offix Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Now that Oldknow is back, it would be interesting to know how his relationship was with Crouch during AO's first stint with us. Could Crouch be part of the new team, or was their relationship such that hell would have to freeze over? Do any of the ITK's know?
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Pretty sure Oldknow was on the board of Directors that veto'd all of the footballing directors off the board. I.e Crouch, Lawrie etc. Probably wrong though

offix Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Dreadful, in a nutshell! That's a shame. I really appreciate what Crouch has done for the club, in terms of putting in his own money. It would be nice if he could somehow have a roll in the new setup.

It would be nice if he could somehow have a roll in the new setup. I think we can respect and thanks to Leon for helping to keep the club afloat and pay the wages of staff. But we must move on and welcome the new era and new staff in their roles. Lowe, Wilde, Crouch - we don't need to mention their names in capacity with the football club; we've moved on. I assume though Crouch will be at matches as a fan and why not!

once_bitterne Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I really don't know what the obsession is with the past. Crouch was part of the decline that saw us end up where we are now so I wouldn't want him within a million miles of the boardroom. If he did pay the 500k exclusivity money that enabled the wages to be paid then fair play to him and tbh maybe ML should be looking to refund him this money now that he owns the club. However he shouldn't be given a place on the board. we've been there and it didn't work out. Crouch's role in the new set up should just be one of a fan and, if he fancies it, him and LM getting a box from which to watch the games.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 What makes any of you think Crouch WANTS a place anywhere near the Boardroom? Leave it alone - it's really not worth it getting your pants in a twist over....move on...nothing to see here.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 During the euphoria of the new takeover, I think we should remember the one person who kept the club going and always acted in the interests of the club. When the Ted Bates statue turned into a debacle, it was Leon Crouch that reached into his pocket and sorted it out. During the dark days of administration it was Leon that recognized just how seriously our plight was and again dipped into his pocket and rallied the troops. Leon may have a reputation as a loose cannon in his dealings with the media but that is because he always cared. His company's seemed to be one of our loyal sponsors when we were spiralling downwards. As we enter a new and exciting phase in the history of Saints, we should still acknowledge the role of Leon Crouch in keeping our club afloat. dubai_phil Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 new era move on goodbye to anyone associated with the collective failures of the past. Oldnow involvement -w ell fine of course somebody had to help the acquisition team, and needs to know what is going on. He was an officer not someone who made critical errors Oh and anyone who thinks Crouch didn't have a few clauses attached to his loan does a "respected businessman" a major disservice Anyone associated with our past should be offered a spot in an ex-Directors box, let them all come and pay for their tickets, Leon & Lawrie probably happiest in their box, Rupert, Andrew, Hone, Dullbloke, Corbett, Richards, Askham etc in an ex directors box (pref in the Northam). This is a NEW era - our past should be about people who EXCELLED on the FOOTBALL PITCH. End of

Mr Nice Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Oldknow was part of the problem that saw debts rise. He and his chums spent money the club did not have., then took a ransom to leave.
