online ticket sales

The online sales site is particularly poor. I would have thought this was something they would have corrected quite early on to maximise sales... I guess they don't want to spend money on something that is already bringing money in. Whether we get the actual seat we want is of no importance to the club I guess...

plus the system is rather basic. Why cannot we purchase specific seats rather than only being able to specify a block?

I complaned bitterly to the ticket office on Saturday and was told " this is the system in use at every league club so basically like it ot lump it.

I try to get the same seat in upper block 35 every game. When I last went online to book a ticket it only kept giving me the option of one of two unwanted seats. I gave up in disgust and rang the ticket line. Bingo the seat I wanted WAS available so I took it.

Mentioned this to the booking clerk who gave me a derisory look and dismissed me.

I wrote to David Luker last year but it was replyless.

Have sent this email

FAO Mr Cortese

Dear Sir,

Could you please advise whether it is your intention to modernise and update the current archaic and user unfriendly online booking system.

I have several complaints about the system as follows :

a) I cannot select a particular seat to discover it's availability, many available seats are never offered online.

Away seats are a total lottery you get what you are given, no choice next ticket off the pile.

b) I cannot view the playing area from a nominated seat (can be done at FC Basel).

c) Unless I buy a ticket within 5 minutes the holding reservation lapses.

d) Cannot the tranches of tickets for away games available online with full seat details.

e) As successive tranches are released and sold the next tranche for sale can be added.

f) If every league ground uses the same system then TOTAL COST divided by 72 would be minimal for each club.

g) Southampton FC could lead the way forward in coordinating the introduction a decent universal system.

Will see what happens.

Funnily enough I used to use online all the time to book tickets, I haven't been on there once since they started charging £3 to use it. "Coincidentally" I haven't been to an away game yet this season for the first time in at least 10 years either, and I went to getting on for half of them last season.

I could probably extend this to getting out of the habit of going altogether if getting a Season Ticket proves as financially difficult to fund next season as well, which may well result in a noticeable blip in replica kit sales... it's the thin end of the wedge.

I also never use the online system anymore, and think long and hard about going to away games. I guess though that the lost sales are more than outweighed by the income from the ticket tax. Shame that the club might be losing one or two fans because of this. Still what do they care, income will have gone up.

While we are all having a good moan I can't believe the club are still running with the completely naff, generic 'OS'.

Are we contractually obliged via the FL to subscribe to this pile of junk?

I see that most other clubs (all other clubs?) in our league have something similar; I have just been on Huddersfield's and it is equally: confusing, out-of-date, cluttered, illogical, full of in-your-face adverts etc etc.

Surely it wouldn't take very much for a club of Saints stature and means to produce a comprehensive, integrated, online system that delivered a decent web site and ticketing system?

The fact that they haven't improved either so far says to me that the club don't much care for their supporters/customers, or that they are doing so well that they can afford to turn away potential visitors to their website (I only ever click on it for ticket details) and potential ticket sales (the same 'fee' for online booking and for phoning the ticket office is a joke - there is nil incentive to use the online service as it stands).

Saints v Brighton, top of Division 3, 26k

Leicester v Forest, top end of Championship, 23k

Saints fans deserve better!

Economies of scale, its got to be cheaper to have someone else run the website for a fixed fee when they're already doing the same for loads of others than it is to design, configure, test, administer availability and update content for your own bespoke site. For a start practically every article can be used twice with the "shared" set up, on the home and away club's sites.

Also, I'm pretty sure our ticketing solution is independent of the main content and run by a different company, just like a lot of the online club shops are separate entities despite the same core web design.

Can't disagree that I preferred the standalone Saints website over the generic one, which was a legacy of our skint seasons at the bottom of the Championship - and the new online mobile version that you get directed to now on a mobile browser is almost completely useless as well.

Even with the parameters of the fixed design it could be made to work a lot better as well - ticket news / purchasing is scattered all over the site, the search is utter crud and it's nigh-on impossible to view Match Galleries on a mobile browser too.

Found out the other day that my mate is now the manager of the support arm of the Perform group so dont worry, I took my opportunity to relay back to them how crap and boring these generic sites are.... :)

I tried to use the online system for the first time the other day couldn't even get on to it. My customer number didn't match my e-mail address which is strange as I was signing up and to the best of my knowledge have never given the club my e-mail adddress. In the end I gave up and just bought them from the ticket office don't think I'll bother with the online again.

This is a well known problem, happens to everyone first time (usually in the lead up to big Cup matches funnily enough)... just email the club and they'll reset your account.

I used to know the details of this inside and out when I actually used the system.

**** service and £3 a pop to use it. Probably best not to mention it on here though or the thought police will be all over you.

The thought police are unthinking faschists

Anyway NC is saving up his £3s so that the system can be upgraded - can't you see this? We should all book on line so that the system can be improved before North Korea ends the world

I remember us doing an on-line survey on the official site about purchasing tickets online last season. We all seemed to say the same things about wanting to choose our own seats, etc. but I never heard of any feedback from the club or any intention to do anything about it.

Send an E-Mail to David Luker, people usually get a good result from that.

.....am I the only person who has never had a problem with the online system? I always book my tickets that way.

The only cock up with it I have experienced, I benefited from as I was able to buy as many tickets as I wanted for the Pompey game even before ST's could buy them! I only bought 4. Could have been greedy!

You are not the only one, I think its great. But then again i'm not a total seat mong, as long as I get round about where I want im not bothered. Always get the tickets in plenty of time. Every other ticket site on earth charges a booking fee. Get over it, you lot aren't happy unless your moaning I swear.
