  1. This is getting ridiculous! Yes we were relegated during his first season but hes then spent 12 years as manager taking us to Wembley three time including the win in 76. He took us to runners up spot in the old First Division and signed players like KK (then European Footballer of the Year) along with countless other household international names and turned us into a team to be reckoned with. But you want to concentrate on his first season. Priceless! I do remember Ted Bates. He was manager when I first started watching Saints in the mid 50`s. He was a great, great man but the best times we had were under McMenemy
  2. I understand what you are saying but surely the reason that there wasn`t so much on outcry was because in the 70`s the difference between the First and Second Divisions was much less than it is now. Sure teams wanted to be in the top division but was`t perceived as a matter of life and death the way that is now.
  3. The situation is very different now. Can you honestly compare the old First Division with the Premiership? The amount of money available now is so much compared with the 70`s that the Prem is seen, rightly or wrongly, as "The Promised Land" - the only place to be.
  4. I`ve just heard that longlifesaint is scratching around to put together a consortium to raise the pound.
  5. Unfortunate!!?? What an understatement! The relegation is the cause of our current woes. If we had not been relegated - the overspend would not have happened - the gamble to get back to "The Promised Land". As I have said on another thread many people are to blame for our downfall, which began in 2003, but Lowe and Wilde have to take most of the blame. I do blame Lowe for relegation and for installing the Total Football Revolution, which has been a roaring sucess hasn`t it?
  6. I strongly suspect that the administrators are professional and experienced enough to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff.
  7. Perhaps they`re dead!
  8. I think that she indicated that they expected there to be a core of serious bidders. A lot won`t make it to the starting line.
  9. Woman heading the admin company said this on Radio Hampshire 30mins ago

  11. Just caught end of this. She said now 34 enquiries. Had meeting with one serious contender this afternoon. All very positive. Wants deal done sooner rather than later.
  12. Firstly, I was listening to the interview and if I remember it correctly, it was Stewart Dennis who told a caller that Crouch had put £50,000 into the fund. Crouch didn`t mention at any time any money that he had put into the club apart from saying that he had lost a lot of money (rumoured £1.9M) but that that didn`t matter - it was all about saving Saints. Secondly, you conveniently forget what McMenemy did for this club during his 12 years as Manager before he left for Sunderland. 3 Wembley appearances (inc FA Cup win), runners up spot in old Div One, signing European Player of the Year etc. He gave us things beyond our wildest dreams and as far as I am concerned deserves better than the vitriol that some on here aim at him. Thirdly, was Crouches £2m offer before or after he lost his (rumoured) £1.9M. Who paid for the Ted Bates statue after the original debacle? Some on here seem very bitter and twisted. So much so that they need Pantomime villains - be it Crouch and McMenemy or Lowe and Wilde. The reasons for our demise are many and the blame lies with everyone concerned. It`s just the proportion of blame attached to each party that is debatable.
  13. Our first child - a daughter, was born 4 days after the 1976 Cup Final. What a week that was!! I started taking her to the Dell just after Heysel when we had qualified for Europe but couldn`t play because English teams were banned. Her first game (I think) was the game against Liverpool in the replacement "Super Cup", so 1985/6? She still has her ST -at the moment!!
  14. I know that this is all conlecture but surely our current plight is due to being relegated. Had we not been relegated then things would have been very different. I honestly cannot see how anyone can pile ALL of the blame onto the monkeys that ran the zoo while Rupes was not around. Had we not been relegated those monkeys would probably not have been there.
  15. The Admins Lawyer (Mike Fiddy?) was on Radio Solent this morning and he was pretty adamant that the rules worked in our favour and that there would be no points reduction. Hope he`s right!
  16. They think it`s all over! It is now!
  17. I look at this as encouraging. It was always said on here that any prospective buyers worth their salt wouldn`t let anything leak out! Over to you Trousers for some more stream references!!
  18. Kerry Katona specials?

  20. Is it me or is this just a collection of random words?
