It is a good idea but I think one problem in getting the unemployed to do things like litter-picking is that it makes current litter-pickers redundant. So all you end up doing is lowering the wage of the worst jobs. In principle it's a good idea, if they can find a way for it to work.

like Corp Ho, I'm far from being an expert on these sort of things but the important words in this are vying, could, suggest, fringes, hints. That report tells us nothing. My reporter mate always says that if the story says "insider/source said" it is usually just made up.

Fair Trade, Organic, Eco-Friendly or Price
aintforever replied to Nineteen Canteen's topic in The Lounge
I think governments should ensure that all products are fair trade to be honest. -
It is a sad state of affairs that all we have is a choice between a disfunctional Labour party with their one eyed Scottish idiot and Cameron's soggy biscuit brigade. I generally side towards Labour because i believe more in what they are supposed to stand for, but with them you get obscene hand outs to dole bludgers and benefit cheats. With the torys you dont get that but you get a bunch of toffs royally screwing over anyone who is not rich. We are ****ed either way.

If this Al Faraj bloke is a billionare don't you think he would have come out with some proof by now? After the first Arab episode all this uncertainty in the press is the last thing the pompey players and fans need. He could put a stop to it all in an instant by simply giving the press the information on his money/companies/assets etc IF he is a billionare. The fact that he s allowing all this negative press continue should be ringing big alarm bells IMO.
-
It all appears to me that Pompey are just fire-fighting their debts, it wouldn't surprise me if this new arab is just as skint as the last one and has just secured a loan against future parachute payments and has taken a punt on them somehow staying up. Either that or he is just a front for some dirty money. I find it way too bizarre to believe that he could be a billionare but no one can find any info about him. Even reclusive billionare's leave a trail, they would be on a companies board somewhere, or someone would have sold them a mega-yacht.

You're probably right, it just seems a daft waste of money, it hasn't stopped any of the numerous wars we've been dragged into and as soon as any country starts chucking nukes around the World's over anyway so I can't see them ever being used by anyone. The only danger I can see is if a terrorist islamic group get hold of some, and they would not give a stuff about any deterrent. With the state of our finances I would rather take the gamble and not spend the cash.
-
But surely even having an few old nukes is a deterant? They may or may not work properly and the might not be in operation all the time - but it would be one hell of a gamble for any country to attack us while they are there.

Why has no one been on the moon since 1972?

Naa, only the Yanks are dumb enough to spend billions visiting a useless lump of rock. -
I think a fairer comparison would be how Pearson did with Leicester in this league. I remember the "anyone can get a team with money promoted out of League 1" statements that were held against Pearson last year. Will be interesting to see how our "anyone" does this and next season.

So there is still plenty scientists do not know about the moon then - I thought the reason no one has been back for 3 decades is because they know everything there is to know about it? -

What, the same advances that should make repeating what was done 30 years ago easy and way more affordable? -

It is a bit weird how they are just starting to look for water on the moon by shooting probes into it, you would have thought they would have looked 30 years ago when you had men up there driving buggies around and sticking flags in stuff. -
How is debt caused by banks a Socialist debt?

Where do you expect Saints to finish this season?
aintforever replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
It's a long shot but play-offs are certainly achievable. It will need championship form but we have the best keeper, a strong defence, our strikers are scoring and Hammond is immense in midfield. The important thing is we have strength in depth which will be important when injuries and suspensions kick in towards the end of the season, we don't have to catch Leeds or Charlton, we just have to catch Swindon in 6th place. -
I agree, I hate benefit cheats with a passion. A tax system weighted in favour of lower paid jobs would go along way to get people back to work. I agree with the tory's stance on benefits, there are way too many people sponging.
-
Of course, but surely now is the current climate to push it in that direction and not make life harder for the low paid?
-
Don't be daft. My point is that with the current financial problems where people are struggling to get by, it makes sense to shift the burden of tax towards the higher end, and the Tories traditionally have not favored that.
-
Someone else, in this current climate there will be plenty of people willing and able to do the same job - even if heavily taxed.
-
The Torys have always favored the wealthy, Labour have traditionally taxed higher earners more. Labour are a mess but I really fear for the country under the conservatives.
-
Of course they do, but I think they should pay more than what they currently do. And I think the last thing we need is a Tory government making sure the rich get off as lightly as possible at the expense of the poor.
-
That's exactly why they should be taxed more in this current climate IMO.
-
I think that's one of the main things wrong with society today - people judge success by how much money they can make, not by how much they contribute to society. All this "I worked hard for my fortune" stuff is just ******, there are plenty of people who work just as hard for poor money. A nurse who earns a pitance can work just as hard as a banker who buys and sells a few shares and makes his bank a fortune, and contributes a hell of a lot more to society than making some greedy organisation richer. I earn half decent money, doing something I enjoy which I studied hard for at Uni, but to say I work harder than my chippy mate just because I earn more is complete ******. It's also arrogant in the extreme to suggest these disgusting bankers work harder than some kid getting shot at in Afganistan. I refuse to vote Labour because of the way they lied about going to war in Iraq, and they are a mess. But I think at this present time the very worst thing this country needs is a Tory government. Right now is exactly the time when the rich should contribute a hell of a lot more than they do to try and sort the country out.

I think FA would expect all stadia to at least have a roof, you can't expect to win a World Cup bid if one of your stadiums consists of a half built Fratton Park and a **** off great big temporary scaffolding stand, where people pay £60 a go to get ****ed on by the rain.
-
Of course it's relevant, they either have to remove a roof and build a temporary second tier on top then revert it backor leave enough space around the ground to build a temporary stand the size on one end of Elland Road. Of course it's achievable but I would suspect it would be more cost effective to just build a 40,000 seater.
