georgeweahscousin Posted 28 March, 2013 Share Posted 28 March, 2013 .....anyone else remember this demolition at the hands of Ruud Gullit? http://blogs.metro.co.uk/sport/chelsea-memories-ruud-awakening-saints/
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 28 March, 2013 Share Posted 28 March, 2013 This was the game when Matthew Harding came down and got MLT to sign an autograph and then held it aloft to the Chelsea fans pretending he had signed a contract - I think.... Colinjb Posted 28 March, 2013 Share Posted 28 March, 2013 Nice memory? Great hit, but not a highlight as far as I am concerned.
Bucks Saint Posted 28 March, 2013 Share Posted 28 March, 2013 Shocking defending. Would never do that now. Probably
pingwing Posted 28 March, 2013 Share Posted 28 March, 2013 Gullit was a class player back in the day!
david in sweden Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 I always like to recall the game at Stamford Bridge in 1967.... when we won 6-2... and Ron Davies scored FOUR. -´(yes I know it was before some of you were born, but it's still a nice memory........) aintforever Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 Didn't he do the same at the Dell that season?
The Kraken Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 I was there for that one. My lasting memory of the day is their 3rd goal, where Franny just turned around and ran away from Gullit instead of shutting him down.
david in sweden Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 Didn't he do the same at the Dell that season? Yes he did, but it was Aston Villa actually, and I was there to see it. Result was 6-2. Villa were already down and out for the count, but they didn't lie down and die, either. Can't recall a more convincing individual performance before - or since. Very nice for me... as the last 3 goals were all scored at the Milton end and I saw them perfectly. Davies' goals were a bit of everything, and included a penalty, but some nice finishes -all with his feet - including a good solo effort beating 4 defenders which he finished from a close angle, and he'd even hit the woodwork earlier on .......and had a " good " goal ruled out for offside...should have been FIVE. Great game.
Lets B Avenue Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 (edited) Sorry David, but I think you will find Ron's 2nd half goals, plus the last minute disallowed (incorrectly as Paine pulled the ball back from the by-line) were scored at the Archers. He scored his first (our 2nd) from 20 yards at the Milton and I dont remember him ever doing that again. We even went 1-0 down. kpturner Posted 29 March, 2013 Share Posted 29 March, 2013 More recently the game at the Dell where we went 2-0 up. They came back to 2-2 and the Chelsea fans started signing "2-0 and you f**ked it up" - only for Beattie to fire in a long range free-kick just before the end......cue chants of "2-2 and you f**ked it up" Oh - and the 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge on New Years Day. david in sweden Posted 30 March, 2013 Share Posted 30 March, 2013 Sorry David, but I think you will find Ron's 2nd half goals, plus the last minute disallowed (incorrectly as Paine pulled the ball back from the by-line) were scored at the Archers. He scored his first (our 2nd) from 20 yards at the Milton and I dont remember him ever doing that again. We even went 1-0 down. well one of us obviously had " a bit of brain fade on this one", . ...but I still think I was right - especially the solo run ...and the later disallowed goal seemed so memorable. For me it was always one match that I thought I remember best, still .......we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, then .. Was still a good result, though.... eh ?
