We are better when forwards cause havoc though the middle because teams are wise to our crosses from near the corners, and find it easy to block, as Burnley did time after time. But a great day fellers. Relentless pressure paid off.

A cheeky pre-match diversion on Guardian online. Poch's best Saints team: "Preamble: The Southampton team news is in, and this is what Mauricio Pochettino has gone for: Forster; Clyne, Van Dijk, Lovren, Shaw; Schneiderlin, Wanyama; Bale, Tadic, Lallana; Mane." I think that Romeu is playing better than Spiderman at present.

We always lose when I watch Saints live on telly

But surely readers' browser configurations are very important. Much as we want to absorb lots of info about Saints, a lot of us are quite busy people. Sometimes I spend loads of time browsing the OS. At other times I have only a few moments to snatch what information I need. It does seem that the designers of the new OS havn't researched how their customers use OS .
-
Great, great, photos, but one thing that irritates is that I have to trawl down before finding what I want to read first. Why can't choices be at the top of the page instead of in tiny .0001 point at the bottom? In that respect the old OS was better. The reader was in control of what he/she wanted to read first.

Er by shooting ourselves in the foot?

Leicester have also had a tough midweek game, so I don't think we need to fear.

Good call

Unfortunately they appear to be going in the other direction

Stings hurt and are distasteful, but how else is the sport to be rid of corruption that is killing the game? We've seen previous enquiries impotent because there has never been hard evidence.
-
Whatever happened to the days when sportspeople were honourable amateurs? Do we regret that age long gone?
-
The opposition was terrible, like the media always say when we beat them.

Pretty good Tony (from The Guardian's match report) "84 min Tony Cowards has had a bash at resolving the Don’t You Want Me debacle, and here it is! “You were playing for the Palace at Selhurst Park When we bought you We picked you out, shook you up and paid a million pounds, Turned you into someone new Now six years later on you’ve got the ball at your feet, Success has been so easy for you But don’t forget it’s Saints who put you where you are now And we can put you back down too Jose, Jose Font-ay You know we can’t believe it when you make defending easy Jose, Jose Font-ay You know we don’t believe it when they say that we don’t need you It’s always great to find You’re captaining the side We’d better win again or we will all be sorry Jose Font-ay baby Jose Font-ay, oooh Jose Font-ay, baby Jose Font-ay, oooh.” I’m sure we can improve it yet further by sneaking in a rhyme involving Pardoo.

Hiding under the sheets?

So without breaking sweat we could be 7th next weekend, and we were 18th last week. And we miss 90% of chances to score.
-
on Sham's site you mean?
-
...and only squander 93.05% of them. West Ham must be trembling in their boots.
-
That doesn't mean too much though in this volatile early part of the season. Sham are hurting and our frontmen without Austin, who is likely not to start, have only scored three goals between them in five games. No pressure fellers, just blast them in. One out of Tadic, Schlong and Redmond to be motm. A nail-biting 2-1

That hammer looks like it isn't squarely on target. But so long as it does it's job...

An intersting midfield battle predicted between Clasie and Payet here: "If Cedric Soares struggles to cut off the inside route then Jordy Clasie - scurrying across from the middle - will need to be ready to close him down. Clasie has not always found it easy in England, but he is a very strong tackler and should be able to out-muscle Payet on Sunday. Theirs is the most important head-to-head of the game, and Payet will need Manuel Lanzini's movement to drag Clasie away from the left-centre zone if Payet is to win the battle." I doubt if Austin will be on till late in the game, if we are not on target, and Antonio's heading is a concern, otherwise I think it will be a low scoring 1-0 win to Saints. Schlong and Redmond need to convert their chances tomorrow.

Jake's splendid play against Palace is a reminder that it does take time for young players to develop their skills, and it is credit to the academy that they are doing that. So many on here are impatient to see instant success. It doesn't happen like that.
-
Could the undoubted charisma of Dodd and Williams (and those before them) have been a reason for the academy attracting so many high quality youngsters at the time?
-
Apparently we had over shots on 50% on target last night, which may not seem a lot but it was a heck of a lot better than in previous games. So they are heading in the right direction. All we need to do is play Hesketh more often.

Wind back 70 years, will we be singing 'Charlie is our darling' again. How does the song go?
