Stokes in hot water though and if there was an alternative who hadn’t been in a fight or pissed to the point of staggering in the last 12 months, he’d probably be replaced. There isn’t an obvious option bar Caretaker Root who didn’t enjoy the role.

As this is the general England cricket thread. Well done to the ladies for getting to the T20 final. I think they can beat Australia but we would need to be at our absolute best and Australia have an under par performance.

A hollow victory. India's bowling is sub standard and from their point of view this T20 séries must be a complete waste of time. They'll always be chasing 200 plus, slow bowlers like theirs are useless in English conditions, well for limited overs anyway.

He’s given England fans a taste of what we’ve enjoyed in Hampshire for many years.

Sensible, quality cricket with Root, the two adults in the side assessing conditions and adapting. Liam can whack it too but shot selection miles better than the so-called top order of Bazball boneheads.

Superb India attack but some of the shots on 5th stump were horrible with a bit of pace and bounce.
