This. I think the problem is that the qualities and cohesion he brings to the side are subtle things. He doesn't do the spectacular, but he brings others into the game and does provide assists and goals. Probably too subtle for some. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

A current England striker who should have been nowhere near the squad. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

But that doesn't matter! We have to go into meltdown because they've spent more than us!!!!! Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk -

I've lost count of how many times this argument has come round. More than with any other player I can think of, he generates such vitriolic views. It seems to be an accepted truism that he brings nothing to the team, can only pass sideways and backwards, is slow, etc, etc. I really do wonder how many of his critics have just read this so many times (from the same posters) that they assume it must be true, without ever having really watched his play. He's better than any other player at the club at linking play, bringing the allegedly flair players into the game, recycling the ball when options aren't open. If you watch him, you'll see he's always making himself available to keep a move going. He works as hard as anyone in defence, rarely gives the ball away, gets into advanced positions and can shoot. It was his shot that hit the post for our Celta Viga winner. In each friendly he's improved the team when he came on and I hope he starts on Sunday.n Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

You seriously think you could replace him for £10m? It constantly amazes me that he has so many detractors who can't see what he brings to the team. An attacking three of JWP, Elyounoussi and Armstrong/Redmond could be very effective. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

I'll decide whether they've bought well once the games start. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk -

If you've done the stadium tour, you'll know that the backs screen for Sky interviews has no Virgin logos. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Do you think we could get an upgrade on Long, Gabbiadini, Gallagher or Austin for £10-15m? Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Ludicrous. I still think he can be one of our more effective midfielders this season. There is a lot more to him than dead ball situations. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Carrillo? (Sorry Lighthouse, beat me to it. But great minds....) Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk -
Yes, as I said, recruitment has gone badly wrong. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Wages? And he's done little since 15/16. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk -
I'll accept that recruitment a d coaching have gone badly wrong in the last season or two. No excuses for the coaching. Let's hope Sparky can do it. Recruitment of the sort of targets we have is getting tougher. We used to pick up players under the radar, but they've all got agents now and plenty of greed. As soon as we show interest, they get touted round clubs with more money. And it wasn't a joke - just realistic. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Those two wouldn't come, we couldn't afford the transfer fees and the unjustified wages they'd demand would blow our business model apart. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

This. Judging success on the basis of net spend and thinking football is about star players rather than teams, team spirit and coaching the best out of players is becoming the norm. All encouraged by prima donna players and their agents, and of course the media. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Lemina hasn't shown he's worth a stating place yet. We need midfielders who will work hard. And a don't agree about Charlie. Yes, put it on a plate for him and most of the time he'll score, but otherwise he's too much of a passenger. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Like Hughes managed to instill with us at the end of last season? Why do you think we won't still have that? Or are you basing your comment on fairly meaningless friendlies with key players missing? Or permanently embedded opinion? Just possibly, having played for their status and wages at the end of last season, complacency could set in, but I can't see MH allowing that. He commented that we need some real games now. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
