Nigel Pearson - He only plays old carthorses who are expensive!
um pahars replied to um pahars's topic in The Saints
Whether he would have been better or worse is purely hypothetical as it well never be able to be proved either way, just as it is impossible to claim or counter claim that anyone should be able to get promotion with the resources he has at hand. Those arguments can only be put down to what your own opinion and viewpoint is (although I would argue that any fcker could have done better than Jan, even with what he to hand). But there is no way that Lowe/Cowen/Wilde can say that Pearson would not be prepared to work with youngsters, that he would not be prepared to make do with short term loans and that he would have cost alot because he can only work with experienced pros, because his approach at leicester this season seems to demonstrate that he is up for all of those. -

Four of those players were there when they got relegated though. Oakley, Fryatt and Howard are probably Championship standard, Dickov is as old as me and Dyer came on a free from MK Dons (26 and played just over 100 league games in the lower divisions does not sound like someone well above that league). But what Pearson has done is augmented the good and experienced players with youngsters and loanees and put together a team that are doing very, very well. However, the main thrust of my post was not saying that Pearson was some sort of wonder manager, merely laying waste to the falsehood that Pearson would have cost too much because he would have demanded to play experienced pros and would not have played youngsters, nor would he have settled for loanees. Pearson's wages weren't too excessive and he has shown at Leicester that he is able to put together a team that hasn't cost the earth and has a very strong youth element to it. -
It certainly doesn't offend me, just find it rather starnge how you call for us to rally around someone/something, when 24 hrs earlier it was OK for those in charge to refuse to rally around the manager they appointed. There can be no doubt that the atmosphere at the Donny game was unsavoury, but after such a pathetic return from home games this season I think it was always going to blow at some point. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be somewhat naive. Additionally, I think it would be worthwhile adding that none of the vitriol was aimed at the players, who have received nothing but support for their endeavours (DMG excepted, who has had some stick). Up until then however, the support at SMS has been relagtively good. Numbers attending are another matter, but as has been discussed at great length elsewhere, the key in driving numbers up is a successful team under a successful manager and board. Football is all about having and espousing opinions, always has been and always will be. You could call the moans about Poortvliet's inadequacies, swipes, I would say they were people calling it right (and being realistic & honest, and certainly not negative as some portrayed). And as for suggesting that swiping will bring us salvation, then I am afraid it is you who are taking such a huge leap and making things up that don't exist. No one, and certainly not myself, has ever suggested that moaning on here will have anything more than a minimal effect on the Club, good or bad. I prefer direct and positive action as opposed to words when it is required. I do not take slices off of the Club, I merely assess and judge those who are temporary custodians of our Club. Was it counter productive to remove Poortvliet? Why did we not maintain the staus quo with regards the manager and rally around him for the next 3 months? I would suggest he was pushed because those in power finally realised he was underperforming and that it would be more beneficial to replace him than persist with him. Why is it counter productive to hold an equivalent view with regards the current CEO?

I'm sure Window Cleaner won't call it a fundamental error and will let you roundings ride;) I was all for getting behind Poortvliet. Every game I have been to this season I have got behind the team and supported Poortvliet. Hell, even Jan himself has said this before the Doncaster match "The fans have supported us very well this season and it's up to us now to give them something back. But now Poortvliet has been sacked, so we must have other options on that front, so why not hope we have options on the CEO front? Lowe certainly didn't go with your concept of sticking with what you've got regarding the manager and supporting him for three months, so please don't have a pop at those with a similar train of thought regarding the CEO.

No we're not. HTH

I couldn't be bothered to look up his age, surely he must knocking 40!!!!!! I have no idea how that Leicester squad has been put together, but I'm guessing it didn't cost much and I certainly don't remember many (if any) big signings. That team was not far off the one that won at Yeovil (which I think was maybe even younger) and it shows that Pearson is moulding together a successful team blending youth, loanees with a couple of wise old heads. We on the other hand................................. I don't long to be a Leicester fan, I don't long to swap places with them, but on a day when our Club has been pssed over I thought I would highlight the poor decision making skills of our CEO. -
On the day when the dust is settling on the farce that is Southampton FC, Pearson delivers another win and sits proudly at the top of the table. Many could not believe he was ousted to make way for Poortvliet, ousted for a failure who left this team in the relegation zone likely to swap places with Leicester come May. But of course he wouldn't have wanted to play youngsters, nor would he have wanted to use loan players:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Here's his side today: 4 loanees 11 of the squad are 23 or under (7 are 20 or under) Martin - 23 (on loan) Gilbert - 21 (on loan) Morrison - 20 Hobbs - 20 (on loan) Berner - 31 Oakley - 31 Andy King - 20 Cleverley - 19 (on loan) Dyer - 26 Fryatt - 22 Howard - 32 Subs: Pentney - No age or data (but young) Chambers - 18 Gradel - 21 Mattock - 18 Dickov - 134 And we can six months of fcking Poortvliet and now Wotte. Lowe's decision making ability has gone to fck.
-
I understand that Wotte took over at Den Bosch in the middle of the season when they were in the top division. By the end of that season, they were relegated and they had gone into administration. Just hope lightning doesn't strike twice!!!!!!!!! (I find it rather ironic that Jan's temporary role in stepping in for Vloet and earning promotion was bigged up on the OS, yet there is absolutely no mention of Wotte's role in relegation and administration the season prior).
-
Absolutely. As you say, earlier in the week he was up for giving 200%, by the end of it it was down to 0%. Lowe has had a quiet word in his ear telling him that the best thing to do would be for him to go gracefully.

