  1. Hammond nearly scores.
  2. Oops, Schneiderlin nearly sent off. Pardew needs that like a third armpit.
  3. Thanks for that TDD. Good bit of psychology.
  4. Harding scores 1-0
  5. Perhaps we'll remember that statement at the end of the game.
  6. Connolly nearly in, tackled.
  7. Off to the Second Half now, peeps.

  11. Tranmere have conceded more goals than anyone else in League One this season.
  12. Well the balance of possession seems to be getting better. Did I hear that Les Parry, as ex-physio, has run on the pitch to treat a player..? No doubt, will pass on some strategy.
  13. But in what terms..?
  14. Saints have been slightly asleep so far, but are waking up. Tranmere are apparently belying their league position. How unsurprising is that..?

    Horizon

I appreciate what you say CEC, and almost entirely agree. In a sense, the present day science and technology revolution has become niched to the point that a proper heavyweight programme will only manage a tiny audience. Which of course, as you know, means that if the programme is dumbed down, then it will possibly generate a wider audience. This was exhibited at its worst IMO, by the so-called science series SPACE, with actor Sam Neill as presenter. It wasn't his fault that the most technical phrase he uttered during the entire series was that a black hole was gravity gone mad. It's as dumbed down as an information series has got, that I have had the misfortune to view, and happily, programmes have got better. But it is still difficult to tell the story of science breakthroughs, or theories, in a way that the average person can understand and be entertained by. However, the subject of Over-population is a relatively simple one. Too many people on the planet, with depleting resources to sustain them with. Now Horizon could have gone the CGI route, but they didn't. This was an opportunity to interview the real experts, as Horizon used to, of old. And they did. And because we were being informed by people who know, this made the validity of the programme so much more. Over-population is a hideous subject. It use to be taboo and almost is to this day, but Horizon ventured to talk about it. It would be nice if we did them a favour and actually watched it.
  16. Yes indeed. Please someone remind me what the plusses were in signing Darren Kenton a few years back. And I don't want to see the one word - COVER.
  17. Your memory is playing tricks. Sturrock got Plymouth Argyle promoted from League Two in 2002 and they were promoted again in 2004, to the Championship, shortly after he joined us, but the Championship promotion is very much considered his doing. That's why we signed him, and apparently WGS recommended him to Lowe, as well. Tbh, if he had stayed where he was, and we hadn't f***** about with his career, then he'd possibly still be doing OK at Argyle now. Once again, Saints were under-ambitious in seeking Sturrock out, but he gave a reasonable account of himself in the short time he was with us. Some very good victories were managed under his tenure, at the end of the 2003-04 season. Whippings to Man City 3-1 away at Eastlands, and Wolves 4-1 away at Moulineux were of his doing. Credit where it is due.
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8407119.stm Looks like F1 is taking a leaf out of MotoGP's book by making the incentive to win all the more rewarding. From next season, the points will be: 1st-25 2nd-20 3rd-15 4th-10 5th-8 6th-6 7th-5 8th-3 9th-2 10th-1 For those that don't know, MotoGP has run like this, for many years upto now: 1st 25 2nd 20 3rd 16 4th 13 5th 11 6th 10 7th 9 8th 8 9th 7 10th 6 11th 5 12th 4 13th 3 14th 2 15th 1 Now you may think MotoGP is over generous by giving out points all the way down the field, leaving only a few riders pointless after a race. But the system works quite well, because almost nobody is totally out of the running. And that increases the competition to keep trying to better your opponents. Overtaking in MotoGP is relatively easy, when compared to F1, so there is that incentive to try for one place higher, all the time. Personally, I think F1 should increase the points output down the field further, so that teams don't get entirely left behind if they have a run of unusually bad performances. Btw, note the gap between the top 6 points placings in MotoGP. 5 points, then 4, 3, 2, 1 which then runs on to 15th place.
  19. Nor did I. Btw, don't be sad.
  20. It's all relative really, isn't it..? In truth, there is isn't a truly bad car manufactured anymore, and believe me, I can think of loads from the past, and the worst of them was NOT the Morris Marina or Ital. Today, there are cars that are better than others, but let's not run away with ourselves - practically every car on the market today is a pretty well designed car, even if some of them are made by Peugeot. Or Hyundai. Or Kia. Or Ford.
  21. Ah well, now you're talking. Cadwell Park is an absolutely cracking circuit. As is Oulton Park, Knockhill and various others. Isle Of Man anyone..? They're all wonderful cicuits, but they don't cut the mustard, safety or grandstand wise. But I entirely concur with your less than serious post. It would be excellent to see a Grand Prix at one of those old circuits. Love the take-off in the first pic. He obviously tried too, and succeeded very well. In the second pic, the rider is trying NOT to take off.
  22. Can you not even get near to mentioning the word, tier..?
  23. I see the Beeb have now got hold of the story. The bit I don't like is the opening statement. It says: Southampton have unveiled plans to upgrade their training ground at Marchwood to Premier League standard... Now, hang on Auntie, I believe they were supposed to be of Premier League standard. They're just going to be that much better by the start of next season. Some clubs don't have facilities at all, let alone the standard of facilities Saints currently have. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/8404293.stm But let's face it. If Markus reckons they need improving, who of us is going to be of a contrary opinion..? Not me.

    Horizon

For many years, Horizon, the UK flagship popular science programme has steadily been dumbing down its output, IMO. Filling, what used to be expert talking heads and demonstrations, packed with knowledge and understanding, with CGI and short cut editing. But the edition I saw on over-population, was a return to the old Horizon tradition. Not a single shred of CGI was to be seen. In fact, the only graph we, the viewer, were asked to take any notice of, was drawn on paper in front of us. The reason this was so, was because the question of over-population is at the very heart of resource depletion, human influenced climate change, insufficient food and water supply, and a host of other issues, that mankind has been at the root of, and will face us in the future, and is quite easy to understand. So good was this programme, because it illustrated the challenges facing mankind, and did it in such an easily accessible and very well explained way, in the best traditions of Horizon, that if you haven't already seen it, I ask you to watch it too. Please stick with it. Whether you have considered this question or not, it is certainly worth an hour of your time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00pdjmk/Horizon_20092010_How_Many_People_Can_Live_on_Planet_Earth/
  25. Didn't change any title. There were two. One was more relevant [see, I'm learning HS] to the subject matter, than the other.
