lol, mods leave this on here please.. Had my suspicions about old johnny boy for a while now, some things he says dont add up for a fan.. Going back to saying alan ball favourite player of all time on the old maty thread, (slating him all the way home) to recently saying paine. with this bookcase avatar to now saying he is also a bookseller and in regular contact with w******d... Could be wrong but even if there is a 1% possibility of this being true, the slyness and cheek to come on to Our forum.. not on! thoughts?

He does seem retarded and says a lot of anti-saints things, kill him.

Probably not happy clappy these days I agree and not really happy about the expectations and money in Football today

Also dont believe all the Hype/PR that comes out of SFC

Results and performances are the things that count not five year plans.

Bring plenty of money then. They charged me £3.70 for a pint of Heineken in there the other night, bloody thieving rob-dogs.

Are you on about the Cowherds, or the Speedway hotel - as my old man called it. Going off on a tangent can anyone confirm whether the Cowherds was indeed called the Speedway Hotel and where was the Southamptons speedway track? I know my old man was a big speedway fan in his day but never really talked to him about it.

JB's views can be summed up as follows.....

pessimism.jpg

Just not optimistic as you perhaps

At the moment I just feel that the team is missing something probably players with class that can alter a game though being in League 1 I maybe deluding myself.

I dont think we are doing badly but getting back to the Premiership in four and a half years seems very remote and will take hard work not just buying in players

I saw somebody suggesting that after the Norwich game we will be unbeaten to the end of the season although I would like it to happen from experince things go wrong and matches are not won like Brentford in the week.

So my expectations are a great deal lower than most posters on the Forum which may give rise to your view .

The Cowherds is on the Avenue I thought

Cant remember a Pub near the Stadium as I always went to the Cowherds when watching Cricket at Northlands Avenue

Thank you...Footage brought back great memories..

Strange, like modern days peeps selling out for a few quid ...Development of the old speedway track.....

Barry Briggs ..great rider Mr speedway for us for a while and good old Bjorn Knuttson (excuse spelling) We had a fair few top riders then...

Saints football and speedway and With Haller, Kimber and crowd down the swimming pool....Southampton was quite an area for sport...

If only we could have had Uncle Rupert in those days..Trojans Hockey would have been world class:D

I only went a handful of times in the fifties, from memory it adjoined the old county ground and was owned by Charles Knott who was a director of Saints. His son, also Charles Knott played for Hampshire CCC as a 'Gentleman' ie an amateur. Not sure which of them sold it for developement. This may be incorrect, my memory may be playing tricks and I apologise in advance if not factual.

Yes you are of course correct

I did not realise there were two Charlie Knotts as the cricketer one you mention would have been in the fifties when the stadium was sold.

I think he was the Rod Bransgrove of his day a very approachable man who held a high position with Hampshire CCC

The speedway backed on to the County ground and was then built on by Top Rank, You could still see part of the track at the back of the Top rank.
