Lets hope a (Lowe-less) take over happens very soon!

There's also a great write up of the game which mentions the ref's unseemly dash for the tunnel while Wotton lay prosrate on the pitch and mentions an FA investigation into the missing £40m - first i have heard of that.

Very interesting indeed about the missing 40 million. Something I think 99% of Saints supporters have been suspecting for the past 5 years. Maybe, finally the chickens are about to come home to roost. Why in everything does David Jones, Finance Director, always come away squeaky clean?

Thanks for the link Art - will start a new thread on this "significant news".

Agreed

David Jones is the man responsible for our financial demise

It's not Rupert, Leon or Wilde, it's David Jones

I think an enquiry is good news, because I have a 'gut feeling' something very dodgy has been going on behind the scenes

Sooner or later I suspect that there will be a full forensic audit. I'm not sure who would commission it but somebody probably will. Perhaps one of the investigative media types, maybe the new owners (if they haven't waived their rights and if they can be bothered), possibly even the FL.

We are one of the highest profile examples - with more to come, sadly - of what can happen in a very short period in modern football. When the dust settles on the season, someone will go poking around. Hopefully.

it would explain why, with so much money coming in for transfers, we still hadn't got a pot to **** in, we were told by every new director that the books were a mess, ken dulieu was brough in to supposedly do a forensic accounting job (did we ever see the results of that?), and rupert was always so keen to maintain control and the pretence of best run club.

with that sort of money we'd own the stadium and have paid off the barclays loan with change to spare.

Garry Monk was recently quoted as saying that we had received around 52 million in transfer fees since relegation and he couldn't understand how we had become the mess that we are.

I haven't done the sums but it has long occurred to me that large sums go in (Walcott, Bale, Jones etc + parachute monies) and little comes out. This is NOT an administration caused from overspending in the transfer market, we only have low priced krap players, so where does all the money go? Even BWP doesn't earn 52 million (I think!).

The luvvies standard response is to look in the annual accounts "where it's all accounted for". I remain unconvinced about this as anything can be covered up if someone wanted to do so, for example I doubt if all of Al Capone's finances were written up in his official accounts.

Circumstantially it does look a bit dodgy IMHO, but let's hope for the club's sake that a perfectly reasonable explanation will be forthcoming. As a point of interest I wonder if Mark Fry's refusal (presumably it came from him) to allow Grant Thornton wider access to our accounting records may have in any way been connected to this matter?

Will be interesting to see if the FL, or even the fraud squad, do in fact take an interest in unravelling the audit trail at SFC/SLH, just to be reassured that everything really is above board....

Much as I'd like to see Rupert sent down, I find it difficult to see where a £40 mil 'black hole' can come from ? The accounts were published year on year and analysed in detail including on sites like this ! Surely some of it would have come out at the time Rupert was ousted by Wilde or when Crouch ousted Wilde !
