I would like to thank the league secretary for his incredibly well timed phone call to Steve to tell him the game was off. You have no idea of the potential horrors that you missed as a result of that phone call. Only Mr Grant has of the possible impact playing football may have had upon me if the game had gone ahead.

Glad it's not just me. Been having problems with my router for a couple of weeks so when I got a new router I was a bit miffed when I was still having problems. When I was playing earlier on I kept missing half of each game from waiting to connect. Hopefully it should smooth itself out in the next few days... That said though, the game's much better than I'd hoped for. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as COD4, but it's at least on a par.

I got a free copy from work yesterday, but didn't get a chance to play it last night. First impressions, anyone?

They didn't put a new image on the HDD or anything, did they? My wifi is playing up on my Presario V6133eu and I've seen all the stuff about the extended warranty - I'm just not sure if I should go and get a new HDD first to back everything up before sending it off.

He can dig his heels in all it wants. If they don't offer something like a heavily discounted repair or replacement he can go to court, thanks to the sale of goods act. I know from experience of working at PCW when I was a student that no member of staff knows a thing about it. As long as you've done your homework, know your stautory rights and have patience, you're on to a winner.

Except Basset's comments aren't necessarily defamatory. All we have to go on is someone making a summary of the comments - not the direct quotes themselves. And, if they were only made last night means Lowe will have something like three years to take any action, should he so choose. The only people he has taken to court so far for defamation is The Times for comments which were without doubt libellous.

I thought I was missing something, as this post is exactly what I made of the whole thing and I just don't fully understand the scale of the reaction on here.

It's about politics.

He was ill for the Preston game.

I've oft wondered what it would be like (speedwise) using a (relatively) new machine with an old OS.

I thought we signed him on a four-year deal?

Something about the graphics not being quite as sharp, I think I read.

Actually one other brilliant aside - Redknapp is due to collect the Freedom of Portsmouth on Tuesday. Ha ha.

Definitely. F*cking hilarious.

We wouldn't come out of it with a clean slate and the people most likely to be running it would still be Rupert Lowe and Michael Wilde.

What could possibly be better for the club than a 15 point deduction, relegation to League One and the loss of what few assets it has?

Firstly, if it's slander (as it would be with a fan saying something at a match) it's much harder to prove that it happened. Secondly, abuse is not defamation. Calling a referee/manager a wánker is not going to greatly "lower his reputation in the eyes of right minded people" which the law states is defamation. Also as a profession, referees' reputations are fairly low anyway, so it can be quite hard to lower it much more! Fair comment is the same regardless of who you are. What matters is the likelihood you're going to get caught if you say something defamatory.

The only real defences available to someone who posts defamatory statements on a forum like this are: Justification Opinion Offer of amends In defamation cases, it is up to the accused to prove his defence is water tight. All the claimant has to do is say "You've defamed me". They don't have to prove anything (in the UK, in the rest of the world the onus is on the plaintiff). Justification is the most difficult defence as you need to have hard evidence to back up what you've said. You can only use opinion as a defence if the statement is clearly labelled as such (something along the lines of "I think that..." or "In my opinion") and there is no inference that the statement is fact. Offer of amends is basically where you admit you've defamed them, apologise, offer them a right of reply (which you should always do anyway, before publishing something that is possibly defamatory) and then offer them something like a cash sum. In affect it's an out-of-court settlement. There are defences such as absolute and qualified privilege but the likely of either of those being available in circumstances such as posting on a forum are incredibly slim - they are for things like court cases and parliamentary debates. There is a cap on the amount that can be paid in court to a plaintiff in defamation (£250,000) but there is no limit on the amount of costs that can be awarded. Also, this bit is a slightly grey area but worth mentioning all the same: if you make a defamatory comment the publishers (ie the forum owners) are also liable, as is anyone who quotes you, as they have in fact repeated the statement. Right, I best get back to doing some work!

Hey, I never passed comment on it. I just said where he got it from!

He got it from here: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/2008/10/24/stern-john-loaned/

Wall-e. I didn't cry. Honest.

However, Rasiak and Saganowski didn't really work well together, and Saga and Jones were better than Rasiak and Jones. Then when Jones left, Saga and John weren't exactly an ideal partnership, so Burley seemed to flick between BWP and Saga to partner John. While on the whole I agree with you that Burley's treatment of Rasiak and Saganowski was pretty shocking, I think there was at least see some vague level of reason behind the idea.

Resistance 2, Red Alert 3 (assuming it's on PC) of Fallout 3 are the ones that appeal to me the most. That said, I did get to play on Guitar Hero World Tour a few weeks ago and the drums and mic really do add something new to it - and they feel much better quality than the Rock Band gear too.
