  1. That boat was missed the last time Chainrai was owner when he could have ordered a more circumspect player recruitment driver and given a decent young manager a chance. But he went short term for a chance to return to the PL or at least a quick sale on a side riding high in the Championship. That quick sale only brought Antonov, he was apparently the best of the bunch and didn't even give Chainrai any money for the club (repayment plan was reneged at the first time of asking). Currently they still have too large a wage bill to sustain on downward attendences, parachute payments that will only just cover the CVA scheduled to start in April, a wreck of a stadium which needs fixing and no chance of a change in owner type. It looks like the end game.
  2. I'm sure we went through the film titles a few hundred pages ago (as well as some padding). Panda's scenario makes most sense to me but will Chainrai get lucky with finding another owner which reminds me of Clint Eastwoods character Dirty Harry... Which reminds me of a certain court case starting tomorrow!
  3. So if I knew there was some cash due (parachute payment or new owner arrives) fairly soon but I had no cash in the bank to pay an outstanding bill, perhaps selling an asset or two to tie things over would be the ideal solution (eg Surman for us). But no, twenty days into the window and the best they can do is get the wage bill down a bit.
  4. This was one area where the FL were (I wonder if it has been postponed?) to tighten up insisting clubs were up to date with their tax payment otherwise a transfer embargo would be enforced. All part of getting HMRC of the clubs back in case of administration.
  5. If I was there I would be going mental. Cheering and whooping for a great gouge by the bull.
  6. The only asking price is how much is the entity worth to Chinny if he's left to selling everything. The ground is registered as worth £10m but that's top end price and what is the access like, I.e has Gaydamak got land completely surrounding it?
  7. But as the past has shown it doesn't really matter how many bidders there are, the quality of the interested parties have ranged from loan shark to fantasist. Will that change?
  8. From the beeb, with some interesting remarks: A businessman trying to buy Portsmouth has threatened to withdraw from the process by the end of the day in a dispute over the terms of the sale. Italian businessman Joseph Cala says he has yet to agree terms with the club's major creditor Portpin, controlled by former owner Balram Chainrai. Cala told BBC Radio Solent a planned conference call with the Football League today has been postponed. That call will take now take place on Monday if his bid proceeds. Meanwhile the administrator handling the sale of the club has described Cala's decision to speak publicly about his bid as both "extraordinary and disappointing." Andrew Andronikou is not expecting to finalise a deal until next week, and although earlier this week he told BBC Sport there was a preferred bidder, he now says two or three parties remain in contention. Pompey's parent company, Convers Sport Initiatives entered administration in November, forcing the Championship club to search for new owners. There is an urgency to complete a deal, as investment is needed if Portsmouth are to meet ongoing running costs. BBC South understands any purchaser would need to provide £12m as proof of funds, and assurances they could meet another £20m in repayments to former creditors, Chainrai and Alexandre Gaydamak. Only one potential buyer has gone public in the process, Italian-American Cala. Portsmouth's chief executive David Lampitt last week told BBC Radio Solent he had been left "gutted" by the club's latest financial crisis. Andronikou acted as an administrator at Fratton Park in 2010 and has been involved in a similar role with CSI.
  9. Sounds like everything went right from them in the report. Cannot see anything from their forums about player assessments and the like, only that they should swap with the first team!
  10. A distant descendant was a Sheriff of London (tax collector)... it's been downhill ever since!!!
  11. A young lad called Bamford got 5. Don't know what they are like, they could be good or Wigan could be really bad!
  12. I've heard of increase risk to hip dysplasia that can occur with tight swaddling but nothing about adverse skeletal development. I think the swaddling would have to be very tight and for prolonged periods of time along with other factors such as diet. There are cultural cases in Asia of infant girl's feet being wrapped for years to be of a certain shape.
  13. They actually posted a £6.8m profit on the last set of accounts. If they do not go up this season or next, it's game over and the bongo brothers will be penniless.
  14. Does anyone know of a freelance 'journalist' who specialises in phone hacking that can supply a phone number and conference call passcode?
  15. Maybe it's a girls thing! Yep, still there... so you must be the one I see with the huge shopping trolley of stuff going down the road from Tesco ;-)
  16. What I did (after advice from the mid wife) was to wrap them up from shoulders to toe in a cloth, nice an snug. It worked a treat.
  17. blu-tac or the more costly equalivalent non slip mat should do it.
  18. great memories of a super player. Does anyone know what he's doing now?
  19. ...and they would still need more suitcases to pack the same amount!
  20. If true - I find it hard to believe but wouldn't be surprised. So much for the words of wisdom from AA to cut the wage bill down to £10m a year after last season. Eight players receiving £32k a week - who would they be?
  21. Try this... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/quiz/2011/dec/24/mario-balotelli-manchester-city-quiz To see what was true or not.
  22. That can add a whole wealth of fun and games to the thread!
  23. none of mine are getting through :-(
  24. from Reuters this morning: Jan 12 (Reuters) - Japan striker Tadanari Lee is regarded as an 'exceptional talent' and has been granted a work permit to complete his move to English Championship (second division) leaders Southampton, despite not meeting international appearance criteria. The 26-year-old would fly to England as soon as possible to sign his contract, the 1976 FA Cup winners said on their website (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk) on Wednesday. The English Football Association ruled that Lee, who has only nine appearances for the Asian champions, was "an exceptional talent that would enhance the game in this country" clearing the way for him to be granted a work permit. Southampton have struggled for goals in recent weeks and have seen their lead cut after only one league win in six matches as they bid to return to the Premier League for the first time since relegation in 2005. Lee, born to South Korean parents, scored 15 goals in 32 matches for J.League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima last season and the diminutive, industrious striker has established himself for the national team under Italian coach Alberto Zaccheroni. He gained international attention when he scored a stunning left-foot volley match-winner in the Asian Cup final against Australia in Qatar 12 months ago to claim a record fourth regional championship for the Blue Samurai. 25. It can also imply that there will be some who do not make the grade and either drop out of football or go to lower league clubs.
