Quite a few, but damn I wish there was an archive of my "KEN~!!!" posts, God, I never stopped going on about him after that Anderlecht game and pre-season at Bournemouth and he even finally realised he was quite good himself somewhere along the line. Therefore I am clearly awesome and we should cut McGoldrick up into small pieces and sell him to pig farmers. Lallana was possibly worth about £2m at the start of the season based on his potential and goal against West Brom in a stupid transfer market, and he's worth about a million at the moment in a credit crunch and in terrible form in a relegated team, but with an England U-21 cap under his belt and being on the fringes of the right kind of "mate network" to put a word in with someone in the Prem that comes with all of that.

Ta Kelvin, you went from the worst player in our team in early 2006/7 to the best for the vast majority of last and this season, good luck with your future endeavours and all that... cos we're probably not going to be able to afford you anyway.

Me neither, I keep finding a rugby player, a northumbrian graduate in environmental issues and a bloke who makes BBC documentaries, and that's just the UK search. The international one has all sorts of randoms. Then again property development is only usually newsworthy if it's illegitimate or unscrupulous, so that's not such a bad thing.

You won't have heard of any of them, don't worry. Except maybe my current team, the mighty "Southampton Internet FC", propping up the Sholing Press League Sunday Division 5. But on the bright side, only 2 of our players are registered for them and 3 of the opposition -
I dunno where you get your mileage from, here's Fratton to St James' http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fratton+Park,+Portsmouth,+Portsmouth,+United+Kingdom&daddr=St.+James+Park,+Strawberry+Pl,+Newcastle+upon+Tyne,+Tyne+and+Wear,+NE1+4ST+(Newcastle+United+Club+Shop)&geocode=FdkXBwMd-8Pv_w%3BCX6RDnjgg_ynFeDaRgMdrT7n_yEoAUVo769H5g&hl=en&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=52.88602,-1.344806&sspn=4.574722,9.755859&ie=UTF8&ll=52.882391,-1.362305&spn=4.57542,9.755859&t=h&z=7 at 346 miles, a 692 mile trip. St Mary's to Brunton Park is indeed a 662 mile round trip, quite a lot of which is up the abominable M6. You can always fly to Newcastle of course, which is cheaper than getting the train or petrol if you book early, where's Carlisle International Airport ? And as for "£12 a ticket", it's £10 to watch Eastleigh, but I shouldn't think anything under £30 would put many people off. Maybe we should be comparing past Saints trips to Newcastle instead...?

The thing that annoyed me the most was that in the time between the penalty being given at 2-1 up and McGoldrick missing it I'd already worked out that a 2 goal win would have been the difference between "just" needing to beat Forest, and actually needing to beat Forest by 2 goals to overturn their goal difference advantage, which *I think* would have been the situation with a 1-goal win (I haven't checked since, naturally). Of course by doing that little calculation I doomed McGoldrick to miss it and us to concede another goal anyway. Or does it just always seem like it ?

That does explain why the managers started shaking hands at that point, long before the players did. Presumably the reason the players didn't start shaking hands straight away was that they knew Wotton was quite seriously injured. I could only see his legs from the Northam and they didn't move from the moment he hit the ground. In that case he blew up a good 90 seconds early. -

Granty's got some previous with Match Programmes, but he is a very busy chappy... You'll probably struggle to keep it to a sheet of A4, though that is the best option for simplicity, it doesn't even have to be in colour. Now we can start arguing about what should be on the cover... I say a massive photo of me ! Seriously though a picture of the Stadium (maybe with the statue) is probably the best bet, then we don't have warring egos (see my comments above ) and that's what it's all about really innit ? -
Oh lordy, all McGoldrick has shown this season is that he can't pass a ball without it bobbling along and 12/13ths of his goals are mis-hit. Don't get me started on what it shows about the CCC when he can get 13 in the first place just by ambling around scuffing things. Of the two I'd take Lallana any day, even though he's suffered more than most by being surrounded by mediocrity. He's the kind of player that can do things on the ball in tight spaces that others can't, and if he learns to play the right through ball at the right time instead of hanging onto it too long, he'll have cracked it. Kinda like Kenwyne needing to learn to be in the box when the ball got there in order to score goals (which is also a criticism of McGoldrick when he plays up front, just for the record). It's like saying Schneiderlin is a bad player. He clearly isn't, he's a great passer (who can't head for toffee), but he needs to be in a team that can support him by making space with the kind of runs McGoldrick doesn't often make. We have a lot of players who have potential and might be much more effective with some slightly better players around them - it only takes one or two to drag the whole lot down. Of course the other possibility is they just need more time or to play at a lower level to shine, and some are about to get the chance.

I think he's about Guthrie standard overall, though more skilful but less skilled at tackling. And Guthrie was on the bench for a team in the bottom 3 of the Prem last night. Probably best not to mention I thought he was cack for us

The email which nickh hasn't had says they're looking at charging a fiver for adults, which will go either to charity, Saints in the Community or SOSaints depending on the circumstances by then. I think it's pretty short notice to get a programme in place, though I'd be happy to provide an extensive list of my former clubs (lifted from a note I put on Facebook, cos yeah, damn I'm exciting). -
You obviously haven't seen the pictures at the start of the thread showing how many people stayed in the stands then.
-
So why is there someone on here claiming to be a Burnley fan who says different? I'm sure admins will have checked his IP location by now to see if he's genuine... Also, I was watching closely enough that i think I'd have seen a "partially smoking" smoke bomb thrown from the pitch...
-
Just for posterity, let us record that Setanta announced there were a whole 321 Skates in attendance. If Carlisle stay up and we play them midweek it'll be interesting to see how many we get.

