John B Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 some stupid comments on there! A bit like any meassageboard though eh? But overall I think the comments were pretty good towards us. They may also have got more fans to the game if it had been played on a Saturday

John B Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 Nice to be recognised as a bigger club, certainly. I have never really understood how a City of Bristol's size does not have a Premiership club . I went there once when they were in Div 1 with the Saints but the game was stopped because of snow

ericb Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 Southampton are a massive club, we would only get near that against Liverpool and Man U. First and last time i've ever heard that!
Psycrow Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 I have never really understood how a City of Bristol's size does not have a Premiership club . Its because they have 2 clubs as far as I can see. My brother lived there for years, I've been around 15 times and the general impression is that if, somehow, City and Rovers could merge, the team would be big enough for the prem considering the support base they'd have

I don't know DD. I'm not from the UK so wouldn't know that kind of thing off the to of my head. Miltonaggro Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 Bristol has always been a big rugby city and a large number of the population play and follow rugby union (lots of local rivalry with Bath and cross border raiding into Wales); so that and two football clubs thins out the support... St_Tel49 Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 Don't know where it stacks up in the City League, but I do know it's twice the size of Southampton. IS it? - I lived there for a couple of years a long time ago and my impression was that it was of a similar size to Southampton. I have never looked at the population figures though. Polaroid Saint Posted 19 July, 2009 Share Posted 19 July, 2009 (edited) 8th biggest in England, 10th in UK http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/population/cities.htm Although Wiki says different http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_towns_and_cities_in_England_by_population Wolfram tells me Bristol has a polution of 430713, with the greater metropoliton area having a population of 704639. Southampton comes in at just 246201. And has no surrounding metro area. so quite a bigger then PS I'd trust Wolfram over and above wiki (for numerical info like this anyway - they often take old figures are guestimate a current 'projection' figure) and the woodlands-junior info (although correct and brilliant - I love the WJ website, it has legendary status in primary schools maths and it departments...) is from the 2001 census. hope this helps Edited 19 July, 2009 by Polaroid Saint

EastleighSoulBoy Posted 20 July, 2009 Share Posted 20 July, 2009 Both Eastleigh and Totton count as "Greater Southampton" If so then, according to the 2001 census, Eastleigh Borough's Population would swell that 'Greater Southampton Area' by 116,169. Polaroid Saint Posted 21 July, 2009 Share Posted 21 July, 2009 Both Eastleigh and Totton count as "Greater Southampton" Sorry to revive a dying fred for a negative barely saints related comment, but; No. there is no such thing as 'greater southampton'. sure, we are great, but the city is a city and the surrounding towns are their own. Their not even close enough or big enough to be regarded a conorbation (sp ??).
