  1. Doesn't quite scan though...
  4. Vardy does the most comical dives I've ever seen. Having seen the Long incident back since it was a penalty and he didn't even dive.
  5. I reckon you're getting one of those.
  6. Yeah, we're not going to do that. Kids ahoy. Isgrove won't be starting then...
  7. I was wondering!
  8. Well, we haven't sold out yet, so you lot will be in the mix tomorrow morning I guess. As for the politics, give it a rest.
  9. Yeah, you've completely misunderstood what happened when Austin came on, there.
  10. Cheat. I never had a loss of form, I always played at my absolute peak. Miss a chance? Will score another one later. It's all about confidence - which is always easier when you play at a lower level than you think you should... then again I was never a pro.
  11. Agreed, any criticism of Austin is from him looking ill-suited to something he probably shouldn't be being asked to do, and from the improvements in the fluidity of the team with him on the pitch today I think Puel has decided to find a way to play to his strengths when he's on the pitch - which I don't think anyone is expecting to be for all 90 minutes at the moment.
  12. He fell over a leg. On purpose.
  13. Indeed, but the point being made was that kids don't appreciate where we "usually" finish - but where we usually finish wasn't even in the Premier League within very recent memory, so compared to anything except a very short period in the early/mid 80s this is good.
  14. Not a bad shout either. Palace's team today was Steve Mandanda (G) 30 Joel Ward (D) 2 (45) James Tomkins (D) 5 Scott Dann (D) 6 Martin Kelly (D) 34 (85) Andros Townsend (M) 10 Wilfried Zaha (M) 11 (78 ) Joe Ledley (M) 16 James McArthur (M) 18 60 Jason Puncheon (M) 42 77 Christian Benteke (F) 17 71 Only Ward, Cabaye, Zaha and Ledley different from their League Cup team against Blackpool.
  15. The reason was because Austin started in the left wing position, and ran up the wing to pull the full back out wide, Redmond went into the space he created and received the ball, then ran into the left wing position as Austin went into the box for the cross. It worked REALLY well a couple of times. When the ball went down Tadic's side he also played as a conventional target man.
  16. To be fair he was up against Kyle Naughton second half, and he has been utterly stealing a living since he was at Spurs - we got three crosses into the box from that wing in the first two minutes of the second half alone.
  17. *from the Premier League - we managed one out of the Championship in 2008 as well. I'm also not sure they'll have forgotten us being in League One only 5 and a bit years ago - but appreciate your point about people just assuming we have some God-given right to win every game - though for 5 years we've won a LOT more than we've lost and we seem to have too many who just can't handle not being amazing every match.
  18. He was "a month away" a week ago. With a two week break after Leicester on Oct 2nd, he should be back for Burnley on Oct 16th, I can't see us casually popping him in for a debut at the San Siro the Thursday after as it might not be too good for squad morale. Unless of course he's bloody amazing in training, players have a habit of lumping it when the inevitable is staring them in the face. But I'd guess at Burnley.
  19. Doesn't count as it's not the full first team. Unless we win it of course, then it's the greatest competition ever.
  20. The issue is trying not to wear out the striker rotation so we have fresh players for West Ham - I think Long's still ahead of Rodriguez, and Austin and Redmond will definitely be in the squad so 60+ mins for Rodriguez with Olomola and Sims to give attacking options. Having just gone back through the thread it's not dissimilar to Globetrotter's team.
  21. v Blackpool, EFL Cup 2nd Round W 2-0 S Mandanda (G) J Tomkins (D) S Dann (D) P N'Diaye Souare (D) - well he won't be playing... M Kelly (D) Y Cabaye (M) A Townsend (M) J McArthur (M) J Mutch (M) J Puncheon (M) C Benteke (F) Subs: J Speroni (G), E Fryers (D), W Zaha (M), Lee Chung-Yong (M), H Boateng (M), C Wickham (F), K Anderson (F)
  22. I think the presence of Reed and Isgrove on the bench today will be a hint towards Wednesday's side. I'm going but I'd much rather we picked the kids with a couple of fringe starters who need a game and won't be involved against West Ham. So how about (back to 4-2-3-1 like the U23s have used a bit, as I can't really fit the players in any other way)... -------------McCarthy----------------- Martina--Yoshida--Stephens--Targett ----------Reed-------Clasie------------ -Ward-Prowse--Hesketh--Isgrove---- --------------Rodriguez---------------- Subs: Parkes(GK), Jones, McQueen, Sims, Davis, Johnson, Olomola
  23. Looking straight at it from Block 41 - he made sure he fell over the outstretched leg of the defender who hadn't played the ball and was impeding his ability to get the ball as the ball was running out of play, not sure if there was contact, but there doesn't need to be.
  24. He's fine sprinting 10 yards in the box, not so hot on chasing full-backs 30 yards and then running 50 to the opposing area. Great finisher, but don't expect him to do everything else. Not that there's anything wrong with that in many situations.
  25. ...worked very well. We wouldn't have created anywhere near as many chances without him... though at times he Fabrice Fernandesed us out of a number of other breakaway opportunities. And yeah, missed a couple of sitters, but it happens. The way Redmond and Austin worked together suggested some Austin-specific training happened late this week - Austin wasn't being asked to track back as much, and a few times he made an early run up the wing to create space for Redmond to get the ball behind him, and then Austin pulled away into the box to be in front of goal where he's of most use. Whether Austin has the legs to do that for an hour or so rather than just the last part of the game is the next question, but if we choose to use him as a late sub in all matches rather than a starter in either Prem or Europa, that could work too.
