1965onwards Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 .........you need to know. The result of matches is unimportant. Administration and relegation is a certainy,so need even to PRETEND to be trying.
1976_Child Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 agreed. There is absolutely no way we will be playing in CCC next season. Having read the transcript from the AGM there is also no way that the club will be solvent for much longer. SFC's darkest period since the club was founded. soton76 Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 Couldn't believe the team sheet today....no Perry, Wotton or Pearce in the starting line up. I bunch of young kids fooled by the Academy into thinking they are the new Bridge/Bale/Wolcott. After 48 years of supporting Saints I have never felt less optimistic. chi saint Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 Whilst relegation is certainly not yet a certainty, I was thinking that if we did go down for some strange reason I wouldn't be half as upset as I was when we left the premiership, I wonder if other feel the same. In fact whilst I of course want us to stay up a part of me says "serves you right Saints".

The youngsters might, might, might be able to compete against the div one teams. It is flipping obvious to all (except Lowe) that they are well out of their depth in the CCC. Legod Third Coming Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 well to be honest we actually are a div one team anyway. Look at the team atop League One and you will see it is no place for kids. Go down with this squad and we'll go down again. In this league you can play football and get away with it. Not League One. In this league you can play football and get away with it. Not League One. Spot on. If you haven't already read the article by the Forest fan in the Saints v Forest programme, then do so. He makes it abundantly clear - if clarity were required - that League 1 is a bruisers' league where you get no time on the ball and where teams simply park 11 men behind the ball. We can't beat teams in this supposedly more open league, so the thought of mixing it with League 1 cloggers with James, Lancashire and McGoaldrought leading the line is a terrifying thought. With this team (more or less), this manager and this 'plan', League 1 will quickly lead to League 2.

We'd not be able to compete against the likes of Leicester (who will not be there anyway), or Nottingham, Doncaster who would regroup while we would be following the path of 'prudent fiscal behaviour'. I really believe that we are doomed, both on and off the pitch.

St Landrew Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 I've been making a point of trying to separate myself emotionally from SFC, because I see no point in continual heartache. I must say it's working. I looked up from my Lem-Sip and whisky earlier, to find the 2-0 result on teletext. I'd put the scale of disappointment in the region of 1/10, where '0' is I couldn't give a toss, and 10 is suicidal. My love of Southampton FC is of a club that existed when I started following them in 1966, up until just a short time ago. That love has been eroded by people who have no idea of what it means to head a football club, from a sporting point of view. I've had to distance myself somewhat from SFC before, purely by circumstance; moving to NZ for a while, for example. But this time I'm doing it on purpose. It has nothing to do with Jan Poortvliet, or his staff, or the players. They're trying their best, but the resources just aren't there to back them up. If you budget for relegation, you'll achieve it. That's the only trophy I see on the horizon.

homesick-saint Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 i've been a fan for 50 years and the only way I can deal with the situation is to be detatched. You're right, the performance and results stop hurting after a while. Can anyone see a glimmer of hope on the horizon?

It gives me minimal pleasure. It does not exist to try and do what the team I supported existed to try and do. It has been killed.

Junior Mullet Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 Exactly what I thought. Kano and Goeburn and the others in the U.18's at the moment are no better than Conference level players at best but looks like we're getting them ready for a relegation scrap in Div 1 next year - FFS, why else would we be playing them? They are simply not good enough to justify playing in the first 11 unless that is our accepted fait. I really am worried about our future. Remember I have said a hundred times on here now that Lowe will sell the little family silver we have left and play the younger youngsters before he loses 'his' club via administration. VectisSaint Posted 26 December, 2008 Share Posted 26 December, 2008 My sentiments entirely. If you started watching in 1966 today's team must have been the worst in the forty two years since. I'm with St Landrew entirely, even down to when we started supporting Saints. And yes this is by a long way the worst team ever to don the red & white. The players themselves, I don't blame them, but there is no real talent out there that belongs to SFC. We laud Lallana and Surman, but quite frankly they are only made to look ood because they shine out from the rest of the shower of ****. Cork is the only one with real talent. A decent manager would be able to polish this turd for mid-table safety, but thats about as good as you can say. JP is not blessed in the turd-polishing department. I wonder if Ali Dia may have looked half decent in this team. Sad, sad day, I think I have given up caring (though it hurts to say that). I no longer feel any desire to go to a game on a Saturday, Lowe has beaten it out of me. I lost that desire at the Watford game.

Over the past months its gone: Theory 1: Lowe is going to steer us out of this. This theory lasted a couple of days max, when the same managerial appointment lunacy started. Theory 2: Anything is better than administration. Bollokcs! If i give zero toss for the PLC then i give a zero toss for it going into administration! Theory 3: Lowe is trying to trash the club and make it worthless because (a) he hates it or (b) if its worthless he can buy it back for worthlessness plus £1. Not sure which of the last two i go fo rat the moment. What I DO know is that relegation to Div 1 then Div 2 then Southern league is NOT the end of the world. My early footy days were spent supporting Bath City, my first team. Crowds of over 2,000. i was part of the ari-raid shelter end. Bloody good time really. No, we never won anything big, never really in with a chance apart from the odd pop at a Div 4 club in the FA cup) but so what? So if its down, down, down then one day the cancer Lowe will be gone and i will be back. Until then, its 1/10 on the "can i be ar$ed" meter. COYR, but fikc off Lowe
