Does Dickson have a Future Here?

I was always slightly baffled by the signing of Dickson. We have Harding and Mills who are both very capable LB players and the team sheet comes pre-printed with Lallana at LM.

The only way I can see him having a role next season is if we fail to go up and Donny sign Mills permanently. If we do go up, Mills could well be our first choice at LB.

In midfield I just don't rate him. Even if Lallana is injured, I'd rather have someone else.

Thoughts?

If Mills would be our 1st choice LB in the Championship, it does beg the question why he isn't in L1? I actually thought it was a decent signing at the time, but Harding has performed better then expected IMO. It's funny that we have both the RB and LB from the team of the year last season, yet neither can get in our team!

I'm sure Ian Harte was LB in the team of the year last year; I believe it was just Andy Scott's selling patois that told us Dickson was the best LB in the division...

I think Harte played centre back for most of last season but got placed in that position due to him being a left back when he in his prime.

I'm sure someone who knows more will correct me but I was under the impression that he only got in as he scored a few free kicks...

He's a good left back, decent at left midfield and can do a job in the centre of midfield. Harding's got the spot at the moment but Dickson is not a significantly inferior player by any stretch.

Can never understand why Dickson gets criticised on here.

Granted, he hasn't set the world alight, but he hasn't had a prolonged run in the first team either.

He's a good player to have in the squad, he keeps Harding on his toes and he's more than able at left-midfield too.

I actually think Dickson is a better LB than Mills, and wouldn't be surprised to see us sell the latter to Doncaster in the summer.

I think we're going to sign a new left back if we go up.

Harding's been on a gradual downward spiral since the start of last season, Dickson's always looked better going forward than backwards, and Mills doesn't look like a defender either.

Excellent signing. Very good player both going forward and defensively. He's such a game runner, constantly looking to overlap and get to the byeline. He lacks just a fraction of pace, but kind of like Bale he will just push it in front of him and test the fullback. Even if he can't beat him he works him hard, gets a corner and put opponents on the back foot. With a little luck he'd have scored several goals this season (one or two unbelievable saves denying him) and I bet my bottom dollar if they had gone in fans would rave about him on here.

I'm not sure why people question his signing. He has matched Harding this season IMO, who IMO was the best left back in the league last season. So if he doesn't oust him from the side it doesn't mean he is poor. I actually rate Mills too, but the squad is stronger with Dickson in it. If Harding had got injured we would not have missed him at all.

Given a long run in the side I think he would become a fans favourite.

Agree totally. why can't people be happy that we have great options for the same position?

Harding is in good form and has been very consistant. Dickson is a fine player and has done nothing wrong but Harding isn't easy to displace. Strength in depth is what we have, we should be positive about that. If Dickson wasn't here you people would moan that we wouldn't have cover incase Harding got injured.

Agree with every word of this - just hope Nigel does too.
