Shearer on MoTD2

Legod Third Coming

In reviewing Torres performance Shearer has just summed up OUR entire problem so far this season.

We are NOT getting the ball forward to our striker(s) from midfield with the strikers running on towards goal. It looks so simple when Alan talks it through.

I hope our players were watching...

Alan's not taking into account that Lambert is better than Torres;)

Thought exactly the same thing, too many sideways passes. Need the CMs to come and collect the ball, turn and pass forwards. Also Lawrenson talking about Manure's wingers- we need players stuck out on the line, which seemed to be the thinking behind the double substitution on Saturday.

Can't believe they didn't mention MLT when talking about players who could play while walking though!

That's because he falls into the 'standing still' category!!

Watch Arsenal or Chelsea - two teams that attack beautifully and make it look so easy. The key to their game is movement. Movement off the ball and on it. We lack either and in the absence of Lallana we also lack a midfield able to thread balls through to them.

We've gone for CF's who can hold the ball up rather than players with movement. Served us quite well last season but then we had Papa to provide movement off the bench. This season it looks as though other teams have seen how to counter our style.

IMO in order to go up this year we need other options in attack - a tricky CF with clever movement and a bit of pace and a CM who can actually thread a ball through and unlock defences.

Seems everyone knows what we want - problem is getting it!

We're on freebies and loan transfers only at the moment and we have to find someone who wants to come to the club. Top that according to some posters we have Stalin running the club (personally I doubt it) so it has to get by his 'decision'.

I'm not sure all these square pegs for square holes are out there....

here's the list of freebies

Never heard of most of them looking at the stats for some of them there mostly over the hill or failed scholars. I think hoping were going to bring in loads of quaility players as loans and freebies is pie the sky. I'll be far more impressed if Nigel can get the players we already have playing well again. We know the players can play well they proved it last season. We just need someone to get the players believing in themselves again.

Just how does John Motson still pass as a comentator ? :shakey:

My opinion too. He went all patronising and was talking about Blackpool after they had conceeded early goals like he would do if he was talking to a baby, as though using his normal voice and tone would upset the blackpool fans or something.

I also like how it takes 5 replays of an incident before he notes any deflections though, and then the surprise he expresses when he suddenly realises! Just retire already!

I've just finished his autobiography - strange fella. But worth a read.

As for MLT - can you believe all those goals he set up for Shearer and he doesn't bloody mention him.

MLT was our Berbatov and no mistake - except he didn't move as much....

Surely this is yet another case of Shearer stating the bleeding obvious? The man is a complete retard, how he's managed to pass himself off as a pundit for so long and WHY some people wanted him to be our manager is beyond me. He's a tool, and he seems to get by (along with many others on the MOTD team) on a bit of matey banter and NEVER disagreeing with each other.

Call me old fashioned but I want genuine insight from my pundits, I want people to point out stuff I hadn't noticed, not tell me that 'defenders need to track their man' or 'the midfielders need to pass the ball the ball to the forwards' FFS

And whilst on the topic of stating the bloody obvious ....(and just for old times sake ;)) it's turned out nice and sunny in Dubai again today :smug:

I'm delighted for you Eric me old mate ;) it's quite nice in sunny Winchester at the mo and I'm working from home so I might adjourn to the garden with my laptop.... It might not be as hot but I'm guessing it's a lot less dusty as well!

I think you're missing the point - we don't have the players to do that, we score almost all of our goals by getting the ball wide and then turning defences. This season we've sodded about with it for so long before doing that that we're crossing to organised defences, and they are dealing with that easily.

Ideally we'd be attacking from wide AND through the middle, but it wasn't a problem last season when we weren't going through the middle much either, but were attacking quickly and efficiently rather than slowly building up.
