doddisalegend Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Now he's got a few games under his belt what do people think of our new rightback? I like him looks cool and calm on the ball, knows what he's about. Played well yesterday I thought. All though typically after I said that to my son yesterday he put in a couple of shocking passes. All in all though I think it's nice to have a good solid right back in the right back postion.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Good in defence but too slow to provide any kind of attacking treat. The right winger in front of him can charge forward safe in the knowledge someone will be behind him but he is not going to overlap too much. I think he will make a better holding midfielder. S-Clarke Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Decent enough, but i find him slow and against real pace i think he could really struggle. Otsemebor wasn't great, but he offered us that pace to recover on the break. Our defence is very very slow now, in fact the team is. We've lost all the pace we had last year. The question is do you want your backs defending or attacking? for me first job should be defence.
simondo Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 i think he is a good player, and put in 2 of the best early crosses of the game. jadia had a shocker though, again - in fact i don't think that left corner of defence is operating right. harding likes to get forward too much and leave jadia exposed. i'm all for going forward but someone needs to drop in to the LB position as jadia can't cope. this team management is easy from the stand ain't it!!! haha
Saint Fan CaM Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Yep, overall I think he had a great day. His oppo on their left wing was taller than him (and their goalie launched many kicks that way in the 1st half), but Butterfield had him in his pocket pretty much all game in the air. It was only when they started playing the ball on the deck that we started to look a bit wobbly.
eastleighhalo Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Personally i was very disapointed in him .. time and time again he never made life difficult enough for the wide man to send a cross in//was standing too far off his man making it easy for him to deliver..,. needs to get much closer to deny the oppprtunity to cross the ball . To be fair tho if those covering behind him werent giving him the information that "cover was on" he would naturally stand off .
Andy_Porter Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 A fantastic signing, will be interesting to see how he does when Richardson comes in at right back and Butterfield gets to play a few more games. Might be worth a try alongside Schneiderlin in the middle.
paulwantsapint Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Butterfield is a Telfer/Makin style player at rb never going to win mom but unlikely to be worst player & similar to Telfer/Makin needs an attacking rm
barney Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Decent crosser of the ball but lack of pace is a bit of a worry for me.

I also thought there were a few times when he stood off the winger too much and gave them the time to measure their cross.
Rasiak-9- Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 I really like him, lots of effort and hard work and a decent tackler - super delivery from deep as well - at League 1 he's a good, good player.
daveygwyatt Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 i thought he was poor yesterday. did not see him against plymouth or bournemouth as i was on holiday, but did not rate him at all.
sfc4prem Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Much improved on Otsemobor. Very clever player and makes up for lack of pace and height by being positionally superior. Got a good cross on him too. Pleased to have him, but yet to see Richardson play, and I presume he will be first choice.
Deanovski Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 i really rate him but my dad calls him an "almost guy" and that he almost delivers a good ball, almost puts the tackle in etc...flatters to deceive.
musesaint Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Great addition to the team ....but I get the impression he's going to be another one of those players who a few on this forum will irrationally love to hate ...and hate ...and hate etc
ottery st mary Posted 22 August, 2010 Share Posted 22 August, 2010 Good player with obvious top experience..Will have many more good games than bad. A very good addition to the squad in that he plays in several positions. As with the side he will improve no end over the next few games and will play a very big part in our promotion this year..
