Games in hand....

inevitably, with all those cup games etc, we have had a game or two in hand on others but the Wycombe game on Tuesday will be our 17th away game (and only 6 left), whereas we have to date only played 13 games at home....If we have any chance of a late challenge for a play-off place it should stand us in good stead to have those 4 extra games at home.

Exactly. We have now played 5 league games this year of which 4 were away and we got points in all of them.

In total this year we have played 10 games and we have won 6 of them, drew 3 of them and of course lost 1. Most teams would kill for that kind of form.

Yeah most of the cup tie postponements were home games. Meaning that we won't have mid week travel issues with our games in hand. Another bonus, or non negative depending if you are a glass half full or half empty type.

with the top half winning today (bar Leeds and Norwich) the benefit of this win won't be felt until after the mid week game or even next Saturday. There is a long way to go and it will be a matter of "one game at a time".

Having really thought we'd blown the playoffs after the Exeter game I'm not so sure now.

I thought that by now the others would be out of sight yet after that brilliant result yesterday we are still just about within striking distance.

The 2 teams that I believe we really need to overhaul are Huddersfield and Millwall (maybe also Swindon).

From what I've seen I think we will overhaul MK Dons, Walsall, Bristol Rovers and Brentford.

Huddersfield's next 3 games are Tranmere (a), Leeds (h) and Saints (a).

Being as Huddersfield are distinctly average on the road I can see them getting 2 draws and losing to us. That would put them on 56 points and 34 games.

Millwall have to play MK Dons (a), Hartlepool (h) and Walsall (a). I reckon they could get 4/5 points which would put them on 56/57 points and 34 games.

If we can get 3 straight wins against Wycombe(a), Walsall (h) and Huddersfield (h) we'd be on 46 points and have 2 games in hand.

Win those and we'd be within 4/5 points of Huddersfield\Millwall - breathing down their necks.

Maybe the playoffs aren't as far away as I think?

Can we or will we?

Can get 51

imo we will get 40

Another 40 points seems reasonable. 10 games at home should deliver 25 points. 7 games away should deliver 15 points. 77 points at the end of the season. I'm not sure if that will be enough for 6th place given that Huddersfield in 6th now have already got 54 points. They've got 54 points from 31 games so if they continue to perform at the same level should end up with 80 points. We'll have to beat them at SMS and probably hope that we can get something like 43 points from the remaining matches if we are going to omake the play-offs.

I reckon 38 points we'll get, barring a massive **** up. Although I have been a "Saints fan" in those predictions...

Well, one game at a time and all that, but with only 13 home games played so far...and ....still 10 to go,

that's a possible 30 points........PLUS whatever we can get from the away fixtures .

Difficult to guess what the 6th placed team will get but ..a massive loss of form from the 4th, 5th and 6th clubs would help :D

I still think the playoffs will be just out of reach this season, but would be delighted for the team to prove me wrong on that!

I have to agree with you would be ace if we did pull it off but I just can't see it.

However it ends up we have been treated to a brilliant season and next year with no points deduction I would expect us to go up

That's my take on it to. I have enjoyed this season so much already promotion or not. If we win the JPT I'll be really happy with this season. Also part of me would like to go up next season as run away division winners with a record points total rather than sneak in through the backdoor at the last second this year. Although going straight back up this year would be a big achievement all things considered.

has any team ever been promoted after starting the season with a points deduction? I know Leeds made it to the play-offs after their -15 deduction, which was a fantastic achievement, but they did not get promoted. if we were able to and no-one hase done it before that would be a great record to have.
