic, but we've got an HP LaserJet 4 in the office that we bought in 1994 and it's still going strong
  17. If you get no response, threaten them with Trading Standards or the Small Claims Court. You are entitled to a full refund as the goods are not fit for purpose.
  18. I think that Gillet is a cut above the rest.
  19. Did you know that there is a nuclear bunker (disused) under Wentworth golf course? ecuk268 - Purveyor of useless information to the Nobility and Gentry.
  20. Interesting bit where he says that Souness was supposed to have a group of wealthy Israeli backers to invest in the club. However our wonderful chairman, Mr Askham and his chums decided to go with Rupert. Nothing to do with the money they would make from their shares of course.
  21. Is it still OK to park at the top end of the Marks and Sparks car park?? I've parked there OK for Sunday games.
  22. They were talking to a Lockerbie resident on Radio 4 this morning. He said that they viewed it as an accident as whoever set the bomb didn't do it so the plane would crash on Lockerbie, that was just a side effect. Most Lockerbie people had no problem with him being sent home to die. Many of them thought he was innocent. I wouldn't discount the hand of the CIA in this. In the 80's Reagan was desperate for an excuse to attack Libya. I saw a very interesting documentary on the shooting of PC Yvonne Fletcher which produced evidence that the bullet could not have been fired from the embassy but from another building which had been rented by some secretive american gentlemen.
  23. Got mine from Amazon yesterday. A good read with some amusing anecdotes. He emphasises his love of fast food and his dislike of training when it involved running. Get a copy - you'll enjoy it.
  24. Come on - don't you realise that everyone on here is a top-class football manager with long successful careers? They all know better than AP, especially after the game has ended. It's so obvious that a new manager should instantly transform a team. Look at Lawrie Mac. Oh, he got us relegated in his first season.
