I'm disappointed too, but let me put to you a related scenario. You have ten quid in your pocket. "Hurrah", you say, "I do have some money, so let's spend it". You wander down this new bar, full of posh totty you couldn't afford, where it buys you one drink. You could have walked a bit further and had a full evening in another better value bar. But it's not just that. You spend your money and then remember that the leccy bill is due at the end of the week and you haven't budgeted for it. Your East End and Leicester mates just say sod the leccy board, my mate in Portsmouth never pays his bill...

We all will. Jesus, spare us from the wrist-slitters. How about we all just wait and see eh?

In Italy you don't tip. Well, you can, but it's not expected.

I thought this board was famed for its grammar: see me.

Bet you missed one. Count them again. Pity I'm not there really as I could probably wind up Di Canio with my italian - fascista di merda..

Incidentally cervinia starts at 2000m+ and goes up to 3500m and normally starts in November (this year 29th October). I keep an eye on snow conditions from the beginning of October: http://www.cervinia.it/pages/WEBCAM_e_en/575

I live in the area that contains Cervinia and would say it's the best bet for that time of year from all my local resorts, although I've skied at a number of others locally depending on the snow during a particular season. April can be quite warm but at the altitude you're talking about it doesn't pay to take the mountain casually/ ASIS is right about layering, which can mean getting stuff you can use in other circumstances: a bitterly cold night watching Saints at Middlesborough or the like. TKMaxx is a good call, and I've bought decent stuff at Lidl and Aldi (goggles, gloves, sunnies, jacket). Decent proper ski socks are a must. Take some lessons or you'll be floundering. Before I ever went skiing (many years ago) I did a dry ski slope course which saved me learning the basics at resort prices and meant I joined people who'd already been a week, and thus had much more fun. Be careful: it's addictive. I now live in the mountains [and have a season pass for the whole area], not co-incidentally because I'm a skier!

I've only been once and that was for the testimonial for alan Knight (IIRC). Great experience: lumps of concrete chucked over the wall and kept in for ages. AK, bless 'im, was deeply embarassed and came over personally to thank us.

Interesting post by a Leiceter fan on the Guardian's football league blog:

On the way / just got home from the game thread...
suewhistle replied to saintscottofthenortham's topic in The Saints
Good summary from what I've read, plus other days we might get the rub of the officials' decisions. We know the club are working on things with what seems a strange concept to some people, a budget, so what do we reckon then, a couple of Premiership loans or some completely unexpected players from the continent? -
Sod! I'm off to footie training, let's hope that makes a difference after DubaiP's disastrous start.;-) At least I'll avoid the nun's and the wrist-slitters saying "told you we needed another centre-back". Laters.

Thanks for that link. I only noticed it in the last few minutes but thank goodness they played the goals (and the saves) again. Impressive stuff, and you can see why we liberated Stephens from Plymouth. In other football related news super{as in age not ability}-veteran suewhistle is going to our 5th pre-season training session of the week this afternoon. I'm going to wear my Saints shirt as a tribute to the kids.

Kevin Moore I believe was 30 when he joined us to play in the top division for the first time.

He's back! Can't be bothered to read it though...

Just got in from a festival for mountain wines in the main square: from 12 to 6 I've done the whites. Shower and eats and back for the reds Come on you red and whites!!!

I have it too, but then I'm a girly (well, actually a slightly butch and sporty one). Perhaps lots of fans have different sorts of fun on a Saturday night: what an intrigueing thought....

The bit I liked was this: Wenger please note.

Was there a (just) back from the match thread for Barnsley?
suewhistle replied to The9's topic in The Saints
Good summary The9, and just as exciting as you make out. Connolly is class and if only his legs were a few years younger... but his brain lacks nothing! If we get anybody young, strong and quick I think it would be Lambert to make way though, good as he has been for us. Still a great back-up though. -
Yes, I always felt a bit sorry for him. But yesterday was delightful, and to think we were able to bring on De Ridder and Schneiderlin. Barnsley were poor, but Leeds were one of those teams that people thought could be up there and even if they end up only a mid-table side it was a reasonable test. We'll see with the Ipswichs and WHU of this league, but now I feel we can beat anyone even if we'll obviously lose a few, and playing decent football to do it.

Well, that's my last game until Christmas but some delightful football, retention of the ball, passing and movement off the ball even if many moves didn't quite come off. Never worried until the last few minutes and I'd already thought we needed to get that second to kill the game. The Chaplow red I'd like to see again as I thought he'd done a big swing and cleared the ball and got the guy on the follow through. I think I'm revising my view of where we'll finish, perhaps even confident now that we'll do well. Oh, and to all those people complaining about the songs at home last week I thought the variety was ok, and pretty good volume too; I helped as much as I could but as I was driving i was sober....

I'm up North visiting friends, will they sell on the day or do I go into the Barnsley stand?

Yes, I might be visiting various friends up there (they don't know it yet!).
