  1. Thank you for your LB nominations peeps. This thread is now closed.
  2. If you want a poll about Saints Cult Heroes then by all means start one. However, we are talking about footballing excellence here, and as much as I like Francis Benali, there are several [or substitute many] Saints LBs in front of him on the quality front. However, it looks like he'll be included merely by the amount of nominations he's received.
  3. There you go: The Championship Monday 24 November 12:00pm - 1:00pm ITV4 Robbie Earle reviews all the action from the Coca-Cola Championship and Leagues One and Two. Commentary by Clive Tyldesley and Trevor Harris, and reports from Dave Beckett, Tom Skippings and Richard Henwood. VIDEO Plus+: 43161415 Subtitled, Widescreen
  4. I'm not sure, but if you look at the online Radio Times, I think you'll find that ITV's Championship is repeated on ITV4 at some point this week.
  5. I've been using Safari V3.2, and very good it is too. Occasionally, I come up against non-support of Safari, and then I just fire up clunky and slow IE7 and get what I want, relatively fuss-free. But here's a good 'un from Saints TV. Note the blurb under - browser is not supported:
  6. Well.. true. But what about if it is a load of rubbish, and that Pompey are on their way to an eventual new stadium, and a better future..? Wouldn't you just feel worse..? Especially as the crowd from down the other end of the M27 would come on here and gloat, wall to wall. No.. I can wait for confirmation from elsewhere.
  7. Another NOTW report. Do I believe it..? Do I care..?
  8. Peeps, do remember that this is The News OF The World. If it gets published by a respectable newspaper, with a reputation for responsible reporting, then I'll believe it.
  9. The truth is, there is not a single candidate who can step in and unite the fans, boardroom, club. The only chance of that happening is if someone or a group comes to buy the club out with serious money. That way we start off with a clean slate - no grudges, no backstabbing, and look forward to a brighter future. The only other way of uniting the fans is for the current regime to stay in place and, over the medium term, Saints win promotion back to the Premiership, and surpass the heights of 5 years ago. Then, I believe, people will finally let Rupert off the hook, wherein the errors, he and his board made, back then is corrected. Would we forgive him the intervening years of mediocrity..? Yes, I would, because he will have tried his best. Could be a long wait though.
  10. Works for me. I could have been spared the tuneless singing though..!
  11. I agree. I think people are confusing JP being out of his depth with a lack of familiarity with Championship football requirements, plus the undoubted fact that he has to play so many young and inexperienced footballers. But at least the team will grow together, if we can hang onto them. And that's the biggest IF of all. I think Jan Poortvliet IS a good coach, and if given enough time and proper support from the Boardroom, i.e. they don't sell his better players, he'll prove it.
  12. For those people with absolutely no idea of who Steve Mills was, here's a Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Mills
  13. OK, thanks for that people. The results of the Poll have been noted. The upcoming threads for outfield positions will have the previous results displayed [just look if you don't know what I mean].
  14. Well, when the RB thread starts up someone could nominate CB Fry, from that famous Southern League era, and [sir] Alf Ramsey from the 1940s.
  15. By mutual consent. Please... no new manager backlash next Saturday. Ta.
  16. Shame about Norwich winning 2-1 at Forest. But we shouldn't be worried about them. It's our form that we can do something about. Onto Tuesday and Plymouth Argyle.
  17. Talking about inconsistency; this Southampton is suffering from very bad home form, and pretty good form away. If you take a look at the table tonight you'll notice that Sheffield Utd have identical away form [apart from goals scored] with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 4 defeats. Fair enough, but their home form is the complete reverse of ours, with 5 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss. And the are 4th in the table. The evidence couldn't really be much clearer. 18. Henry V [1989]. Recorded for later, while I was out this afternoon. Remember seeing this Kenneth Branagh film at the cinema when it came out. I was into any Shakespeare plays that I could find to watch. This didn't disappoint in the slightest. IMO, superior to the much lauded Laurence Olivier version from 1946, as it is much more naturally delivered, and conveys the sheer boredom, despair and fear of battle. As with all Shakespeare, quite demanding on the viewer, but worth it. And once again of course, Henry's army leaves through the gate at Southampton.
  19. Intentional faux pas.
  20. Dennis Hollywood was playing for Saints as I began my era of watching them in '66. A good solid, hard as nails LB, and pretty reliable too. You'll have to appreciate that, as a kid back then, I used to see the team as a team and didn't really think of individuals that stood out, unless they were Ron Davies, Chivers, Channon, or Paine. LBs don't tend to stand out anyway. Just a tiny bit short of David Peach, Mark Dennis, and Wayne Bridge in my book.
  21. Hard luck mate. Just missed out. Went to a fan from Shirley. The prize was 2 tickets to the Plymouth game anyway, so you wouldn't have been able to collect.
  22. I wouldn't even begin to predict what Saints will get in points over the next 5 games. One thing I'm sure of though; it'll be between 15 and 0. These sort of posts should be posted once a level of consistency is reached.
  23. Good luck Ericofarabia, with the Radio Hampshire golden goal time. Apparently, you predicted 13 minutes, and it was 14. I think you're in with an excellent shout.
  24. Poor old Will Cope; his voice started to break as the result got to him. Excellent performance, and strangely, I was semi-confident of Saints once the first goal went in. This is the sort of performance the youngsters are capable of, as long as the silly mistakes are cut out. Let's not go overboard on one result, but this is a significant one. Well done Jan and the players, for getting the tactics dead right.
  25. Listening to Radio Hampshire, and not watching. So what happened..?
