Could be the number of staff they had & crowd control. Only "X" staff so maximum if 11,000 allowed??

Tractor_Saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 (edited) no way was there only 11000 both stands nearly full walked by the ticket office ten mins before kickoff the que was manic I posted in another thread at HT that I thought it was around 10k in the stadium and I still stick with that (least of all that Saints FC would have to fraudulantly enter the money into the books if they had sold 16k tickets but only put 10k down officially). If SMS is 32,800 seater stadium then I'd guess Itchen would be around 8k and Kingsland around 8k. Kingsland was pretty full I'd guess from where I was sitting but Itchen still had spaces as can be seen in the below pic during the game... It did fill up a little more but there were still considerable gaps. Thinking about it, anyone got a pic of Kingsland to see if it was completely full or if it too had gaps? Stadiums aren't square mate. I'd assume it would be more like 10k on the Itchen and Kingsland, 6k on the Northam and Chapel.
Griffo Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 The Northam holds 6,400, as does the Chapel.
pfc123 Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Doesn't this constitute fraud - thats a pretty heavy accusation to lay at the clubs doorstep!? IF, as has been alleged, you've lied about the attendance you're in the poo on three counts- if you're only going to pay the VAT on 11k when there were 16k there, it's fraud. Secondly the insurance company that provides your public liability insurance will be very interested to know that you've allegedly only had enough stewards in for an attendance of 11k, not 16. Thirdly, the HSE & the police will want to know why you've not provided enough stewarding for a public event on safety and public order grounds. Ooops........ Christ I'm going to throw that degree certificate away now. It's not square but jotting down some rough calcs: 6,400 in Chapel 6,400 in Northam Leaves 20,000. I'd guess each 'corner' (most of the time they are closed) would roughly hold 1,000 leaving 8k in Kingsland and 8k in Itchen. So not such a stupid statement was it? Well, I should think the chances of the VAT man talking to the Health and Safety exec is quite slim so we can tell the VAT lot how much money we took and the H&S lot how many people were in the ground. Simples, as people like to say on here.
The9 Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 From the pic, all of the expensive/exec etc. seats in the Itchen were empty, and that's about 1/3 of that stand, so say about 5000 in there, plus the Chapel/Itchen corner. That still leaves only 5000-ish being in the Kingsland, and that was far more full than the Itchen as there aren't any "Exec" seats, dugouts, comps for WAGs etc. Plus I was looking right at it... Admittedly there may have been the odd seat here and there which being red wasn't easy to see, but I've got a pic of the Kingsland on my mobile and it's basically full up to the Chapel corner. Still doesn't add up.

How would the club destroy the paper/electronic trail from the ticket sales...and the insurer if it had agreed to two stands only being opened would have insisted that they were adequately stewarded i.e. enough stewards to cater for fully occupied stands - so that doesn't equate either

Sounds more like an employee scam then to me which would be embezzlement and an employee fidelity issue rather than deliberate fraud by the company - phew (in a manner of speaking). Didn't this used to happen regularly in the old days down at the Dell with swathes of away supporters being let in at the Milton end and then having to be escorted down to the Archers Road by the local polis? Colinjb Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Maybe attendances need to be declared from sales by kick off, in which case it could be 100% correct. But due to the high footfall it went over a 'bit.'
NickG Posted 14 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 August, 2009 11,000 for midweek game between 3rd and 4th division sides, not quite the crowd draw for the first premiership home game of the season - against your nearest rivals in premiership - no wonder skates have sold 17,000 tickets for Saturday! Dodgy gate revenue tax scams were all the rage in Division Three in the early 1980s as well, I can recall my dad telling me Newport County were underestimating the attendance by a few thousand every home game for VAT reasons when I asked him why the crowd looked much bigger than the number in the paper too. Not a great surprise that they went bankrupt...
hackedoff Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 I sat in the Kingsland which seemed full but according to my son ( in Itchen ) there were still gaps.If you added the away supporters to the Itchen it would at best still be only 2/3 full. With both ends now empty and the side stands ( at 8k capacity ) say Kingland 3/4 and Itchen 2/3, 11k total was about right IMO.