Mike Jones - Saturday's ref to exagerate pitch invasion?

Not only that, but the linesman who gave it initially (despite McG not passing the ball) was stood more or less in line with the centre circle, then when he realised what was happening and that he'd screwed up, he snuck himself ten yards down the touchline to try and claim he'd given offside for McGoldrick's later pass to Euell (who was behind the ball and onside of the last defender - not to mention that the linesman wasn't even looking at the action by then as he was already flagging for the non-pass back up the pitch!). I wasn't too keen on the ref lecturing Burnley players for late fouls which he clearly hadn't seen, either, though if he'd actually seen more than one of the late challenges I'd have preferred it. -
There were all ages on the pitch, but there were plenty of people not behaving antagonistally to the away fans - I'd say the women and children weren't part of that, but I've already heard enough stories third-hand about chav kids with their dads egging them on in that mob to know better. It was given away by a bright yellow trail of smoke, not very difficult to follow really... ...I'm sure the CCTV footage will help sort out who should be getting locked up and who was just out there meandering around on the grass anyway, after all, the mob gathered in a spot where there are cameras from two stands and multiple angles, and there's probably a greater percentage of cameras pointing at the areas around away end than anywhere else in the ground too.

Well, that's an interesting take - firstly you've suggested UK policing is consistent in the first place, which is a pretty broad claim when there's plenty of conflicting evidence, secondly you've insinuated that free speech should be oppressed, thirdly you seem to be claiming that vocal abuse is worse than physical violence, and finally you also appear to be suggesting that protecting a minority group under attack from a larger violent group isn't an appropriate method of policing. Without getting into the rights and wrongs of their politics or how that's colouring your judgement of the actual policing in the instances you've given, isn't the point meant to be that they minimise disorder within the parameters of law enforcement?

I was at both - I should think it is becase the pitch invasion at Derby was unforseen and the police/stewards reacted to the situation, whereas on Saturday the police were clearly briefed to prevent a pitch invasion from the Northam (though comically not from 5 yards to the west of the Northam) and were unable to react to the actual events (invasion from Kingsland with about 50% of the initial crowd heading straight for the away fans) with any flexibility. The fact that I saw loads of people coming out of the Northam past the unmuzzled dogs anyway, and then they eventually just walked away to allow others on if they wished tells you how poorly they actually contained the crowd. It was pretty clear that pitch-based people were the antagonists in both situations though - until the smoke bomb came in at least - but there were people on both sides lobbing stuff. Interesting that the stewards at one point made a line on the halfway line, which was how they eventually cleared the pitch at the end of last season, but there were still people moving either side of them for a long while after and I think they may have given up on that method just before I left.
-
I'm with you on the pitch invasion, but lay off "doing skids", alright ? PS The smoke thing definitely came from the away end first, all I was doing for the 20 minutes after the pitch invasion was standing there watching all the nobbers on the pitch near the away fans and unless someone chucked it from off the pitch without lighting it first (I wouldn't put it past them), the first time the yellow smoke could be seen it came from the away end. The account from the Burnley fan also confirms the first smoke bomb came from their section (and that it was a Skate that did it, apparently).

I think in practise the guillotine for the FA/League accepting a result is 75 minutes of play. Before that it would be a replayed match, after that generally the score stands. Obviously there's some room for manoeuvre in extreme circumstances. That Mirror article is some really lazy, incorrect reporting, and no mistake. -

As I said, the stadium clock isn't the official time - also, the clock stops at 90:00 and always has done, so he couldn't have used that to time the additional minutes anyway. I set my alarm based on when the board was held up and then we made a substitution in injury time which should have added a further 30 seconds on top of the original 4. -

The scoreboard clock is usually pretty close, but the 4th official is supposed to hold the board up on 90 minutes. The only time they're likely not to do that is if there's a substitution already in progress. I'm not sure there's an official ruling in terms of IFAB interpretation and it's not in the Laws of the game, but it's been accepted practice for a few years now. And I've never seen the official hold up the board in the 88th or 89th minute, even according the scoreboard clock. I've seen it once or twice on 89:55 or thereabouts though, but then the scoreboard clock isn't the official time. -
The crowd pushing you from behind managed to steer you all the way across the pitch right in front of the away fans ? Seems rather unlikely. There was one smoke bomb, it was thrown back and forth a number of times, like the big metallic-looking sphere (of which I think there were two). I left the Northam a few minutes after the police cordon pushed the people on the pitch back about 6 yards and at that point it had been thrown 4 times in total and was back in amongst the Burnley fans again. And the police officer was right, if you weren't on the pitch, in fact, if you weren't on the pitch AND standing directly in front of the away fans, you weren't going to get hit by the missiles. There were plenty of people who were on the pitch nowhere near the away fans that managed to stay well away from all the trouble.
