Very good interview. From the man himself: wants a goalkeeper coach (as rumoured), fitness coach, up to five new players, with a focus on speed; and not older than 24. He's also committed to promoting from the Academy. And he's personally getting involved in all of the scouting and recruiting departments. Hmmm - he didn't want to join bigger clubs in France last season because he wanted to play week in, week out. Can't think he'd therefore come here to sit on the bench. Are we really spending a chunk of our limited budget on a 19 year old keeper to be first choice? Unless Gunn's off (Man City exercised their buy back clause? He's shorter than Anthony Martial (5' 11"). And shorter than Daley Blind (5' 10"). And here he is absolutely towering over Jose Mourinho (5' 9")... He's far closer to Ward-Prowse (5' 8") than Rodriguez (6' 1"). Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

He's not tall - he's about Luke Shaw sized. But minus the Happy Meal addiction. Aerially, he's going to have learn to box clever, but that's true of most full backs. They're rarely towering six footers. I imagine adapting to the physical side of first team football will be his first hurdle to overcome. Good touch, very willing worker up and down the line. Wouldn't say his delivery stands out as being above and beyond expectation - Targett's always had a lovely cross on him - but he's a nice looking footballer, comfortable on the ball, gets about the pitch, plenty of hustle. Can't say for certain that he's out and out fast - busy is perhaps a better word. I think he's got a touch of Chilwell about him, from what I've seen. Obviously less developed and not at that level yet, but there's something to work with for sure. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

It's fair enough. There was always something off about the transfer, and Mane going on strike. I mean, who the hell goes on strike to join us? Seems as though he was angry at his club denying him the move he wanted to Dortmund - who are objectively a much bigger and more successful club than Saints. But he came here, he did well, I don't think his overall effort can be disputed (even if he did seem to go into hiding over the winter), and generally appears to be a decent bloke. Good luck to him. A midfielder with no midfield attributes. Poor touch, poor passer, poor spacial awareness, a liability in the tackle (or the jump-out-of the tackle) and positionally indisciplined. But he does have a nice shot. So, I suppose that's something. Not really in terms of goals or assists, but hey. Cracking head of hair. I suppose it's possible that Hasenhuttl's not picking him because he's just TOO damn good and he doesn't want his value to depreciate through overuse, but the more likely explanation is that he thinks he's crap. Why not both? We were so lucky last season that Redmond didn't get injured - we literally had no other options in terms of attacking pace and creativity. Djenpo, Boufal, Redmond and, say, Sims competing for two places would be a bounty of riches compared to the last year. Armstrong is absolute dump. This. He'll never be quick enough to be a successful full back in the Premier League. Some attributes you just can't compromise on in certain positions. As long as Bertrand is over his lingering back problems (and wants to be here), getting around £15m for a back up player represents decent business. Vokins has regularly been training with the first team since Hasenhuttl came in, and I don't think he's looked any less "ready" to play than Valery did in the u23 games I've seen. Don't forget McQueen should be back to fitness soon, so we wouldn't be entirely in the lurch. Reinvest the money elsewhere, where it's really needed. And it is really needed. I imagine they were a little blindsided by Stephens breaking into the first team (due to a raft of injuries) and - initially at least - not being too terrible, having not been particularly rated by the club previously. So they had a young English defender on a lowish wage with not much time left on his contract (18 months?), doing okay in the Premier League, and felt they needed to lock him down to a long deal so they could maximise his sale value a season or two down the line. I'm sure it made some kind of business sense - after all, we got £16m for Callum Chambers after half a season of mostly un-noteworthy outings, such is the bonkers premium on young English players.
