Dog Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I have BT Vision now for 7 months after cancelling SKY and up until now have been very happy with it. Today however I seem to have lost all but 31 channels. I rang them up and they are now telling me I need a digital arial installed on the house at a cost of £150. Up until today my BT Vision has worked perfectly on my standard arial which has been up there on the roof for 10 years, what should I do? Surely I don't need to fit a new arial to make it work, considering it has worked great for the last 7 months.
Colinjb Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I never had a digital arial in the first place, thus rendering the digital box they sent me in return for resigning to a contract I had no intention of straying away from anyway totally useless in my area. If anyone wants this piece of junk PM me.

Ash Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I have no idea of the technical reasons behind the fault, but if I was a betting man I would lay a lot of money on it being because BT are utter, utter bastards.
Micky Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 Actually, contrary to popular belief I don't think there is such a thing as a 'digital' aerial. Yes aerials have been upgraded, but I have the same aerial on my house that has been there for the last 10 years and it recieves all the available digital channels. It's all very confusing - but perhaps you can get some information and answers here: http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/how_do_i_switch/your_aerial
Huffton Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 BT are a bunch of robbing feckwits. Slightly unrelated, but we moved house recently. Before we moved I phoned BT to ask about getting my number put on the new address and keeping my broadband. 'Yes SIr, that will be £40 a month, plus you need a new line installed as there isn't one at the new property, that will be £120'!! Phoned Virgin ' Yes Sir, we will do phone, broadband and tv for £30 and its free to have it installed' Slight no-brainer, and to cap it all what is monted on the wall in the hallway? Yep, a BT phone socket... Dicks.

bridge too far Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I remember hearing on the BBC in the past day or so that there's no such thing as a digital aerial and that conventional ones work just fine. In fact, there are a lot of people being conned into buying 'digital' aerials when there's no need.
OVER THE HILL Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 I have had BT Vision for about 2 years and think it's superb! Have you tried the settings option and rescanning for channels? My aerial is in the loft and works fine.
JackFrost Posted 3 December, 2009 Share Posted 3 December, 2009 With the recent weather I'd check it hasn't been blown or knocked and isn't pointing in a different direction to usual. Try a rescan as suggested above, if that doesn't work then if they've told you all of a sudden you need a new aerial then tell them that they must have made some change their end for you to need one. If they say they haven't their being untruthful either way. Also check with neighbours to see if they've had any problems, my digital signal got completely wiped out a few months ago and after a short investigation I discovered it had happened to everyone in the street. Was solved soon after BT went downhill years ago. Every other person I know has a nightmare with them.

Actually there is, but if your in an area with a good signal then an ordinary aerial will suffice, otherwise you will need a wideband high gains aerial that will have two reflectors and more antenna than a normal one. Dog Posted 4 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 4 December, 2009 Told BT to stick their Vision up there logflume, back with SKY now at double the price.
Red Alert Posted 4 December, 2009 Share Posted 4 December, 2009 I remember hearing on the BBC in the past day or so that there's no such thing as a digital aerial and that conventional ones work just fine. In fact, there are a lot of people being conned into buying 'digital' aerials when there's no need. This was on the ONE SHOW, think that guy Dominic Littlewood(?) did a piece on how they try to convince people they need a new arial when in fact there is no difference.
