What, apart from the £10,000 odd that was raised for the RBL the first time the club did it? Was that not useful? Did it not help the RBL, without any cost to the organisation itself? Oh, and by the way, one of the shirt auction winners in 2006 was a serving member of the forces, who lost a limb in service of his country, and he seemed to think the whole thing was a wonderful idea. Not really sure, therefore, why you have such a negative view of the idea. And in case you're wondering, I buy a poppy every year.

Any chance that the club will resurrect the poppy shirts this year? I was lucky enough to be part of the first 'cohort' of winners when I picked up Marian's shirt, and I am certain that a lot of money was raised for the Royal British Legion Benevolent Fund. Perhaps the Cup tie against Bristol Rovers would be the most appropriate game to wear the shirts as it is closest to Rememberance Sunday. Perhaps somebody who has connections with the club would be good enough to mention it?

Best chant of the day from the Northam, about 3 minutes from the end: "We're not pointless anymore" Very funny.

My niece and nephew were going to travel down to SMS with me today for their first Saints game, but a dose of the sniffles means they won't be able to and neither will I. Would anybody be able to buy me 2 programmes and send them up to Kent? I will of course refund in full plus postage and a little extra for your troubles. If any kind Saint out there could help it would be hugely appreciated. Will accept first offer of help on this thread to allow others to see if help has been granted. Will pm later. Many thanks in advance.

At the risk of letting the facts get in the way of a good rant, Pardew is on a 3 year contract, not 5. Hope you enjoyed being at the game today Art, and that you saw, as I did, the immense progress that is being made given the corpse of a football club that was SFC post the Lowe "revolution". Destroying a football club over 12 months cannot be rectified in 10 weeks.

Why do people focus on the Pardew at Charlton, and not the Pardew of Reading and West Ham? Is it because it doesn't suit a particular agenda? Incredible really. I do hope that when posters on this board are having their performance reviews, or whatever they are called in different professions, that they won't be surprised when their bosses focus exclusively on the 20% of things they didn't do very well and totally ignore the 80% of achievements that were positive. Honestly.....Reading were relegation candidates when Pardew took over and within two seasons were in the play offs. Let's be a little patient shall we?

I like your style. :-)

Some very interesting info Sid, not least the 8 wins out of 38; that is quite astonishing, and evidence - if evidence were needed - that the players involved over the last 24 months, or those who remain, must have zero confidence when playing it home. Wouldn't be surprised if they dread it! We all need to keep calm, remain supportive and cheer the players on at every opportunity. However, as the last win I witnessed was against Sheff Utd on the last day of the season before last, a win soon would be just the tonic for all of us!! :-)
-
Duncan, Parkinson had 20 games in the CCC in which they did not, if memory serves, win a single game. They were preparing for relegation well before the end of last season and have thus hit the ground running this season. Their situation and ours are incomparable. I am not saying that I am overjoyed with what the results - not the performances - have been like to date, but for goodness sake we are trying to build from the bottom up after the shell of a club Liebherr inherited post-Lowe and post-admin. You more than anybody must be aware of this, so I can only assume that your statement / question is you playing devil's advocate.

Pedant alert but it's "everybody" not "everyone". :-) Other than that, I heartily concur; it has to be that chant!

Live Deadline Day Transfer Rumours from Daily Echo
InvictaSaint replied to ruddick's topic in The Saints
Sodje due to sign before window closes according to Tevez888 (a regular contributor) on Echo site. Gradel also being targetted according to same source, though the fee is apparently a sticking point. Not sure where info coming from, or how reliable, but here for your delight and delectation... -

Positive thinking, that's the spirit. -
Not really; just prepared to give the patient more time to recover, that's all. If you have any better suggestions, am quite happy to hear them.

Whilst you are of course entitled to your opinion John, which I respect, I am becoming increasingly irritated by the use of the "Pardew has failed to deliver" mantra which seems to be creeping in to many posters' vocabulary. In what way has he failed to deliver? If you mean he is not winning every game, then by that logic yes, he has failed; but then so has Arsene Wenger, Roy Keane, Chris Coleman and many others, all of whom I am sure you and others would have loved to have on board. Do people realise the extent of the rot in our club? Pardew has spoken about the dismal lack of infrastructure - the lack of scouts being a major one - and this will take time both to cure and to start having an effect. The players who were here last season were either not up to it, didn't want to be here or have had the confidence completely knocked out of them. That is not going to be changed overnight. It would appear that there has been a systematic failure at SFC over the last 2 years to coach players properly, to teach them their jobs properly. How do you undo that damage in a matter of weeks? You can't, simple as. Improvements have been made - everybody who went to the game yesterday is saying so and I am inclined to believe them, frankly - and will continue to be made. But we all have to be patient and expect that the corpse of a football club that was SFC pre-Liebherr is going to take some time to be revived. I will be judging Pardew at the end of this season and then again at the end of next. That, in my opinion, is reasonable. To say otherwise, to my mind, is sensationalist nonsense which demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of our predicament.
-
As someone who wasn't able to go yesterday, I am both grateful for and far more inclined to trust posts such as these which in my humble opinion hit the nail squarely on the head. It is so refreshing to read the thoughts of people who have the evidence of their eyes to make sound, reasoned judgements, and who understand that the decay of the last 5 years will not disappear in a handful of games. Progress clearly is being made - that is confirmed by the reports of all who went yesterday - and Pardew is clearly as keen as anybody to turn this around, but it will take time. We all have to be patient. There is no other option. "Long and hard is the road that leads up from the darkness into the light"

My cat is poorly (pawly?); if I bring him along could you, or one of the other vets, have a look at him? BTW, who will be manning all the surgeries if you guys are all kicking the pig skin around?

I would just like to know who proof reads the OS articles as they are invariably peppered with typos and spelling mistakes....there are two in the opening paragraph alone. Back off to pedants' corner now.... :-)

Nothing at all on Foxes Talk, the Leicester version of this board....

I hope Watford don't have toupee Raziak too much otherwise they may not buy him.

Since AP is directly quoted as saying that we are working on a couple of players coming in, I think the Professor is right. That is therefore clearly the intention; get more in before the window closes irrespective of whether the Poles leave.

Just as well for Tommy - he got absolutely lambasted after his clown-like performance against Crewe when they lost 4-0!

It's funny but I could swear Wotton chickens out of tackles.... :-)
