TijuanaTim Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 I truly believe this to have been an admirable experiment in our dire financial situation with JP etc. I am the most positive Saint there is, however, it maybe time now to get some help. Yes I want to play the right way, love the FACT we use our nippers, play with willingness - not just going through the motions. I just think we need someone with their finger on the pulse coaching/management wise. A person with true Southampton and Southampton fan comprehension. Let's get the unblemished hero that is Nick Holmes back where he belongs at SFC. Let Jan do all the great coaching he does at Staplewood and let St Nick pick the team and work the game day strategies, employing his tactical nuance if things change during matches. If we can't afford Nick on top of the others then we should choose whether he would be more value to the Saints than one of the other group of coaches. Nick would be a win-win for us even if the dreaded 'r' word happened he would be a leader that we all could relate to, get behind and support. Most of all a true Saint with a fantastic disposition that the kids could want to emulate.

TopGun Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 or s dutch man putting his finger in the dyke Yes, that may be true. But Holmes would be another cheap choice of the same ilk. You have to look at the plumbing and feel sorry for Jan.

david in sweden Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 Nick might see it as his quickest route to League 2 football so you may be onto something. Am inclined to agree with you. If it was down to heart and commitment to the club Nick would be top of the pile. The only Southampton-born player to have captained the side on a regular basis, FA Cup winner and third only behind Channon and Paine for apps. BUT...you could say that Doddsy had the heart for it but let's face it neither of them has really set the Confrence sides alight.

70's Mike Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 If it were quite that easy we would all be Managers. whilst i would not claim to be experienced at a high level of football management with 2 sons (21 and 14) i have run sides from under 8 to under 18 , and the biggest thing i learned was play players in positions they are comfortable with, Both Holmes and BWP looked like fish out of water and it was no coincidence that when Smith came on to the right side we started to get behind them . Turtle Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 When Derby appointed Clough jnr recently, it was lauded as a brave but exciting move - one that would at least lead to a more united fan base and give the mangement more time to put in place their own system (put things right, in their own words) I think given our current situation, we could only aspire to get someone like Nick Holmes in. We couldn't afford anyone like Billy Davies, Ady Boothroyd or even Nigel Pearson (as if he'd come back!)... I think NH is a great option for getting some unity at SFC, but this could only happen with Rupert gone. If Derby can appoint Nigel Clough, then Saints can appoint Nick Holmes

Badger Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 Ridiculous suggestion in my view. Nick Holmes, great servant to the club, yes;anything more is imaginative in the extreme.I saw him interviewed during Salisbury's cup run and he seemed pretty uninspiring and I can't see him motivating frankly. As for tactical genius,I'll bow to your knowledge TT but I was not aware of it.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 17 January, 2009 Share Posted 17 January, 2009 Tim, no offence but you talk utter ****e. Holmes once had a role at Southampton working under Nicholl but he quit because he couldn't hack it. Your posts are not helping mate. Things are a lot more serious than you realise. Either move back to So'ton and endure the crap 100% or keep your happy clappy claptrack to yourself.

saintstr1 Posted 18 January, 2009 Share Posted 18 January, 2009 I Agree we need a new manager , A Proper Manager , Someone who knows the english game and the Championship. Just look at Forest since that little **** BD has gone there. I do not like him as a person but he is good at his job. Jan I like as a person but I am afraid the job is to much for him, He should stick to coaching youngsters , Youth team/Academy I sure he would to a good job...........Championship Manager he is not
