Just got back from a weekend away, had the game recorded on tv (oh the luxuries of being premier league!) and... What a f u cking game! I watched it with a Southampton convert American friend who knows his 'soccer' and we were both extremely impressed. I saw Heart. Professionalism. Skill. Enthusiasm. The last 10 minutes were amazing as we pinned them back in their own half. I saw a team playing 'the Southampton way'. I'd seen it in league one and the championship, but to see it in the premier league in the very first game, away from home against the champions... Oh yes. Oh, and Rickie, GET IN THERE MY SON!!!! Just carry on where you left off mate! The only dampener was finding out about Tony Scott halfway through watching the game, an absolute tragedy. R.I.P and C.O.Y.R

Did anyone like the dandy more than the beano? I can't remember anyone. I used to get bought both, always read the dandy second. Then asked for the transformers comic instead a few years later...

Exactly! This place can be a bubble sometimes. A bubble with a black cloud inside it.

Perhaps, but I do seem to remember the season going rather well two seasons ago...

Thanks for posting that, it's a really good article. I am really happy to see Matt doing something in football beyond punditry, he has a unique insight and perspective as a sublimely talented player who hated the confines of traditional coaching and training. And let's face it, it can't hurt to try something different given the lack of English talent coming through. I look forward to seeing how this goes.

First tonight, plans for the giant Fred Dineage shaped floating stadium complex have been put on hold with the news of Portpin's withdrawal of their Portsmouth bid, meanwhile Tesco have issued a statement confirming their interest in the underwater monkey chicken petting zoo should liquidation occur.

****ing classic. I nearly died laughing reading that. Quote of the century!

TBH : "In end I guess Harvey Dent speak the true, You die a hero, (nervous laugh) or live long enough to see yourself become villain. (strokes wad of cash under the table)"

Mustapha Dumbuya. That is all.

"The hosts scored twice in each half to inflict a heavy scoreline on Pompey, who were skippered by Sam Magri. Mustapha Dumbuya was the most eye-catching of the Blues players on display, yet it was a night to forget for all concerned, including around 400 away followers." Mustapha Dumbuya? I thought that was a joke name made up by one of you lot. If Pompey end up with Mustapha Dumbaya I might explode.
