I seem to have forgotten his numerous successes. Could you just run them past me again? Many Thanks.

Perhaps they will appoint Glen Hoddle!

I am not sure that it makes him a crap manager but it would seem to indicate that he can only get success with lots of money. When he left West Ham they had one of the biggest wage bills in the PL. By all accounts he has left Poopey in a similar position. His time at Saints would appear to indicate that his management skills are less when he has a much reduced budget to work with. Does this make him a good manager or a crap one? There are any number of managers who have moderate success without spending 6m - 12m (and accompanying wages) on players.

Quite right. ANY manager would, and you can`t blame them for doing so. It is the job of the Chairman/Board to control the Managers spending and release the cash at the RIGHT time. Rupert just didn`t seem to want to do this for the Managers (for 1st team strengthening), although he did spend a lot of money on peripherals. Simply, relegation is the cause of our current financial plight and there is a school of thought that Lowe is to blame.

Some will say that Harry spends money like water (if not controlled) to achieve some success, but that Rupert did not spend enough, when he should have done, (after F.A. Cup Final) to ensure the we not only stayed in the PL, but to move us up to the much vaunted "Next Level".Unfortunately this led to relegation, which was the cause of our money problems. In other words a manager (esp H) will just keep spending as long as he is being fed money, but the Chairman has to know when to release money in a "speculate to accumulate" sort of way.

Interesting. Are you saying, therefore, that Harry is the equal of GH?

Probably leaving Poopey with an unsustainably high wage bill (as he did at West Ham) after paying big transfer fees for some ordinary players (Nugent 6m??). It will be interesting to see what happens when the transfer window opens in January. Yes, they have had some measure of success, but so did Leeds Utd.

When Saggychops was in Portugal at the end of last week, he hinted that he was going to try and hi-jack Beckhams move to Italy. Poopey fans must have been very happy. Pity that he meant that he wanted him at Spuds, because he must have known that he was going to WHL even then! These things don`t happen overnight.

Oh! And of course the infamous remarks re:- " wonderful radio station, world class catering, and top-class academy".

"We have the strongest squad that we have ever had" - at the beginning of the relegation season.

Sorry? God knows that I am not a HR fan or a Skate but the "laughing stock" that has won the F.A. Cup, qualified for Europe and are now regularly a middling PL team? As much as I detest the mercenary git, he has to take some credit for where Poopey are now.
-
What is your opinion on why Spuds in their hour of need didn`t ask your "Hero" Glen Hoddle to save them?
-
But Poopey is his "Spiritual Home"! Oh well it is nearly Halloween. He has found somewhere else to haunt.
-
Is he going to unmask Rupert as a crooked fairground owner??
-
He sounded like Kerry Katona on "Good Morning".

Another top rider has quit English Speedway. Great shame and bad for the sport. Always enjoyed watching Crumpy. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12268_4374611,00.html

The Last Time you Thought Britain was GREAT
miserableoldgit replied to JohnnyFartPants's topic in The Muppet Show
I tend to think that Britain is great when seeing the staggering beauty that abounds in it. We have some of the most beautiful countryside, coastlines, downland and architecture in the world. The "real" British people (not based on race or religion etc) are the most friendly and tolerant on earth. All of this makes Britain "Great". What spoils it though is the cheapening of values, the lack of discipline and respect and the selfish, "F*** You" society that has developed in recent years. It will all, sadly, end in tears. -
Yeah. I have been trying to keep this quiet but I support Saints! How strange is that??

I had the very same experience. I stood for quite a while in front of that display case, lost in my thoughts and imagining what it must have been like on that momentous day in 1805. As you say, a humbling experience.

Nelson has always been a particular hero of mine. He was a far from perfect human being. He was a particularly vain person who treated his devoted wife Fanny very badly for example. But he was single-minded when it came to doing his duty and was very good at inspiring loyalty from even the humblest seaman and the captains serving with him (his "Band of Brothers"). At the time of Trafalgar he was in very poor health. He was virtually blind, had very bad dental problems etc but he still went out and did his duty. This puts not going into work because of a cold into perspective!! It is impossible to over-estimate the importance of what he achieved at Trafalgar. It stopped Napoleon invading England, virtually killed off Spain as a world power, and made Britain rulers of the sea for more than 100 years. For all of these reasons and more he should be remembered and revered as a true English hero more than he is. The National Maritime Museum at Greenwich has a Nelson Room containing many relics, including the tunic and stockings that he was wearing when he was fatally wounded. Well worth a visit.
