He never has been a defensive midfielder and we would have been better off not playing him at the world cup. On the international stage he will be regarded as a total failure. He clearly wasnt a total failure, after Scholes he was the best midfielder we have had for ages, how many games did we go unbeaten when he came into the side ? He played ok at Liverpool there, they got too reliant and he was tired at the end IMO but they played 3 cms, thats what we should have done.
