If memory serves, he only signed a further one year extension to his contract at Carlisle in the summer. Not that that necessarily means anything of course. Odd though...

Afternoon all Have a huge favour to ask; I will be in Ste Foy la Grande, nr Bergerac, from July 31st to Aug 15th. Is there anybody in or around that area who will be watching / knows how/ where to watch Saints v Plymouth? I won't have Internet access whilst away but am happy to go to a bar / someone's house (if invited!) if anybody with local knowledge can point me in the right direction. All help gratefully received.

Unequivocally, fellow Man of Kent :-)

Last time I went to a friendly at Barnet, circa 1998, Mark Hughes had just signed and I saw him, Carlton Palmer and John Beresford arguing with a security guard who was refusing to let Palmer and Beresford out of the car park until they agreed to move their cars. I wonder what will happen tonight....

In which case, count me in!!

A new English national anthem... where do you stand?
InvictaSaint replied to Crab Lungs's topic in The Lounge
Am with those who feel very little when GSTQ is played. 'Abide with me' at cup finals has more of a goosebump effect. Interestingly, the lyrics of 'Jerusalem' are of course by William Blake, fervent opponent of organised religion and of the evils perpetrated by the state. 'I Vow to Thee my Country' was, musically, penned by Gustav Holst - a Brit of Latvian extraction - as part of Jupiter in the Planets suite. I would probably plump for IVTTMC if I had to, rather than that puerile subservient nonsense I generally ignore these days, but otherwise would happily see the thing disappear. Does it really have a purpose anymore, other than to stir up nationalist sentiment in a world where nations and their borders are increasingly redundant? -
I had the same problem, before I realised that you have to enter your predictions and then you will appear in the league table.

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread

That is interesting because there was somebody connected to BRFC on a link from the Saints Twitter site saying "Don't go to Saints Chris, stay with us" (or words to that effect). Rather ties in with the above, if true. -
Yes. Apparently tomorrow will be Monday.
-
Saint Lambden on the transfer thread is saying Jackson is in talks with us, and that a fee has been agreed.

Could somebody please remind me of the date by which HMRC must challenge the proposed CVA? Can't be long now, surely.....

You are either phenomenally stupid, or just horrendously arrogant. I have been teaching for 15 years and am now both an Assistant Headteacher and Head of a very large Sixth Form. I hold a First Class Honours Degree from a red brick university and regularly work 12-15 hour days. "Easy option"??! Take your head out of your backside and talk to people who actually do the job and you might actually get a handle on the pressures that are brought to bear on tens of thousands of decent hard working folk. Pressure from central government with innumerable initiatives, lack of power to deal with rude, violent and disruptive pupils, parents who treat education as though it were a customer service helpdesk. Just how is that "an easy option"? And before you wheel out the "13 weeks' paid holiday" mantra, please consult the teacher's pay and conditions handbook where you will read that teachers are actually only paid for the remaining 39 weeks of the year; holidays are in reality unpaid, and many teachers (me included) spend a great deal of time in school during those "weeks off".

Ron, lots of my Sixth Formers who go to Bath find the campus somewhat isolated, particularly given its position at the top of a long steep hill! It is a very good university, so well worth considering. Visit unistats.com for some good information, and see if you can get hold of the students' alternative prospectus. Ultimately the key issue is whether your daughter is going to be happy there; as I tell my kids, three or four years of your life is a long time to spend being unhappy.
