  1. It really started when the clubs stopped sharing the gate money, in the early 80s(?) When the big clubs threatened to break away(I think it was Man U , Liverpool and Arsenal) and make some kind of European super league if they didn't get their way. I felt at the time let them do so, they would have soon come back cap in hand. Now the CL is so important the PL is as some say just the means to qualify.
  2. Cook just does not think out of the box. Listening to Warne you realise what a fantastic cricket mind he has.
  3. that must be a bargain for Sky to get those hundreds of thousands of Pompey fans as extra viewers. 10k, boy doesnt the TV money dwindle the lower you get
  4. the person he put in place was still there though, who was following through ML's wishes. You and many others did not have the same confidence in him of course but whatever you say he delivered. The new lot have not done anything to help the club move on since
  5. FC I absolutely detest being so negative about about he club I have put so much into over the years. ML together with NC gave us a drive that seems to me has been lost with the sad departure of ML. Now I feel we have have his sibling who understandably does not have the same love/desire. The removal of ML choice to make the dream happen started for things to unravel. All IMO of course, KL inheritance I assume is tied up to a degree in the club and perhaps she is not prepared to risk it and so drawing some of it back in. At present we have only lost 3players and so I should perhaps not be so down, but it seems to me we have lost the drive. I felt that losing LS AL was not a major problem but to lose Lovren and MS would be disasterous. If we manage to keep them then my concerns will be wiped away, let's hope this week brings some quality players in rather than out
  6. I would not be confident, considering Fonte has been left on a lead waiting to see if he is to be offered a contract it would be mad not to have had a centre back already signed. IMO if we had tied down a CB already clubs would not be able to hold us to ransome as they will now as we will be cashed up and obviously desperate to sign a centre half. Add to that they will not want to lose such a player 2weeks from the start of the season.
  7. well at this moment in time it looks like KL is perhaps withdrawing some of her investment into the club. (Her prerogative) If it is the case is it sad that they are not being transparent and leading the fans along by saying the money will be reinvested as well as the 35m.
  8. So potentially our CBS are are a choice between Yoshidas, hoos and Fonte (not offered a new contract) I'm sure Arthur is relishing the start of the season.
  9. If I was a top player andSaints were competing with other clubs for my signature, I would think why go there as the club are selling the best players and it looks like a season of struggle. For all the dressing up we are selling and not replacing with as good or better. Read through Reeds quote again and it is holed below the waterline
  10. Our intention is to keep our core players, I assume the core means those we don't have offers on
  11. Spurs are a massive club, we are a mid size club. He is stating a truth. IMO
  12. for me having my hopes raised for the last few years and seeing the club being driven on by NC, gave me a hope and expectation. NC has been removed and it seems to me that we have a mealy mouthed weak leadership follow on from that. i have not been following Saints for over 50years but I have been for over 45 . In that time I was used to failure and disappointment, but the last few years had given me a new confidence. I still can't get my head around how we seem to be holding back getting fresh players in. I hope e club have some aces up their sleeves but we all know what happens if you have to play catch up. The PL is a harsh league and we have a rookie manager (PL terms) and potentially a rookie side.
  13. are you CBFry if not you do a good impersonation
  14. lol
  15. I was a bit uneasy when I read about RK saying that we were not doing much physical stuff but just with the ball. If the club has had all the teams from the youngsters up, playing the same way up to now, the. all of a sudden that has been binned the players are going to pretty confused and unfit.
  16. hes foreign and so must be good.
  17. I like the assertions on here from time to time where fans make lists of players they think we might sign and use that as a figure of spending. I prefer to look at it that we were assured by the club that 35m would be added to money coming in and spent. At present we have the 35m 'war chest' lol and the sales of players in the region of 60 m. We may have spent 17, conveniently any other future buys will be not published. Try and work out how we have spent then. IMO we will buy a couple more players in the 5-7 m range and flood in a few loans and frees and dress them up as major buys. That will allow Reed still to be worshipped as the chosen one, 'I have his gourd, the Holy gourd, it is a sign'
  18. I was wondering if they now get houses on there would Pompey get more money
  19. Fans groups are a joke and mainly just a bunch of people with their own agendas. Committees and the like are a waste of space. I can see egos now waiting for their time in the boardroom asking for better burgers, cheaper beer, cheaper tickets etc. It is a business and so we have no right to expect fans on the board. You only have to look on here at the many different views, how could we expect a fan to be able to appease and represent all those views.
  20. No, but we have to fill our time with something.
  21. If anyone had said 20-30years ago that China would be anyway supportive of Russia you would have not believed it. I do wonder if the 2 have decided to use their combined power to thwart the west longterm. Odd bedfellows
  22. maybe, we did try it once before, that was a success
  23. A measured reply. I dont expect top name signings as it seems the club do not believe in making the last step up. The feeling seems to be that we have got to the glass ceiling and have lowered all expectations. I personally believe Katrina does not have anywhere near the same ambition of her father (her rightful choice) and is clawing back a large chunk of the initial investment, again her prerogative. If this is the case i would rather them be a little more open rather than tell us that we have 35m as well as the funds from player sales, when from where iam it is patently not the case. I hope Iam wrong and the club dumbfound me and buy some real quality (although the WC stars rarely find the same form in club football, after making a reputation there) If we are not looking at those 'stars' then i fail to see why we have yet to purchase more decent professionals who have been taken on by other clubs.
  24. yeah sorry about that. To fit in a post in the middle of being pestered by staff and customers etc can make it hard to put a decent post out. I know I have never put a decent post out
