...if saints cease to exist?

tbh i think i have seen the best that saints have to offer since i started going when i was 4 (1971),i have travelled the country and europe,i have been to a few cup finals and a few semis,i have seen them promoted and relegated,i have been to every saints v pompey game since my first in 1976 i have witnessed some of the greatest goals scored by some of the greatest players ever to wear the red and white and i have made some good friends through following saints so if they go out of business then i will always have those memories which i dont think can be topped, not in my lifetime anyway.

........what im basically saying is **** you younger lot you should have been born earlier:-)

dont get me wrong,i would be devastated if it does happen.

I cannot read it without glasses and saw my first match at the dell in 1949 so I guess it makes me a older fan................ And yes it really hurts the older fans , I too have seen cup finals , european matches & all the great Saints players from Alf Ramsey , Ted Bates , Don Roper , to the later heros like Micky Channon , MLT Etc over 60 years as a Saints supporter, and all that is going on at the moment .. HURTS LIKE HELL.

been a fan since 66,course it hurts and i care what happens to saints as much as the youngsters or elders.saints is with you from the first game till you die, born a saint, live a saint, die a saint.been all over, seen saints in all their finals.you have one true love all through your life, and that is saints,up and down saints is with you forever.

Couldn't have chosen better words myself, Lordswood Saint

(Incidentally my first match was in Jan 1959.)

We all have our own memories, but somehow a bankruptcy/club disappearing would be very painful, as there would be so much to grieve over.

Of course I am looking for a miracle to revive the clubs " fortunes "(?)

Interesting question , i HAVE seen 5 cup semi final, 2 cup finals, league cup final, charity shield, zenith data cup final( still the biggest gathering of saints fans at a game), been to Germany, France, Belgium and Ireland to see team play, 2 promotions and 2 relegations( do not want another one), was present the day in Middlesboro we went top of the old division one for the first time ever, Notts County after the rape allegations, Dellhurst park

brought two sons up to share that love of the club and city

and what hurts me is looking at them suffer over the last few seasons, living in border country the fall of the saints matched by the skates rise,

just want my kids (21 and 14) to experience all i did watching for me still the greatest club on earth

SOUTHAMPTON FOOTBALL CLUB

All of the above, apart from the kids as my 24 year old daughter is not interested in football where did I go wrong. First game was Oct 9th 1959 against Swindon Derek Reeves got 4, been many highs and lows since but at the lowest point now.

What a damn good question!!!!. In our way yes, but we have many other things in our lives now, as opposed to when we were young. Will I care, yes, will I care as much as a youngster, um!!!, I don't think I will.

(I assume this was aimed at us folding as a club)

Youngsters like you may indeed not care that much but I can assure you that we older fans do. Okay going up to Maine Road and winning in the FA Cup; seeing Paine and Sydenham in their pomp; John Page and Tony Godfrey as the backbone of our defence all great moments but I still cant wait for 3.01 at Hillsboro on Saturday.

In my younger days when we lost I would take a while getting over it, lose sleep etc but now when we lose I'm still disappointed like most of us are but Idon't take it home with me.

If we disappear as a club (which we won't) I'd be bloody gutted but it's something we'll all have to get over, young & old.

When you reach a certain age you realise that there are more important things in life than football...what they are I've yet to find out :-)
