ericofarabia Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Just had a quick browse through our remaining games and here are a few quick thoughts. Of our 7 Home games, 1/ Only Walsall Brizzle Rvrs are amongst the 10 L1 clubs to have won less than 5 away games so far. All the rest of our visitors have won 5 or more. 2/ Yeovil have taken more away points than at home. 3/ Nobody has lost less away games than Charlton's 5 defeats 4/ Hartlepool have take the 3rd most points away from home, behind Huddersfield and Brighton, who are also the only 2 teams with more away wins than them. and away .... 5/ 5 out of our 8 visits include trips to Colchester, Bompey, Rochdale, Orient and Brighton..... these are the only teams in L1 to have only lost 2 home games or less!!!! 6/ Brighton are the only team undefeated at home this season. Excluding Peterboro !!, Bompey and Brighton have scored most home goals (9 & 8 more than us). 7/ Anybody fancy our chances at Plymouth the way we seem to play away to bottom teams!! On the upside (although I dread to tempt fate!!) 1/ Nobody has lost away from home more than Brizzle Rvrs or Sheff Wed. 10 defeats each.!! 2/ Only Exeter (a last min goal for us) and Walsall no goals for us have let in more home goals than Plymouth!! You can prove anything with stats of course!! But we will have to be on top of our game every game to stand any chance of bagging 2nd spot. alpine_saint Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 So we should forget it. The team wont turn up for those away matches for a start.

Saint Charlie Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 We will raise our game for the "bigger" teams anyway.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Plymouth away will be an important game, if ever they find some money to survive until the end of the season and they get a couple of results that may permit them to think that they can still escape relegation then they may be a problem for us.don't fancy our chances at either Rochdale or Orient anyway, 2 draws there I think. Brighton we'll lose unless we get a loan striker..which we won't. Bournemouth...now this is the key game.At the moment we can go ahead of them on goal difference (at least +4) should we win the games we have in hand on them, but if they can still stay ahead of us anyway they may play for a draw and we know that they can defend at Dean Court. Of our home games the only one I fear is Sheffield Wednesday, they should be doing better than they have been of late and will probably click eventually, they also looked difficult to break down against Bournemouth. My projection? Home: 5 wins and 2 draws 17 points Away 3 wins and 3 draws,1 defeat thus leaving Bournemouth being the all important decider. saintmatt Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Oldham had only lost twice at home all season before we bowled up and battered them 6-0. Generally I find myself more concerned about playing teams who are going into the match with terrible records than those going in with decent ones - and I usually find that my concerns are realised fairly often! I can see Saints picking up 9 points from Brighton, Charlton and Bournemouth (I hate this Bompey thing, don't pander to their desire for us to hate them!!) and then dropping points at home to Bristol Rovers, Sheff Wed etc

We struggle against those with poor records as they don't come looking for any result other than a draw..Even Brighton didn't turn up looking to beat us. Walsall would have been made up with a draw on Tuesday. Are Sheffield going to turn up looking to play us off the park? No they will park the bus and hope we don't get an early goal. Brighton and B Mouth away should be good games where they look for a result and it could go either way. If they park the bus at home against us I think it will tell us that every team perceives us as the best in the league..Somehow I think they won't and they will fancy a game of footy and their chances of beating us. I think it will be a good end to the season..... For the positive thinkers...The result at Walsall may in fact mean on the last day of the season they come to us with nothing to play for rather than needing a point to stay up..so they may not park the bus in front of goal that day! Blandford saint Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Just taking those early chances seems to make the biggest difference with us. if we score before the match has settled down we can really open up any team in this division. The longer the game goes on without scoring, we struggle, doesn't matter if we're playing the top team or the bottom team.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 (edited) Here's my two pennies worth: Tue 8 19:45 H Yeovil Town No excuses- win. Sat 12 15:00 A Bournemouth Think we will raise our game- win. Sat 19 17:20 H Sheffield Wed On Sky, Sheff Weds can be good on their day- Draw. Tue 22 19:45 A Charlton Charlton aren't great but think they'll raise game against us- Draw. Sat 26 12:30 A Plymouth Sh*t and only getting sh*tter- Win. April Sat 2 15:00 H MK Dons No Excuses- Win. Tue 5 19:45 H Charlton No excuses- Win. Sat 9 15:00 A Leyton Orient Doing well this season- Draw. Tue 12 19:45 A Rochdale Will out battle us- Lose. Sat 16 15:00 H Bristol Rovers No Excuses- Win. Sat 23 15:00 A Brighton Can't see us getting anything- Lose. Mon 25 15:00 H Hartlepool No Excuses- Win. Sat 30 15:00 A Brentford Usually decent at home, but if we want it enough- Win. May Sat 7 15:00 H Walsall No excuses- Win. I think that those results are fairly realistic and although there will be excuses made at times and we may not win those we're expecting we may well win some of those we are not- think Norwich away last season. This would gain us a further 30 points, meaning we would finish the season on 82 points. Edited 3 March, 2011 by for_heaven's_Saint

Looks more like 30 odd than 27.
The9 Posted 3 March, 2011 Share Posted 3 March, 2011 I did the BBC predictor last week and I had us down in 2nd (with one to play, the Plymouth match not on there). The result against Brighton settled the title and we finished comfortably ahead of 3rd even with a couple of defeats thrown in. Then we lost to Walsall... Oh yeah I forgot Colchester, but I think we may lose anyway. As for the Maths- you're right, it makes 30, not 27- will correct it.
ericofarabia Posted 3 March, 2011 Author Share Posted 3 March, 2011 Ouch - I forgot the Sheff Wed game was on Teh Tellybox - hells bells - we'll be lucky to squeeze a draw out of that one now!! If we do keep up with the pack we will no doubt have the honour of being on TV at least once more as well. Brighton away maybe?
