SuperMikey Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 Hola b!tches Gave British Gas a meter reading for my Gas today and it was 0048. Is that abnormally low? They're sending a technician on Friday to double-check but they seemed very surprised that it was that low, probably thought we were fiddling it. We don't use the heating, have an electric shower and the only gas appliance in the flat is our oven (which probably gets used for about 5 hours a week, max). Bearsy Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 i enjoyed this insight into mikeyworld, all huddled together for warmth, cooking one meal per week. Does sound low though. For comparison, dubai phil expels 0067 gas per day.

Smirking_Saint Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 Its a bit low, and FWIW gas will cost you less than electricity in the long run so if you can use gas heating etc
Window Cleaner Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 must be jammed, that's about 1.4 cubics metres, price of that probably doesn't pay for their phone call.
Bearsy Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 i reckon you've gone round the clock and actually used 10048 gas. If I was british gas I would be billing you £50K or whatever.
Bearsy Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 In fact I will write to them now and tell them bout ur bs bout never using heating or taking showers or whatever.
Deano6 Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 Doesn't it depend what it was at the start of the period, and only the difference that matters? There's only the end reading here.

The meter doesnt reset though, if for instance you moved house you would take the final reading bla bla etc If that meters been installed since 86 then Id say its knackered

I've no idea what the normal rate of increase over a time period is.
Block 18 Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 That is an old U6 meter, also its imperial, hence the cubic ft rather that cubic mtr mesurment. It is likely that the meter has done one complete revolution, zeroed itself and started again. You can check this from your previous gas bill which should have a readin on it, if its something like 9999.99 then thats whats happened. You could ask them for a nice new E6 smart meter to replace it.

True, as much as I work in utilities I have never been an expert on metering if Im honest
SuperMikey Posted 3 September, 2013 Author Share Posted 3 September, 2013 Just for some more info, we only moved into the place in July. I think the previous tenants had quite a high spend on Gas, as when I went to set up the direct debit they suggested we pay almost twice as much for gas as electric. I guess i'll find out what it actually is when the guy comes out on Friday, but thanks for the advice! I'll ask about getting a new meter as well, it does look ancient. suewhistle Posted 3 September, 2013 Share Posted 3 September, 2013 What was the reading when you moved in? Surely that's the critical thing? I moved back to my place in July and changed the key meters back to credit and since the reading on my new gas meter is 3(!), and 51 units for leccy. Probably helps having solar panels though!:-)

suewhistle Posted 4 September, 2013 Share Posted 4 September, 2013 Doesn't anybody know any other Italian wine other than Chianti, harumph?! It might have been a Barbera Vivace, or a Barbaresco or an Aglianico delle Vulture or a Torrette Superieure or Nus Malvoisie or a Valpolicella Ripasso.. Incidentally, having seen some of the UK prices my car's going to be pretty laden on my next trip over. Many of them are stored under the stairs next to my gas meter, so iss not really off-topic... You have Tourette's Sue? Didn't want to let the world know about Amarone, need to make sure there's a lake or two of it left why I next get to that part of the world - sorry to stereotype I have Butane Cylinders - they run out - right in the middle of a Full English Fry Up - on a Friday. Would LOVE to have real gas. There kept on topic
suewhistle Posted 4 September, 2013 Share Posted 4 September, 2013 If you like Amarone you might also like Masi's Campo Fiorin, available in Majestic.
