Pat from Poole Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 Not sure if this should be in The Lounge (apologies if so), but does anybody know if the Maple Leaff on the Polygon is still going? I've heard rumours of them being shut recently. Big shame if Paul Singh et al aren't still open for business. Has been a cracking pre-match and post-match venue for a few bevvies over the years. Would be grateful if anybody knows. Cheers.
fromdayone Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 I am a neighbour to one of the owners, and he told me it was being refurbed and would re-open when completed. Dont know time scale though.

The Cat Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 Used to love it in there, especially when they brought out plates loaded with free samosas. Mmmm.

View From The Top Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 I used to use that as my pre-match wtering hole up until leaving The Dell for SMS. Was a cracking wee place.
Pat from Poole Posted 14 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 November, 2009 I used to use that as my pre-match wtering hole up until leaving The Dell for SMS. Was a cracking wee place. They did do minibuses to SMS for the first couple of years afrer moving to SMS, which was a fairly hair-raising experience with Sukhi at the wheel. Unfortunately Sukhi ended up losing his licence, which wouldn't have been a complete surprise to the Leaff regulars. I've been going in there for home games for about 10 years, there are very few places where you will get a more hospitable welcome. Attending a SISA meeting led me to the place, I thought it was the best-kept secret in Southampton. Really hope they'll be open again soon. CLOTH EARS Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 I remember the Maple Leaf very well, I had my pre match drink in there for the last two seasons at The Dell, reasonably priced beer too if I remember. I also had my wedding reception in the back hall where SISA used to hold their meetings.
Edward Tattsyrup Posted 14 November, 2009 Share Posted 14 November, 2009 Remember being in there before the Villa game just after our move to St Mary's. I think it was football focus who interviewed a couple of the Sisa guys & they asked us to play pool in the background.

Pat from Poole Posted 14 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 November, 2009 One of my favourite memories from the Leaff was from an evening League Cup game against Liverpool at the Dell (late 90's). We went there for a pre-match pint or two, and noticed some kind of freshers bash was happening in the other bar (for Southampton Institute???). We went back to the Leaff after aeeing Saints win and there was a lad with his face in the grass outside completely and utterly bladdered. Can remember Paul Singh opening the bar for us in his dressing gown as well. The man is a legend.
Master Bates Posted 15 November, 2009 Share Posted 15 November, 2009 Still open, however I recommend you get there before the bouncer gets on the door. I know the bouncer on the door, he can't read peoples ID without his glasses, which he never wears, and he charges people to get in!
errol_slymm Posted 15 November, 2009 Share Posted 15 November, 2009 Paul stuck about 8 of us in his car one time and drove us to SMS after we'd decided to have "another quick pint". Got pulled by the cops for overloading and fined 60 quid. Refused to take a penny from any of us. Top bloke.
