    Help !

    not just anybody?
  2. Leicester and Forest were both interested in Seaborne, both clubs being in a league above ours. Fonts dropped a division, and has looked class. Puncheon was lauded by many on here even before we appeared interested in him. Maybe Danns, Ward and Stock didn't come here, but how many other teams in our division have done any better than us in the window?
  3. MM, I am with you all the way, but I fear that within a few minutes you will have a selection of replies from the "should be doing much better", "Pardew wants more, why don't you?" "It simply isn't good enough for such an expensive team" and the "Don't give me that -10 points nonsense" brigade, who demand instant success and who will snipe away until you agree with them.....
  4. I think many should heed your final words Yorkie; again, spot on. It's not about accepting mediocrity or not wanting more - it's about living for the day and appreciating what you have.
  5. Actually St Marco, you may have just trumped Weston! :-)
  6. Best analysis of the game by far WS; absolutely how I saw it, and succinctly and concisely put - spot on!
  7. LSC, I am with you all the way. Some of the posters on this thread are either so pathologically masochistic that they continue to spout variants of the same negative bile in order to bait other posters - in which case, well done chaps; mission accomplished - or, more worryingly, they actually believe they are right. This is no longer about reasoned debate, it is about adopting a position of self-righteous pontificating, and hiding behind the tippety-tap of a keyboard, sniping from the gutters and having a jolly good time of it. They see little to be positive about, other than the pleasure gleaned from goading people, and their arguments are flimsy. So before I hit the ignore button - sadly the first time I have ever thought of doing so in almost 4 years on this forum - here are the FACTS of the matter: - the club almost died in the summer. We came close to extinction, according to official sources, on three occasions before Liebherr took over. Neither Norwich nor Colchester (the much vaunted "similar" clubs) was in the same position - we started the season on -10 points. No other club in League 1 did. - No scouting system was in place. Neither Norwich nor Colchester had so little infrastructure. - Pardew took over at the end of what should have been pre-season, not enough time to have any major influence on that crucial period - Player morale at the beginning of the season was almost non-existent; many of the kids had had their self-belief shattered. - Multiple purchases since August are having a positive effect - Form since Gillingham is play off standard, which, given our starting point, would be a major achievement We all want Saints to do well, to be promoted, but most of us accept this may have to wait until next season. Most of us would also accept that patience is required, though we would also say that failure to be promoted to the CCC next season would qualify as failure in both fans' and owners' eyes. Finally, most of us are - for the first time in many, many years, enjoying going to SMS again to see Saints. That in itself, and perhaps even on its own is - for most of us anyway - a reason to be cheerful. -
  8. FFS, I come on here to see if there is any more news on Danns and YET AGAIN the usual suspects are out in force hijacking every frigging thread to suit their own twisted agenda. Come on mods, sort it out.
  9. Would it be possible to see a thread evolve without the self-important posturing from the "I'm right, you're not" brigade? It doesn't seem to be about opinions and respecting differences of said opinions anymore, just about ****ing on others' views and claiming exclusive rights to the moral high ground. The Brentford reaction thread was bad enough last night with the usual suspects slagging each other off for one reason or another; all rather tedious. Whatever happened to just accepting that views differ, but as Saints fans we are all essentially pulling in the same direction? I am hoping for a sensible reply from somebody, but am prepared to be told simply not to bother reading. Hey ho, things ain't like they used to be, that's for sure....
  10. This has to be more than a coincidence surely? If he (Stock) is fit, why would he not play and not even be on the bench. I smell a new signing....
  11. Do we now have to call it "that game" in the same way we have to call you-know-what "The Scottish Play"? ;-)
  12. I work with an Exeter season-ticket holder who rates Seaborne very highly. I am therefore prepared to hold judgement. Furthermore, the comments made by OSM above indicate that there is more to the collapse of the Ward deal than meets the eye. If indeed fitness concerns remained, then NC was right to insist on certain additional safeguards within the deal. I don't feel that either NC or AP has let us down thus far, so I am prepared to trust their combined judgement. Certainly there have been no hints that AP was disappointed the deal did not go through, so one can only assume he agreed with the stop which was put on the Ward deal (if indeed it was us who stopped it) and with the Seaborne purchase.
  13. I think this is near the money. I posted something similar last night on another thread. This is the beginning of the process, not the end; Pardew has put it out there - Stock knows, Donny know, we know, all of football knows. Either they deal, or he goes for nothing in June.
  14. I think your last three words - deliberately chosen, I'm sure - are the most important. Doncaster already knew, Stock already knew, and now we Saints fans and the rest of the football world knows, that we are after Brian. The current difference in valuation is IMO irrelevant as Donny know they risk having an unsettled player for the rest of the season, if no other bids are forthcoming and one who, if memory serves, could leave for free at the end of the season (I think he is out of contract but am happy to be corrected). This is the beginning of a longish bartering process and for that reason I don't think it is a coincidence that Gillett has yet to sign for them despite their advertised interest. Pardew has put it out there now, so watch this space....
  15. I wonder when Godwin's Law will kick in tonight....
  16. Perhaps you would prefer to support Norwich then, since he makes you so happy? Nearer to Glasgow too; easier for Lambert to hear your moans when you decide to turn on him.
  17. A swan can break your arm
  18. Ahh, bless her; tell her not to worry - things will be fine... ;-)
  19. You're showing your age now Phil! ;-) Didn't they go under in the mid-90s? Mind you, they were great when they were around. I remember a brilliant flight from London to Dusseldorf - there was only me, my then girlfriend and an OAP on the flight and the very nice stewardess sat in the middle seats (it was a Fokker, if anybody knows the aircraft) where you face each other and plied us with drinks non-stop for 2 hours. Happy days. God bless you, Dan (D)Air...
  20. I see Aaron McLean (sp?) of Peterborough was left out today after putting in a transfer request. Could he be one of them?
  21. apart from all the other mentions of Reo-Coker earlier in this thread you mean?! ;-)
  22. From a fully paid up member of the "at home with kids tucked up in bed and too tired/broke/unable to get babysitter/uninterested to go out to a pub you normally get in for free but on NYE end up paying £10 to be glared at by a 12 year old bouncer before you even get a pint" club.....HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL SAINTS FANS, NEAR AND FAR!! MAY IT BE A GOOD ONE FOR YOU AND FOR SFC. COME ON YOU REDS!!
  23. True story: went with a friend to see Luton v Plymouth about 4 or 5 seasons ago - it ended 1-1 and their number 1 goalkeeper at the time, Larrieu (sp?), was recovering from injury and ended up sitting next to us - and on the way in I asked a female police officer if there was a bin anywhere for my pastie wrapper. She replied "take your pick mate, this whole place is a bin". "Not a fan of Luton I take it?" I replied cheekily. "Put it this way" she said, "I put in a transfer request a year ago, when the waiting time for a transfer out of this dump of a town was about 5 years. That's how much we love it!"
  24. 1-4 now. Chants of "Sack the board", "Milan, there's only one Milan", "Where's all our money gone" and "You're not fit to run our club" have been ringing round FP this evening, quietly ignored by the Sky broadcast team.