OS Confirmed Michael Svennson - New Assistant Coach

What's wrong with you more like:rolleyes: I just wish that for once you would look at things in a rational manager. No one is using Killer to attack the Club. People are merely suggesting that we should appoint the best person (within our constraints) that we can, regardless of any prior affiliation with the Club. Or is that too difficult for you to understand?:smt037 -
Sort of, but only in that Lowe had no other real choice but to concedce that Poortvliet was out of his depth. I don't think Wilde has started to make a stand, merely Cowen and Wilde just said this isn't working. However, Lowe's overall strategy remains in place and he is still persevering with this mad experiment. He is still the one in control, and for some reason Wilde is like a rabbit in the headlights fazed by Lowe. Lowe was intrinsically linked to Poortvliet, his name was all over it and his future should have rested on it's success or failure. But instead it goes tts up and Wilde just sits back and says, "Go on, have another go Rupert". Unbelievable and as much as I question Lowe's judgement and ability on appointing and retaining managers, you have ot question Wilde's tacit support of him. IMHO the only thing holding Wilde back is: a) He does not want Crouch back in any shape or form, b) He does not have the balls to make these decisions, instead he is happy to play second fiddle to someone else, c) He doesn't want Lowe to shout at him. The time has come for Wilde as the largest shareholder in this Club to assert his rights and do what is right for this Club. And that means burying the hatchet with whoever and accept that this "revolutionary coaching set up" is doomed to failure. Then he meeds to lead the search for a new manager and a new CEO/Chairman. I don't want Crouch in day to day charge of this Club, but that is absolutely no excuse for continuing with Lowe or Wotte. And exactly the same can be said for Mike Richards and Guy Askham. If these three do not have the balls or the nous to call for a change, then they are as guilty as Lowe and Cowen for the demise, and possible death of this Club. These three can change the future of this Club, or they can stay silent and be complicit in it's demise.
-
I don't think so. I think Lowe conceded Poortvliet had to go (I think he was given the choice to resign or be sacked) as he couldn't argue with our league position, but the appointment of Wotte has Lowe written all over it again. Wilde, probably aided by Cowen, got Lowe to see sense with regards Poortvliet, but he soon got his way again employing Wotte and continuing with this mad experiment. Whatever Wilde might say, Lowe is still pulling the strings and his decisions are leading us into oblivion. It's time for Wilde to say enough is enough, force the issue and even if he doesn't want Crouch in day to day control then he has to lead the appointment of a new manager and a new CEO.
-
IMHO pushed. Or more to the point, he jumped before he was pushed. Everything I have heard points to the fact that a couple of the board had lost faith in him.
-
No. 2 He resigned as Technical Director of Feyenoord in 2005 not 2006.
-
Omission No. 1????? His time at Den Bosch circa 2000 ending in relegation and financial meltdown. Saint Martini, maybe you can throw some light on Wotte's involvement just prior to when Vloet/Poortvliet came in.

Demonstration for Swansea game- Time and place!!
um pahars replied to scott_saints's topic in The Saints
I personally think a protest like this, with a few faces (eg Mark Dennis) and something catchy (and cheesey) like the coffin will catch the media's eye. Having worked in the media for 10+ years I can assure you that this will be the type of photo or insert they would love. I also think spontaneous protests inside the ground, in the corporates, outside, coupled with other media exposure and shareholders also working together will help force the issue. After that you've got boycotts, civil disobediance (all legal of course), non renewal of season tickets, commercial and corporate boycotts etc etc which will all help. I think all will blend into one another with any popular, successful or exposed event leading to a snowball effect. Rather than snipe at one protest which doesn't take your fancy (which actually plays into Lowe's hand asd he is a master of divide and rule and exposing any differences of opinion or weaknesses), you'd be better off channeling your energy into a protest you feel comfortable with. Even if only 200 turn up to this one, it will still get some press coverage and will all add to a bigger picture. -
Next signing Robbie Fowler?????
-
And I reckon the same guy who put up Jan's fcking dodgy CV has put Wotte's up as conveniently they have missed out his stint at Den Bosch that resulted in their relegation and going into financial turmoil. I wonder why that would be???? After Jan's CV thread when he first came on the scene, maybe someone should do some digging to come up with the real one for Wotte.
-
Doh:rolleyes::rolleyes::smt104 And as today's events clearly show, the manager has a major impact on what goes on on the pitch. And the appointment and retention of the manager is down to the CEO and the Board.
-
Ask them: a) If they know anything about his alledged antics at Palace?? b) If he sometimes seems irational, edgey, sweaty and suffers from mood swings??
-
Absofckinglutely!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was only good enough to be Jan's deputy and hold the reigns of the ressies and now we have to accept him as our fcking manager. HELLLLLOOOOOO (PS You know the OS made a big deal over Jan leading Den Bosch to promotion, well have you got any idea who was in charge when they got relegated and went into financial turmoil???????? None other than our new manager)
-
1. It shows that the first major decision that Lowe had to take was a terrible failure. 2. It has been compounded by the ridiulous rearranging of the deckchairs leaving Wotte in place. If anything it gives more credence to demonstrations and whatever is necessary to ensure a sensible decision making process returns to SMS.
-
Always came across as a nice bloke, honest, straightforward and approachable. Sadly, appointed way above his ability, experience and knowledge. Hope he gets a job back in Holland at a level more suitable for him.
-
Are they pictures of Peru or Colombia?????
-
I had a feeling this would happen. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8585 And I stick by my call that this is the worst of all decisions. A reshuffle that will solve nothing. The first major decision that Lowe undertook has proved to be a major fck up. We now must see out his second major decision, but I'm not holding my breath. This man's decision making skills have gone to fck. How the hell can Wilde carry on supporting such a failure???
