Reading statements like the one below, I would quake in my boots if I was part of the trust: Appleton says he does not think a fans group taking control of the club would compromise the amount he has to spend in the transfer market. "I'd like to think from the administrator's point of view, Trevor has put together the same business module for all parties interested in buying the club and that includes the Trust," said Appleton. "So I would hope my transfer budget would not be compromised if they took over the club."

I agree! But wouldn't that also be an argument against slapping children?

Define abuse in this context, please...

We've changed our mind about PompeyScot so now we don't like him!

Ha, you beat me to it! (pun intended)

Here I was, foolishly hoping we'd get to page 2 without proving Godwin's Law, but with the finish line in sight, we fell short :-/ Do you approve this far reaching autonomy in other situation - violence between spouses for instance? If she's a bit thick or stubborn you could beat some sense into her, and that would never be the state's business... No? So it's only the children that are bereft of any kind of basic rights or protection against parents, poor buggers...

In principle I agree that you should choose for yourself how to bring up your children, but it should also be done within a frame of what your society finds acceptable... So of course the state as a representative of society has a role to play!

Illegal in Denmark since 1996 and I wholeheartedly support your views. There's so much more to parenting than excerting control over your children...

For what mind-numbingly little it's worth I do agree with you (btw, weren't we praising that PompeyScot on here only last week during Crab Lungs' expedition?!)

I'm working at a small organisation where we have two people as cleaning staff - one is born in London and is a Spurs fan, the other, I recently discovered, is a Scotsman following Hibs! We have some quite interesting discussions about similarities between Rangers (or "Sevco 5088 Ltd" as he insists on calling them ) and Pompey. He claims that most of the media in Scotland is in bed with either Celtic or Rangers and in true Neil Allenesque manner they have been protecting the club by sitting on the Rangers story for more than a year without breaking it - out of fear from losing their best customers... He also claims that one of the key people at SFA (can't remember the name) who will help decide the fate of Rangers, is a former Rangers executive taking part in the illegal slush fund. And when I meekly offered that Ally McCoist at least issued a public apology (as opposed to Appy) he nearly tore my head off - he pointed out that McCoist wants public access to the votes for expelling Rangers from the SPL, so that Rangers thugs can go on a Pompey-like media supported crusade against those who voted against them. I think I managed to convince him that Pompey are worse than Sevco, but he refuses the idea that the SFA have been brave or resolute...

I think people in here have a rather different take on the concept of "pompey legends" - very few of them have ever played football

Isn't the problem the wording of the FL's stipulation? 3. Pay all football creditors in full, unless mutually acceptable compromise agreements are put in place. Obviously they didn't want a situation where their rules prevented sensible agreements, so thay had to add that line to the "pay what you owe" condition. As when bargaining with bottle genies and other riddlers, the FL should have been more careful and added more stopgaps: 3. Pay all football creditors in full, unless mutually acceptable compromise agreements not achieved through public vilification and simple bullying tactics are put in place. Edit: obviously I forgot to add a clause about promising future payments that Chinny never intends to honour...

I was never hit as a child and I would never do it to my children - but then again that's probably a cultural thing. Over here it's a big no-no even for our parents generation...

You're playing a dangerous game there using concepts such as 'logic' and 'reality'. TIODM is an alternate reality where logic is defied on a daily basis

I'll take the kinky nurse Lego costume. Uncomfortable as hell (and probably not my size), but as a Dane, it's genetically impossible to decline Lego on offer...

I'm not quite sure either that I understand this urgent need to express indifference towards Team GB's football team - it seems to be a trend on most footy sites... Why is it so important to tell everyone else that this team is unimportant?

Fans near Lyngby can see Saints U18 participate in a tournament in the coming days ( 31/7-4/8 ) - http://lyngby-boldklub.dk/Nyheder/A-Truppen/Akademi-chef%3A_Southampton_gl%E6der_sig_til_GF_Cuppen/ (Danish text). Schedule here: http://lyngby-boldklub.dk/GF_Cup/2012/U19/ -
It's true that expectations affect people's opinion, but it's not obvious that it works like you describe. Look for instance at confirmation bias - the notion that we are more likely to interpret something so it fits with our prior understanding - if you think Guly is crap, then you'll be more inclined to confirm that stance when seeing him play: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias

Oh, forgot to tell: some bloke named Oko-something-wo borrowed it. He said you could have it back on August 11th!

"Wave muhammad" https://twitter.com/#!/search/wave%20muhammad Apart from that a very good show! As stated numerous times, quite a change from the perfect facade put up in Beijing - that's not what England is about! Whether you like the Mr. Bean part or not, it's just perfectly British. You could well feel proud of having your history and culture showcased for the rest of the world in such a manner!

Harding has been a super player for us. First sign(ing) of a new age, and he has been part of instilling a winning culture in this club in his own unspectacular way. As far as I remember, there has been no drama from Harding in his time here (bar fights, sulking over not being picked for matches, greedy agent constantly stirring up rumours etc.), only 100% commitment when he has been playing. He deserves more playing time, and if we don't intend to use him, he should go to an ambitious champ club like Forest. If they set up a balanced team and he gets a fair chance, he could be quite a force for them... In case he stays, I'm quite happy to have him as backup and as motivator in training etc
