    Claude Puel

About him being a world class Manager? LOL.
  2. Not hard to see why Bmth are good going forward. Players with pace, team that plays at a high tempo and looking to be direct. Brooks at a little over what we paid for Armstrong will be a better signing long term.
  3. Golden post IMO.
  4. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/mark-hughes-wolves-southampton-verdict-15217631 Hughes: "At the moment that little bit of luck is lacking. “The goals are a disappointment, clearly, but you can’t allow good players opportunities to get into key areas of the field by defending poorly.” Luck. LOL.
  5. Good of Redmond to be calling out slackers IMO. He has probably been our best player this season, unlike Cedric or the woeful Austin.

    Hughes OUT

Hey won't sack him, but its pretty clear we are going nowhere under Hughes and will be bottom 6 and in a repegation fight again - without question.
  7. http://sportwitness.co.uk/southampton-advanced-negotiations-new-head-scouting-counting-enormously-outlook/ Obviously need a replacement for Bill Green who sadly passed last year. Would imagine its quite a sought after job with a lot of interest so should be able to get someone of high calibre in what is a massive role, especially at a club like Saints where we cannot/will not buy ready made players. Be interesting to see if this happens.
  8. He was never interested in Saints, despite the rumours. All IMHO of course. Morph
  9. I agrewd that Puel had to go, as much because he had lost the fans as anything on the pitch. The atmosphere was terrible towards the end of the season. I missed one game on my ST (Palace) and think the last home goal I saw was the game VVD got injured in which was 21st January. Any Manager will find that hard to overcome. However, unlike Pellegrino and Hughes, he did have a clear style and was able to get the team playing a particular way quite quickly, which is usually the sign of a good Manager. Puel was certainly hamstrung with injuries and shambolic recruitment (or lack of) but in the end he had to go because of the feeling in the stadium. Problem wasn't removing him, it was the replacement.
  10. And last. And the one before that. Unlucky guy, must be a total coincidence!
  11. Clearly we need a quick and direct wide player. Thats the no1 requirement by an absolute mile. Shipping out Austin and replacing with a player who can run would be a bonus.
  12. Tadic?
  13. JWP shielding the defence?
  14. Nothing of note after todays game, where none of the decisions could be blamed on the ref. Instead it seemed to be set piece defending that was singled out.
  15. Liverpool could threaten that possession record you would think. 81% or somewhere near that. To think we finished ahead of them only 3 seasons ago! One side has improved massively and the other imploded.
  16. Thats such a ridiculously defensive lineup. Crazy that our squad only has two wingers. Clearly hoping to grab a 0-0 as nothing going forward on the bench due to Ings, Moi and Gabbi missing out.
  17. I just think his confidence is shot. Heard the other day on a podcast with the Notts County Physio that apparently in the PL players run the same distance in 90mins as about 5 years ago but the number of high intensity movements, sprints etc are far higher than even 5 years ago. When I heard that I actually thought of JWP, as his PL debut was roughly that amount of time ago, and yet even since then the game has got quicker. I'm just not sure he is physically a PL player, likewise someone like Austin, who just looks shattered and unfit after about 20mins.
  18. FAO Mosin - Please stop hijacking the thread talking about a different player, who has no relevance to this discussion. There is Redmond thread thats easy to find. Re the actual topic, what are your thoughts on the 5 points in the OP?
  19. Well, yeah because he is English, has loads of PL apps and seemingly Watford and Burnley wanted him in the summer, and may well still want him. We buy crap for decent cash so no reason for others not to.
  20. IMO JWP has gone backwards again so far this seaaon, and is probably as far away from being a regular starter as he ever has been. To me he looks like a player who needs a fresh challenge at a different club. 1. He has no actual position that he is selectable in, which is his main problem IMO. 2. He is one of the worst subs I can remember at Saints. You wouldnt bring him on when chasing a game and he is poor at protecting a lead. 3. His corners and wide free kicks are decent enough but not worth a place in the team alone. 4. He has the same weaknesses now as he did when he was 17: no pace, zero physical presence, always looks sideways before forward. 5. He is a player we could get decent money for and not miss at all. If another PL side would give us £15m then I would consider taking it, because he literally adds nothing at the moment, doesn't fit a 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 and its hard to ever seeing him kicking on, as so many have suggested he will.
  21. Our forwards without Ings look absolutely woeful. Imagine if we hadn't signed him! Should have let Long, Austin and Gabbi all go in the summer. But for this game I would do Long with Armstrong in behind.
  22. Ita fairly possible that when he was Stoke Manager Hughes thought Yoshida was always a weak link for Saints and he may have instructed his teams to target him. I think, and given Hughes summer comments, he just wants a more physical pairing.
  23. Was away so missed the Palace game. Last night it seemed to be mostly about the referee which is becoming something of a tired routine when we lose. Its so regular, its pathetic. Especially as it was a clear pen.

  25. 4/10 for me considering we havent played anyone good and had 3 home games that we have two points from. Will be bottom 6 for sure, deficiencies remain at both ends.
