  1. That's the thing about the biggest clubs in the world. They always seem to get hold of these really good players. I mean, what's that about?
  2. I think him playing fantasy furniture did for him probably more than anything he did with players, which in general he did an excellent job. And playing fantasy football in his bulls hi tting interviews with his acolytes in the Daily Mail and Sky Sports News wouldn't have helped.
  3. Bang on, my friend.
  4. Cortese didn't take the first bid for Oxo? Wow. That's some simply breathtaking negotiation skills. I wonder if any other chairmen have ever been bold enough to do that? The single most important factor in us achieving a huge fee for him was the fact we were loaded.
  5. Last summer Cortese was swatting away a barrage of multi million pound bids for our players like King Kong swatting away bi - planes. Okay, more like Diddy Kong.
  6. You expect us to finish 5th, 6th or maybe 7th (probably 6th on those points). What happens if we keep all the players but are 12th at Christmas? What will you be saying then? Sack the manager? Because 12th at Christmas would be effing pathetic wouldn't it? How badly do you want this 6th place? Because remember you're the new improved super ambitious Franko, aren't you? So. 12th at Christmas. What then?
  7. And, any evidence on this then? What ridiculous offer, for who, from who and when? Whenever you like.
  8. We're getting offers for our players "purely because" our financial director put in the public domain about our financial situation. Not Adam Lallana being in the PFA team of the year, then? Not MP being a highly effective manager? Not Shaw being a sensational young player? "Purely because" of a few words from a financial director. As ever, you are utterly full of shi t.
  9. Absolutely this. Luckily the major mistake has now been resolved. Just a weeping bunch of toddlers in the fanbase to deal with really.
  10. Where has anyone from SFC said "we need to sell to balance the books"? You like to pompously demand evidence from other posters all the time, so come on then. Show me. Secondly, it's you that don't understand, so I will explain it nice. and. slow. Liverpool would be publicly bidding for Adam Lallana even if Atilla the sodding Hun was our chairman.
  11. Anyone who doesn't think we paid big to climb out of those two leagues needs to have a look at Burnley. The net spend thing is bo lloc ks because many other clubs can't afford to spend all their transfer income on new players like we could. Because of the bankrolling bit.
  12. So journalists writing up some comments from our FD is the reason Liverpool want to buy Adam Lallana? Right-o. And our FD has not said anything about needing to sell to balance the books. As a keen scholar of official club statements you could dig one out to prove otherwise. Or are you, gosh, believing journalists when it suits you, yet again? Funny, ain't it.
  13. It's only different clubs because of, well, promotion and relegation. The principle is exactly the same. We bankrolled our way out of two divisions, we snatch Jay Rod and Clyne and now other clubs could be doing the same to us.
  14. a) It's jack sh it to do with the FD's statement and everything to do with the fact that Liverpool and Man U want Shaw and Lallana. b) What "ridiculously low amounts" are these then? Funny how Captain "I believe nothing in the papers, me" seems so happy to swallow whole whatever finger in the air monopoly money a newspaper prints. You have no idea whatsoever on who has bid what.
  15. I love Alp's failsafe "hindsight" defence.
  16. This. Nothing more than a comparison of what might be happening now versus what might be happening if something slightly different was happening. I have no doubt selected forum dins will describe it as "a good read".
  17. We're playing our first league game of next season on July 17th? Who's it against?
  18. Don't blame them. Massive gamble for them - Poch has no Champions League pedigree at all. He's been a solid mid table manager in two countries, excluding the blip half season at the bottom of La Liga. Not quite the golden ticket to the top four appointment yer average Spurs fan is looking for.
  19. Pretty sure it's zero. All the games called off due to snow/ice have been called off because of road/pedestrian safety.
  20. This makes the comments RK was supposed to have said to the awards do even more strange. If we were starting from zero in Feb/March with a new manufacturer, then we are 't tied in to having a Cortese - abortion plain red special after all. A real pity for the dinlows on here that think plain Swindon style red kit is somehow futuristic and exciting but there you go.
  21. Thanks for correcting me, but my post was a reference to the belief of many on here that if Cortese was still here no one or no thing would ever leave and everything would be lovely forever.
  22. If Cortese was still here Adidas would never have left.
  23. Awww. That is quite sweet really.
  24. WE CAN AFFORD to pay Lallana and Shaw £100k a week on five year contracts can we? And WE CAN AFFORD to then peg other players salaries to that benchmark, including the inevitable request from a new £15m centre forward to be paid as much as the 19 year old left back. I'm glad you put WE CAN AFFORD it in capitals, otherwise I'd think you were talking utter s hi t.
  25. Stupid suggestions. We have a duty to be blooding young English managerial talent, like Joe Royle.
