Not sure about that, but I see what you mean. Saints play entertaining football, and even if a game ends in 0-0, there's quality on show. It could be this that attracts the TV companies. Mind you, it never seems to attract ITV. Well, even that won't matter come next August.
-
Well there you go then. Even worse. Nothing to get excited about. We might not even get a capacity crowd anyway, if it's on TV. No wonder some tiny clubs ask for the matches to be played at the opposition's ground, or a neutral venue.
-
And we know we haven't. Now if we'd been drawn against Man U at OT...?
-
Well yes, I'm not disputing that. The main point was about the split receipts.
-
You know that. I know that. We've ALWAYS known that. But back in 2003, Rupert apparently didn't know that. And it appears he still doesn't know that.
-
A fact I think many people are forgetting is that FA Cup receipts are still divided 50-50 between the clubs involved. It's why little non-league teams want Away fixtures at places like OT. If Saints have a capacity crowd of 32,683, they will still only get the receipts for half of that total. So, little or no more money received than from a league fixture. On the bright side, if we had drawn Hartlepool or Histon Whatever, about 3 people would have turned up. And half of that doesn't even make a good night out at the pub.

The Great in Britain is due to it being a combination of England, Scotland, Wales and many surrounding islands, e.g. the IOW. A bit like Greater London or Manchester, only bigger.
-
Err... 2 games over 3 days, I think. Or do you not include Sunday..? Tallish order though.

I certainly don't mean to sound patronising. I think the nature of science and technology in the modern era has become rather less understandable than the more nut and bolty technology of many years ago. It means that many people have given up trying to understand science and technology. But I appreciate many still do keep apace.

Got home from my London trip and fell into the armchair. Watched a recording of tonight's [well last night's as I write] Star Trek Voyager. I don't remember ST-V being so consistently good from when it was first transmitted well over a decade ago. I've been recording them from Virgin every evening, and once I've taken the bloody endless adverts out, they are a pretty fun way to waste 45 mins. By comparison, ST - The Next Generation views like dry sh!te, and is extremely wooden and badly written. Perhaps I just didn't appreciate ST-V enough the first time round. And despite Virgin's eternal entreaties to get me to watch The Sarah Conner Chronicles, and plastering the logo over ST-V episodes - I couldn't be less interested.

Having also studied as an scientist, earth sciences in my case, I walked past the Geographical Society exhibition, and wished very much that I'd gone in there. I gave the Japan Car exhibiton a miss. I also appreciate that the Science Museum is very clearly aiming much of its product at the children of nowadays. The children of my era would have had their fathers fill their enthusiasm by describing the dry exhibits..! But I think some dads nowadays, are a little bit more into their mobile phones, and little else, when it comes to science and technology. I should also add that, amongst some mediocrity, the actual Apollo 10 Command Module was a trance moment for me, and a lifesize copy of a Lunar Module stood out too. Finally working out how the sleeve valves of a Bristol Centaurus aero engine worked was a high point, and looking upon a few of IK Brunel designs [and his father Marc's ship block production line] just added to my admiration of a industrial design genius. Despite the above, I still left the place slightly disappointed. If anyone really wants to try a museum for the day, they could go next door to the Natural History museum [as Al De Man suggests], which is always a joy; or get real enjoyment, as I did the last time I went, at the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich. Remember MOG wrote about Nelson's tunic with the fatal musketball shot through it. It's there..! There is also the added bonus of the Royal Obsevatory at the top of the hill there, with John Harrison's marine chronometers from H1 to H5. These are real jewels of design and can't fail to excite anyone with an appreciation for such delicate but strong timekeepers. Which reminds me, back at the Science museum - Foucault's Pendulum. I bored my companion within 5 seconds of starting to explain it. Well I think it's interesting.

