trousers Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11441 Saints midfielder Andrew Surman has made it into the Football League's Championship team of the week on the back of Saturday's win over Cardiff at St. Mary's. The 22 year-old was selected from all of the games played over the weekend to feature in the divisional eleven. It is the second week in a row that Surman has been selected in the side following last week's inclusion on the back of Saints' 3-1 success over Preston. The team is as follows: Smith (Nottm Forest), Baptiste (Blackpool), Williamson (Watford), Morgan (Nottm Forest), Lynch (Nottm Forest), McGugan (Nottm Forest), Miller (Ipswich), Cowie (Watford), SURMAN (SAINTS), Tudgay (Sheff Weds), Clarke (Sheff Weds). How do they work these things out? Whilst Surman had a good game he came well down the pecking order on our Man of the Match poll on here.

Well I suppose if it was all done on teams Man of the Match awards then you might well end up with 4 or 5 keepers and 4 or 5 strikers. I expect he was the best in his position on Saturday. saintjay77 Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 Forest must of played a blinder looker at the number of players thay have in the 11!! I was gona say that. It may as well be the Forrest team of the week. To be fair we have been shyite all season yet got back to back wins against the 4th place team in the CCC, KD played a blinder as did many others in our team and yet Surman gets the plaudits. I dont get it?

trousers Posted 3 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 March, 2009 It would appear that the CCC team-of-the-week is produced by the Press Association and is based on the Actim Index.... http://actimindex.wordpress.com/about-the-actim-index/faqs/ Actim Index Frequently Asked Questions What is the Actim Index? The Actim Index is the official player rating system of the English Premier League and Coca-Cola Championship. It was introduced for the 2004/05 season and was devised by statisticians at the University of Salford in partnership with PA Sport. In the 2006/07 season the Actim Index was enhanced by the addition of assists and clean sheets to the factors that are taken into account. What is the purpose of the Actim Index? It identifies the players who make key contributions. It allows players to be ranked against each other at random or using such criteria as playing position, nationality, age, or geographical location of their team. It highlights the key players in a league or team. It shows the form of a player or team. Individual player/team performances can be scientifically analysed over a season or period of time within a season. It provides fans with the knowledge of who is the best. How accurate is the Actim Index? The calculations are based on the six key factors that contribute to a player’s effectiveness and his ability to help his team win matches. The formulae were devised through analysis of hundreds of games since the start of the English Premier League in 1992 and have been statistically proven to measure a player’s effectiveness in winning matches. How is the Actim Index calculated? Complex mathematical formulae were devised to calculate the value of each player’s contribution, match by match. In simple terms, the Actim Index comprises four calculations: Calculation 1 - Assesses a player’s contribution to a winning team, based on points won by the team when he appeared. Calculation 2 - Assesses a player’s performance in each game, by allocating points for actions that positively contribute to a winning performance such as shots, tackles, clearances and saves. It also takes points away from players for negative actions such as yellow/red cards and shots off target. Calculation 3 - Allocates points based on time on the pitch. Calculation 4 - Allocates points for goal scorers. Calculation 5 - Allocates points for assists. Calculation 6 - Allocates points for clean sheets. Saint Richard of Woolston Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 I think he consistently lacks pace, consistently avoids tackles and consistently misplaces passes. OK, Ok, a bit harsh. Not a lot, though. Andrew has not improved as much as I thought he would have over the last 2 years. He is little better now than when he first arrived on the scene. Maybe Wotte will be the man that makes him focus and work on his game. Let's hope so - the potential, albeit unrealised, is still there.
Big Bad Bob Posted 3 March, 2009 Share Posted 3 March, 2009 I thought Gillett did better, but Surman put a few good crosses in.. Wilkinson Sword was in the NOTW team of the week. He is massively improved now. His awareness on the pitch is fantastic.

Saint Stimp Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Anyone else notice Drew in BBC's quotes of the week... "I'm a massive Kings of Leon fan. I hope to see them in the summer. If they help us stay up I'll take a thank-you note from the lads!" Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman, who has seen the team's recent resurgence coincide with the changing of the pre-match music to Sex On Fire
Scummer Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Including ex-Saint Smith in goal. Williamson of Watford is another ex-Saint in that team.
