http://www.cowesharbourweather.com/webcam.aspx Follow the instructions and after a wee while you'll be able to look through the webcam at the Solent. I use it to gain some idea of sailing conditions in the next hour or so. I won't be going for the next few days, that's for sure. And before you ask, the camera is mounted on top of the Calshot Sailing Club house.

Everything reason is a philosophical man-made one. The true meaning of life is the survival of the species, nothing more. What we make of it beyond that is entirely what we want it to be. If you want to do the Victorian progress thing, then do so. If you want to minimise your impact on the planet, then do that. I don't buy all that bettering yourself to the best you can, because we all fall short of that every time we're a tiny bit selfish, or a tiny bit greedy, or we pick up a beer, or we take the rise out of someone who can't defend themselves. Life is what people make it, and nothing more. The pursuit of happiness is a good one, and it doesn't have much to do with accumulating money and property. It's mostly how we feel within ourselves.

McGoldrick has been doing this sort of thing for a couple of seasons in the reserves. I get the feeling he hasn't got himself a decent chance in the first team because he hasn't had enough experience. Bit of a Catch-22 really.

I have to say that SCW was an appointment at the wrong time for Saints. Football is such a conservative sport, and has until recently had that, you can't teach us anything new, attitude. The thing is, if you're not making the most of what you have, then it's time to try something else. Unfortunately, the only thing more conservative than football itself are the supporters who follow it. I was very much on unstable ground in my pro opinion of SCW when he was appointed, especially when he had Harry Redknapp as Team Manager. Redknapp is definitely one of the older school IMO. SCW never stood a chance, and anyway, it was too radical an appointment at the time. Rupert often steps over the boundaries. Whiich is why he has made quite a few big errors. But I have a grudging respect for his lack of respect for the old ways, and can sometimes see what he tries to do, even if I suspect he's doing it just to make money for the least cash input. And if this latest experiment of Dutch coaches and Total Football gets Saints climbing the ladder of success, I'll put a hat on and then doff it in his direction. I might even save another for Michael Wilde, even if he would barely deserve it.

Hate..? No, never have. The man has made mistakes, otherwise Saints wouldn't find themselves in their present position. They'ed still be adding to their continuous run in the Top league. Although I don't like to add to the blame culture, I live in it, and so someone has to take the can for dropping out of the Premiership. Clearly, that's Rupert's baby. Time to think of the future though.

We live in a world of cynicism. It used to be the province of the jaded and political. Now it seems cynicism is so cool people will try to debunk anything that smacks of purity. The U.S. moon landings were aimed by the Whiite House as a political statement to the rest of the world that Western Democracy [and especially America] was more powerful than the Communist Eastern bloc. When the media and populaced interest had died, the Apollo Project were well into the scientific missions. Excellent work was done, and there are still many years of research to come out of the rock and soil samples brought back. Nowadays, the origins of the Moon and the Earth are far clearer than they were prior to the Apollo Project, and as a direct result of the missions. In all honesty, if you look hard enough, you'll find overwhelming evidence that the Apollo missions took place. It should take you at least 5 minutes to do so.

Well of course one of the arts of motor racing is to break as late as you dare and as heavily as you dare. It means that Lewis Hamilton is one of the hardest drivers on tyres, but by heaven he uses them wisely it appears. After all, he does win a lot. The same is said of Valentino Rossi. He is the absolute master of being able to break as late as it is physically possible and still get around a corner tidily and with momentum maintained. That's a real skill, and whether people like it ir not, Lewis Hamilton has it in spades as well. He does have the advantage of 4 wheels over Rossi's 2 though. And his vehicle won't fall over if he makes a mistake. Therefore he can make his tyres smoke if it is important enough.

I used to bottle up all the emotion. Nowadays I let it out. Believe me, you're the better for it. Anyone who can't be moved by events is missing out on experience.

Considering that the Apollo missions were being tracked by many nations on Earth through their radio telescope tracking stations, I would have thought that little floater was drowned years ago. Just as nowadays, the USA population had a 10 minute attention span [well 10 seconds nowadays, I suspect] in the early 1970's. Budget cuts were due to many factors: Vietnam War financing, Poverty, Falling interest, etc... And the Republican Presidency [Nixon] were never overly keen because Space missions didn't directly make money in those days. EDIT: Capricorn One is just a fun idea. Not too bad a film either.

Exactly. I read that article too. Lots of people mistakenly think that the Earth was thought to be flat until only in the last 100 or so years. In truth, it's been the considered consensus for 1000's of years that the Earth is a geiod, i.e. round. The Egyptians and Arabs knew. The funny thing is, I've read a few people actually take Terry Pratchett's Discworld as the truth. Elephants and Turtle, the whole 9 yards.

Crikey, that one is so old it needed digging up. However, if you want to know the amount of time until sunset, just hold you fist out at arms length into the western horizon, and count how many are required until they reach the base of the sun. The amount of fists you count is the same in hours. True..!
-
Al, don't bother. It's trendy to debunk things like the Moon landings. I, and a lot of other quite level headed people, lived through them. There's nothing to believe. It simply happened. They'ed rather believe in the Loch Ness Monster.

Didn't do any sailing at all and missed the entire week. Think I'm losing my touch.
-
Hmm, noticed that. Perhaps they'll be available later.

Don't you mean Yah Boo Sucks ..?

Perhaps I should add is that Alpine makes a good point here. There will be no room for name calling and malicious language on this forum. Already there have been the odd incident of it, and it won't help the poster's concerned in any way, other than to get them to receive infractions and bans. Don't even try to slip an insult in under the wire at quiet moments either and think you've got away with it. Before you type your insult just stop yourself. Because of you don't you'll only end up worse off than before you started.
-
I'll explain. You're quite a prolific and knowledgable poster. People take notice of you. Those posts you have pointed to are being made by poster who are describing a complex situation with one line, and are therefore being completely dismissed [take note those people]. But take heart, Alpine. Your doubts have been noted. Let's see what the next couple of games bring, and then perhaps you can write with a little more or less conviction.
-
I don't think Skip is suggesting he knows any better than yourself Alpine. He's just suggesting people take their chins off the floor with only one game of the season gone. That's all. Let's keep these things in perspective, just as we should have if the Lads had won or drawn. Another game on tuesday, and another on saturday. I imagine Derby, Burnley, etc... supporters are also not seeing things terribly clearly this evening either. EDIT: I wonder if Sheffield Utd supporters are reacting the same way..? Extremely similar result.
-
Already have it. It would just be nice to see an end to ITV's [lack of] coverage.
-
I hear some supporters are leaving before the credits roll on this game. Still don't understand that behaviour.
-
That's a little damning. Cardiff are a good team in this division. They may not be the most consistent, as of last season, but they could beat anybody. And remember, this is at Ninian Park. I'd wouldn't even be terribly concerned if we were playing at home. At the moment, that is. To be honest, even if we lose today, we've played very well up until now.
-
Just one more season of endless adverts and blink-and-you-miss-it coverage. I'm almost starting to celebrate the changeover already.
-
Same here. Especially when Cope mentions Cardiff's McCormack. I suddenly think we're in attack, and then realise it isn't McGoldrick.
-
That explains that then. Another invisible season to endure.
