Saint-Armstrong Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 BBC Sport's Richard Conway: BBC Sport has learned that the Premier League meeting in London has passed goal-line technology for use next season, with British-based Hawk-Eye awarded the contract. The FA will also install a system at Wembley Stadium in time for the Community Shield in August. A raft of financial regulations have also been ratified by the 20 clubs. david in sweden Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 (edited) it's one small (and long overdue) step for man, but unlikely to be utilised more than 2 or 3 times a season, whereas dozens of penalty calls and off side goals occur every week and still get missed. I am brutally tired of watching games on the TV ....and then realising that whilst I can see almost instantaneous replays of an incident ..the ref will only give it if he (or one of the assistants) actually sees it, and many times the culprit gets away scot-free. The SKy / BBC commentator is better placed to refereee the game instead of "mere humans" - highly capable of making huge mistakes. Blatter and Platini should stop trying to run (or should it be ruin) the game by holding onto 19th century ethical standards whilst refusing to allow 21st century technology to show the real truth. Many other sports; Ice Hockey, Tennis, Rugby and Cricket ....aren't afraid to show the action - why not football. THERE ..rant over!.......but true nonetheless Edited 11 April, 2013 by david in sweden
krissyboy31 Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 Of course Reading probaby think we wouldn't have beaten them if it had been installed before Saturday. Do we already have it at St Mary's or was it taken down after the testing?
davefoggy Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 Introducing technology/video replays into football for every decision will ruin our game. I really hope hawkeye isnt the beginning of a slippery slope of clinical games. Who honestly enjoys watching cricket/rugby/ice hockey anyway. A boring spectacle at the best of times. Give me a football match full of drama and controversy everytime
Bearsy Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 What i think is cool is now computers is keeping track of how many goals is scored they can do away with all other rules and referees and linesmens. I would love to see game with no rules at all! It would be mayhems!

Even decisions given by the video refs andTMO's in the rugby codes are not universally accepted.
SaintRobbie Posted 11 April, 2013 Share Posted 11 April, 2013 I am disappointed. The reason? Football is a game played by humans. It is about the debate, the referees decision, the fans opinion, the managers view, the players passion. Introducing a VERY expensive system for a controversy that happens once in a blue moon and frankly takes away an element of the human part of the game is a great shame IMHO. I wish they'd spent the cash on youth development. Utterly pointless. Its a game of skill, teamwork of players and fans, Boardrooms and trainers, its a game of human endeavour and luck and controversy, not a game for robots. Waste of money and an erosion of sport. I hate it in Rugby and tennis, although I would suggest it does help in cricket to add to the tactical options! Football should be played as it is, with posts, a pitch, markings and a ball. AND HUMAN BEINGS.