Visited London today, and popped in the Science Museum. Have to say it was a bit of a disappointment, compared to visits in the past. Perhaps I'm not as goggle eyed as I used to be, but I could swear it was better only 15 years ago, when I last visited. There's so much that has been changed to accomodate people with little interest in science, that IMO, it has slightly blown it for the science and technology buff. A lot of it has become abstract and interactive in a very basic way. Even the simulators weren't simulating anything real, like air or space flight. Perhaps it's just me. The GB Black Arrow rocket was a delight though, and the Flight area was its old self, so I could touch base there. Had a debate with someone over the thickness of the metal skin of a Boeing 747 [there is a section of the fuselage there]. 16 gauge we thought. Anybody know the truth..?

Excellent bit of fakery. You can see a quality change from real life to computer graphic. It's extremely well done though, and hats off to the people who did it. They have a future in computer animation, IMO.

Help with my 'Puter freezing a resetting itself
St Landrew replied to Secret Site Agent's topic in Technology Chat
At this time of year, often the house heating gets ramped up, and if your PC is sited over or near a hot radiator, it almost certainly is overheating. Just move it away and the problem will cease as soon as it started. If the problem persists, do as Saint Stevo suggests. You'll get a speed bonus to soften the pain in the arse. Remember to save your important files, IE favourites and Outlook .pst files if you have any. If you still get freezing problems, it may well be a PSU, RAM problem [although usually accompanied by error window], HDD or graphics card. If it is HDD, then Win XP will suggest your drive is unstable. If the OS boots up as if nothing has happened it is almost certainly Graphics card or PSU. Substitute another graphics card if you have one, and if the problem goes away, you know what you have got. If it doesn't, you only have one other dodgy component. BTW, in my experience it is hardly ever the motherboard when it comes to a freezing OS..! But it could happen. There you go... instant PC engineer. -
Steady Alpine. I live in Lordswood. And there's nothing 'nuff said about it.

Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Backs Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Unlike Um Pahars, I never really thought seriously about compiling a greatest Saints team before, because whenever I thought about it, I've immediately come up against the restriction that is I have to leave out the players I've not seen play, and before that has been unacceptable. But of course we can do this. I'm going to have huge trouble with the midfield [btw, we'll do it like we're doing the defence, i.e. LM, 2 CMs and RM in 3 polls], and the strikers. I mean, Saints have always been an attack minded team, during my era, and most of the notable players have been in midfield and attack. It's going to kill me leaving out some of my favourite players because there are better players above them. You have been warned. And so have I. -
Came across this before using a Toshiba laptop. The problem resolved itself eventually, but not before a lot of faffing around, including an OS re-install, and it was intermittent as well. As SS says, use a USB mouse. It solves the problem.

Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Backs Poll
St Landrew replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Re: leg pull - Yes, I know, but I'm just answering the question for others too. The subs bench is certainly in my mind and, as Saints have had enough managers in the last 50 years in which to construct a poll, I see no reason why not. It might be obvious to some, but then we'd have fun seeing them in order of preference. Hell, why not a board of directors poll too..! -

Sorry Um. The software doesn't allow me to restrict you to 2 votes, as far as I'm aware. -

Saints Greatest XI - Best Centre Backs Poll

You will be seen. -
Once again the vote is open for the greatest Saints players. I think we all appreciate that we can only vote for the players we've actually seen play. So when we vote for the greatest RB, I won't be expecting any nominations/votes for Charles Burgess Fry, or Alf Ramsey whether they really were the greatest of not. As someone pointed out - we are debating the greatest quality players to grace a Saints shirt in the last 50 years. We have to accept that, with the greatest respect to the above mentioned players, and Ted Bates, Charlie Wayman, etc..., unless we all wake our grandparents/fathers out of their snoozes, they aren't going to get a look in. But what we are doing is still valid and fun. So... just to be clear. You are voting for 2 players in this poll, using 2 votes. You are not voting for them as a pairing, but rather as 2 best quality individual players. There are 10 players to vote for; the maximum the software allows. They were chosen because they received more nominations than the remaining players. Some people will say, where's so-n-so..? Well pick your next favourite. I believe this list covers all the very best CBs within our era, that it can. EDIT: Just to recap, as before but with the obvious change: The top 2 voted for players will become the A team CBs, and the next 2 most voted for players will become the B team CBs. The Sub's bench we'll nominate and vote for after the teams have been decided.
