for_heaven's_Saint Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 Just read that Paul Ince has a touchline ban for 2 games, which will include the game against us at St Mary's. Got me thinking, do you think these bans have much of an effect on the team during the game? i.e how much influence can/does the manager have from the touchline? Most prefer to give instruction from the stands in any case. I think if the authorities want to punish managers who abuse touchline officials and referees properly, they should dish out matchday bans where the manager is unable to be involved with the team at all and that includes travelling to the match. SFC Forever Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 I agree. Though the punishment can make the players play with more determination.
RonManager Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 They should make him stand at the back of the Itchen - Block 4.
Stepgar Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 i think these stupid bans and fines are a waste of time. They don't work fact! If you want to punish a team dock points - simples. This way you would stamp all the bickering and cheating etc in one easy swoop. Clubs then can fine an individual player if they wish, thats fine. But I think it would solve so many of these stupid time consuming disriputes etc.

I wander if he waits until he gets out the tunnel to put on the top half of his suit or tracksuit on like he used to do with his shirt?!
70's Mike Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 Interesting topic. I cannot think of one manager in this division who has watched the game from the stands this season.
benjii Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 Actually, are there that many League One grounds that necessarily afford one a better view from the stand than the dug-out!?

That's a point actually and furthermore, in some league one grounds, sitting in the stand is surely not much further away than being in the dugout. Do the match officials have the power to stop the manager shouting from the stand? i doubt it.

benjii Posted 14 October, 2009 Share Posted 14 October, 2009 And make sure he stays away from St Will if he does insist on shouting instructions.
