    Injury Watch

Good point. Although largely down to bad luck, we have brought a little on ourselves. Austin was a very, very strange signing in my book. The fee might not have been big, but the wage certainly will be. I don't know who pushed that transfer through, but it must have caused a few ripples. I wonder if it was RK? If the decision wasn't universally supported, when he got injured soon after joining, there must have been some tension created there. You have to question the Boufal move a little as well. Making an injured player your record signing is bold to say the least. Perhaps its easy to say why not wait and sign him in January as you may lose out, the selling club may only want to sell in the summer or the price may go up, but do you really break your transfer record on someone that won't play for a while. Its tough to move clubs and move abroad, but to then have to start your Saints career from the injury table must have been very difficult. I forgot about Classie being injured. I can't believe we signed him, never mind signed him injured. In his case was he really the only/best choice out there. RK or whoever must have thought he was worth the wait. They were wrong. You could also point to offering JRod a five year deal before he had even started making his way back from his serious injury. Very brave decision that hasn't worked out yet, although could the club really risk him leaving on a free? They have paid him handsomely for very little return, hoping that he will come good and that investment would pay off. It hasn't yet, but if the WBA £15m move is even remotely true then it would have been the right decision. We will see. Returning to your point, we say our transfer dealings involve extremely comprehensive research about character etc., yet we do seem to overlook the obvious - are they fit? There will be counter arguments I am sure, but availability is the best type of ability.
  3. No better club to go to as a striker to improve your reputation. You are right going to Chelsea would seem a strange move whist Costa is there. We would actually be the ideal choice as he could effectively be first choice right from the off.
  4. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, but there seems very little interest from Premiership sides. The likes of Sunderland and Palace seem desperate to sign new players yet they don't seem to be linked with him. Maybe its his wages or maybe they just don't think he's not worth the risk.
  5. that is a lot of wedge. You'd need to be very sure he is the real deal before spending that kind of money on a player plying his trade in Scotland. That kind of money counts us out.
  6. Cook has called fans out, suggesting that they come down to the training ground rather than just abuse at him at the **** park after yet another defeat.
  7. It's £26 actually.
  8. the football business values the customers that provide them with the most income.
  9. he basically says that the unhappiness expressed by fans made him select a formation he didn't want to. Congratulations to Tis. Hopefully he can keep that run going and put another side ahead of the skates.
  10. since when did the clubs ability to afford things come into their decision making process? It's a football business not a football club. How can we Maximise revenue is the question they ask themselves not what can we do for fans. If the club thought they could get away with charging £26 for a membership in league 1 they would.
  11. We already had a system whereby tickets are applied to your customer number and priority could be given to those with the most games applied to that number. The membership doesn't make that system better it simply enables people to cheat it (jump the queue) by paying a fee. If I have been to ten names, why should someone with a membership who has been to five get priority? It's a con. It's a ticket tax and yes, I know, if I don't like it I can lump it.
  12. just to be clear I said limited, not useless. When the side is weakened he doesn't stand out at all. He doesn't get hold of a game and lead by example, he just disappears into the mediocrity. When in a stronger side we carry him. As I said, he's a decent tidy footballer, but we should be able to do much much better. RK bought Morgan. Why didn't he come back for,Clasie?
  13. No one signs much in January. Good point, but it depends what you regard as being the problems. Lightweight midfield and underperforming keeper are two issues for, example in addition to the CB and striker issues
  14. meh. Perfect eduction for being a saints fan in my book.
  15. He gives the ball away a lot. I think fans see some talent and he is at least forward thinking, which is why he gets an easier ride than Classie and JWP. He has youth on his side thankfully.
  16. first game back to be fair. He looked equally woeful in that quarter final game at Sheff United, but again I think it was a first game. I'm not convinced he will come good, but He needs a run of games.
  17. Doubt Crul will settle for a place on the bench. Whoever I have seen him he has looked too draw. Is he? We have invested a huge amount in Forster, so he will go no where, but I'd be tempted to trade.
  18. A very good point, but sadly the FA seems to have no power whatsoever over the Premier league.
  19. there is of course McCarthy, who I haven't seen much of, but it feels like a weak batch of keepers to me. Forster needs to get his confidence back and McCarthy his fitness and then suddenly it will look much better. I suggested we sign Gordon three years ago, but that ship has sailed.
  20. we have far too many lightweight, slow and small midfielders. The game may have changed a great deal in recent years, but we don't win any headers, tackles or second balls. Because of that we do so much running after opponents. Id sell Classie if we got an offer. He is so limited. Reed is very similar. Both are neat and tidy and decent footballers, but if we want to progress then we need better players than them. I guess they and Hojbjerg are reserves behind Romeu, Davis and JWP, but apart from Romeu no one offers any physical presence at all. Poor squad balance.
  21. When did it become acceptable to charge £15 for a reserve team game? I can understand some changes, but I don't know why we are giving Lewis game time. He is not good enough yet and uncles s Forster is carrying a knock then he should start. Perhaps the other changes were forced although Redmond and Tadic looked pretty sharp to me. If Yoshida was injured why was he on the bench? I last saw Isgrove against Sheff United in that terrible cup game and he was woeful. He looked equally out of his depth tonight. It wasn't just that he was terribly lightweight, did nothing with and without the ball, he looked out on his feet after just 50 minutes. He stood around for about ten minutes before being subbed and that's not good enough. I can't get that Sheffield game out of my head and the CB partnership tonight offered equal measures of ineptnous. It's harsh to jump Gardos back first game, but Stephens had a poor night. More worrying for me is that midfield. Classie and Hojbjerg is £20m of spending and so far it doesn't look value. Classie is simply not good enough. Hojbjerg tries hard, but will need to improve a lot to justify the fee. Reed and Classie in the same side is folly.
  22. The extended break before Spurs didn't help us much thou...
  23. agreed. Which hopefully means no one will bother next season and they then scrap it. I ****ing hate this pay a premium, jump the queue bull****.
  24. they say the first five are in the head...so...I will leave that hanging.
  25. Personally I don't think it will be a factor at all. Stevens was good enough in the semi, so if push comes to shove he will be given his head in the final too. Any signing will be looked at in terms of a multi year contract. How he can help the club over an extended period not one game
