OldNick Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Would it in hindsight have been better if the fans who sing and get behind the team have got their seats in the Chapel. We could then have had a proper 'home end'. Somewhere the fans would really get behind the team and we'd have our own Kop,Stretford,Holt end or even the Milton from the 60's. I know a lot of the momnkeys want to stand next to the away fans but as for causing an intimidating atmosphere, having a whole end full of fans wanting to sing and roar the team home would be good. Please do not associate it with the Chapel now, but how it could have been had it been arranged better.
Saints foreva Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Every Northam STH should move to the chapel for next season!
a1ex2001 Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 I think the best decision would have been to build one with 10K less seats.

Now that is madness, the cost would have bee reduced by very little doing so, unless of course it was a tongue in cheek comment
Mole Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Just move the away fans into the Itchen Corner.
OldNick Posted 30 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 30 January, 2009 Just move the away fans into the Itchen Corner. In principle do you not think in hindsight if we had one end that was full of fans singing and causing an intimidating atmosphere that would be better. I do agree that the away fans should be put in a worse position where they could not make such an impact.Newcastle put them up in the gods (a massive stadium of course) and norwich i read only gave us a small strip on the side where the impact is less. It would have been much better had the whole of the chapel been the singing end and should have been organised better when the stadium was built and before tickets were purchased that doesnt mean that it cant change - thats up to us of course but at the moment there are too many "pockets" dotted around which makes the whole atmosphere poorer
Weston Saint Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 In my early days, late 60's, we all packed to Milton Road End and the away support was at the Archers Road. There was a fantastic atmosphere, particularly when there was a heavy away support. Admit at that time it was mostly terrace standing which does make a difference and we often had 25,000 - 30,000 in the ground. Nowhere near the same atmosphere now. I agree to extent, I think i we'd moved the away fans around to one of the wings we'd of achieved this, Northam still there, just would have the whole end! Why does everything with this club have to some down to one of two things these days the club was here long before the 'money' and 'lowe' issues and will still be here long after them. When will we be alowed to make comments without refference to 'money' or 'lowe'?
Saint_clark Posted 30 January, 2009 Share Posted 30 January, 2009 The atmosphere is all at the northam end anyway. Northam, Itchen North and Kingsland north are the main areas that sing.

It all depends on if you think we will forever be where we are now.I have the hope that these dark days will go and things will get better.Having a 22k stadium would have us with near on the same outlay but without the opportunity to grow and increase revenue . please do not give me the money is not impoortant as it is, not only for day to day running but the purchase of better players to help fill the ground. In the last 2 years a 22k stadium would not have been big enough on many occasions. I dont know if you are old enough to remember when the Milton was our end, on its day it could generate a tremendous atmosphere and it had no roof. The thought of ALL the fans who sing and drive the team on in one area is mouthwatering and you would soon forget the Northam.I agree it generates the most noise in the ground but it is dissapated by the away fans and also where we have sections in different areas around the ground eg the Itchen. Why don't we make one with 10,000 seats then, just in case we end up in league 2 at some point in the next twenty years? Or 8,000? We don't want to risk any empty seats now do we?
